Giants trading for Mike Evans would be the worst outcome of that situation in Tampa.

They probably are the front runner. Could see KC going in to try to win another if their young guys don’t step up by the deadline. Toney, moore and rice/Ross are gonna be solid cause of mahomes but to win another title wouldn’t be shocked if they make a splash on someone like Evans. Also think New England is a sleeper team in it. That said don’t know Evans would want to go there nor re-sign there after the year.

I think it was obvious they very much wanted Zetner to win and he failed miserably while Siposs really didn't impress he just wasn't as bad. Again I think the Eagles are the best team in the nfc.  Special teams is just very likely to be a problem. Of course anything can happen still.

Not obvious at all.  They wanted the best player to win the competition.  Unlike you, the hadn’t prejudged the situation/competition.

Not only is there a better punter sitting out there that they haven't showed any interest in, he's also probably the best punter in the league.  Any moral reason doesn't hold up to the fact that they brought Sills back and were giving him some first team reps before they ultimately cut him.

I'm assuming you're referring to Araiza. If he were truly "the best punter in the league", why oh why wasn't he the first (or second) punter drafted the year he came out?

One player has choked a few times in critical situations. I strongly suspect they don’t want him to be around for another playoffs. They just are struggling to find a decent alternative

Someone inform a few posters who have me blocked that Penix is a player and I am not being homophobic. Thanks

I know it's one game but Uiagalelei looked like a totally different QB. Again one game

I'll take him day 3 if his combine numbers are good.  6'4 250.  He might go much higher.

The Giants have our number this season. They tried last year but crashed and burned. I think beating us is all they've been thinking about.

Having our number and obsessing about us just makes them creepy stalkers.

We'll handle them like the alphas we are.

Re-watching the end of that Eagles-Chiefs game and it's disgusting how they threw the flag on Bradberry on 3rd and 8.

They aren’t struggling at all.  They are simply looking at the dollars and cents they are going to have to expend with any of the alternatives, and then weighing those costs against the value they perceive they are getting in each alternative.

Have you performed that kind of economic Return On Investment analysis for any (let alone all) of the alternatives.  You are letting your feelings overwhelm your brain.  I’m not sure why this is such a passionate issue for you.  Siposs kicked 45 punts last year and only one of them was a dud … ant it was only a dud because the coverage team lost contain.  That is a 97.7% success rate.  Jake Elliott attempted 23 field goals and missed 3 of them.  That is an 87% success rate.  Why aren’t you calling for Elliot’s head as well as Siposs’?  Elliott also attempted 53 extra points and made 51.  That is a 96% success rate … also worse than Siposs.  Do you see your absence of logic?

The worst outcome of a situation in Tampa would be if I lived there already and you decided to move there.  That would be much worse than Mike Evans going to the Giants.

Happy Labor Day!  Here Is you morning Predictions Update.

I do believe that.

The Eagles have no irrational attachment to Siposs.  They brought in Zentner to compete in training camp and likely wanted him to win the job.  He wasn’t good enough.  They’ve followed that up by bringing in other FA punters for tryouts.  If any of them perform better than Siposs, they’ll get the job.

This talking point of a "fail” if the Eagles don’t send Siposs packing is strange.  No one should want him replaced by another punter who isn’t as good, just for the sake of change.

Also worth noting — just because you can punt the ball farther does not necessarily make you a better punter

Agree, they are doing there best with the options out there

However, I will say the area they failed was giving a contract extension to ST coach Michael Clay. Howie dropped the ball on that one.

Because most folks were astounded by his long punts, which in the NFL would outkick the coverage.  Non professional scouts, reliant on YouTube highlights don’t necessarily pay attention to his slower mechanics, that he kicks from a lower point, thus getting the distance but also with a tendency to occasional shanks and line drives, that his contact point also hinders the English and directionality of his punts.  I imagine it was researched by some teams whether he takes to training and how hard it is to fix mechanics. (If fixing mechanics was easy, we wouldn’t have hundreds of swing fixing tools for amateur golfers).

From two draft sites (the latter Pauline):
Weaknesses

  • Coffin corner needs work;
  • Drop placement in shorter punting positions needs work;
  • Needs to tighten up on the punter equivalent of a gunslinger mentality, focus on touch and timing.

Negatives: Takes a while to get the ball off his foot.

We saw similar issues with Zentner this summer.

Add to that Araiza is accused of giving alcohol to a minor and admits to having sex with her.  Consent as a question is difficult to prove in criminal cases especially when intoxication is a factor, hence no,current charge.  But it is very ugly that the same night, she was allegedly passed out drunk and gang raped.  Let’s face it, does that float well with an NFL team having to explain if Araiza loses his civil trial.  I am sure the NFL has done a character evaluation of him.

Folks may contrast that with Sills, who actually was charged but not convicted in a case heavily factored on proving a lack of consent.  Not exactly the same.   But Lurie, who is a champion of rehabilitation but also very mindful of Me Too probably has no interest in such scrutiny and potential criticism again having just faced that to a lesser degree with Sills. (Don’t bet that wasn’t a factor in the Opeta v Sills discussion on which IOLs to waive or keep on the 53).

Before Utebird goes off on a multi page tangent about consent, I think we all recognize the anguish and difficulty in these cases.  Whole issues of implied consent/non consent, regret, force, interpretation of actions or lack of actions, and perceptions by each party after the fact all play a factor.  The burden of proof is necessarily hard in criminal cases.  But having been found not guilty of a crime or not chargeable of a crime does not remove all tarnish of the accusation either.  That tarnish may not be something NFL teams want to deal with considering all the allegations from that night.

Then again, tomorrow Howie could sign Araiza and my speculation be all wrong.
