I'm a Blue Jays fan. I have no horse in this Braves/Phillies argument.

Baseball is not like other sports. It's a large sample size game. That's why the season is so long. Once you get to the playoffs in a best of 3, or best of 5 situation, being better doesn't matter as much as just getting the big outs/hits when it matters. You could see that last night. The teams with the 5 best records in baseball are all out of the playoffs and 4 of them didn't win a single playoff game.

I know it's worked out for the Phillies, but the current playoff format eliminating all of the top teams is not good for the game and must change.  Some options: make NLDS a best of 7 or possibly shorten (or eliminate) the break between the WS round and the DS round.  With the current format, it's almost as if it's irrelevant how well you do in the regular season, as long as you have ~85+ wins, you're in.  In fact, you're better off as a wild card team because you have a little bit of a warm up to get hot before the DS round.

All that said, Phils are a better team and it's not close.  Phils pitching has been outstanding, bullpen has been outstanding, bats have been good, and they remain aggressive on the bases.  I think the DBacks put up some runs here, and this will be power vs. power, but Phils in 5.

I wonder how high a pick is realistic though really, looking at it his first three years (157, 2295, 9TD's) aren't as good as Jordan Matthews (225, 2672, 19TD's) and we had to send a 3rd round pick with Matthews to Buffalo for Ronald Darby, so how high a pick is Jeudy worth?

Really depends on the market but if there’s at least 3-4 teams looking for a WR (I think there are) then it will likely be closer to a earlier/ mid round pick Vs a late pick, imo.

And Jordan Matthews was a 2nd round pick initially, who suffered an injury and wasn’t quite the same player when traded - and he played on a good offense.    Jeudy’s situation is different, could be considered more a victim of his circumstances (below average team, etc)

Still hate them but at least they take accountability

In Eagles news.

Surprised they went outside of the city.

Is Bo Wolf unemployed now or has he already transferred to some other online whatever (e.g., the Ringer, etc.)?

He went to PHLY_Sports with Zach Berman.

Probably still annoying there.

Casty after Harper would've probably been good. Bohm and Stott were basically black holes.  Agree with the rest of what you said as well.  Dude gets really lucky until he doesn't.  Then there's Schwarber who was basically a free out every single time we started off an inning with the top of the order.

Stott at least works counts. Bohm and Schwarbs...not so much.

Jamming by Bob Marley.  It's a shame it's not Cashmire like the GOAT use to walk up to.

Kashmir for Chase was phantastic. My favorite though was probably "No More Sorrow" or "This is for the Soldiers" when Lidge would make his way out.

Yeah... but the "E" is gone, which is the point of it facing to the left.

Yea, her Eagles one was bad. Her Pat Patriot one was hands down better than anything New England has.

Phillies should win without too much trouble. Vibes + Arizona feasted on awful pitching.

This part i half agree and half disagree. Their series with the brewers they faced peralta and burnes. Both of those guys are really good pitches. Heck burnes won a cy young. Also the brewers had one of the best bullpens in baseball the dodgers series that’s accurate. Dodgers rotation was decimated by injuries and urias being a POS and out of baseball now. And their bullpen was good but really was less their bullpen than their starters imploded and broke open the game.

Our pitching really stepped up to the plate this series - from the starters to the bullpen.

That said, keeping the Braves run total to a low that they haven’t done all year is also due to Topper’s managing matchups, bullpen use etc.

People criticize him for what seem to be "head scratching” moves at times but in reality, they’re not.  He knows what he’s doing when it comes to analytics and matchups and this past series basically proves that.

No, when it happens over and over again and produces win after win, (especially in the post season)  it’s no longer luck, it’s skill.  Give credit when credit is due.

You are giving him way too much credit for leaving people in longer than he should. It is luck they survived some of them and it absolutely cost them the game Monday. The same thing happened last year against Houston except they made the Phillies pay for it.

I'm glad someone isn't using it as an excuse. Weren't the braves doing "simulated games" to combat the break? I thought I read that somewhere, so what did those "games" consist of?

I remember watching those Arkansa Razorbacks and I wanted the granddaddy of Freakbeasts Matt Jones

That entire backfield made anyone playing NCAA/Madden want them on your real team. Matt Jones, Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis and Darren McFadden.  You had the GD Freakbeast in Matt Jones. World class speed with Jones. A bruising tank of  RB/FB in Hillis. And what many considered the next can't miss RB in McFadden.

What’s gonna eventually happen is mlb wants to make more money. They are gonna add another two playoff teams so 8 teams in both leagues. Makes for more revenue having 1 vs. 8 and 2 vs. 7 even if it waters down the regular season more. Doesn’t matter in the end it’s about capitalizing on money and it solves the issue of the layoff. However you know some one seed will get upset and **** they had to play in the wild card after it happens

Line is up to Bills -14.5.  A prime time thriller in the making on Sunday Night.

They were practicing their homerun trot dancing.  They forgot about the part where they have to hit a homerun to be able to dance around the bases.

So 16 out of 30 teams make the playoffs?

Looks like all 3 probably miss this game

Strange feeling that the possible loss of a DT lessens my excitement for the game. I've been on the edge of my seat watching the DL play this year because of Carter. Rather keep him healthy for the long haul though. Cox appears to be good to go, if not still hungover on Sunday. Would like to see what Ojomo can do.

Yeah... I don't agree.  I think the teams with better records just didn't perform.  The O's were a surprise team to win the division.  The fact that a really young team like that didn't show up in the playoffs isn't a new phenomenon.   Phillies won the division in '07, but as a young team, they got bounced by the WC Rockies.  The issue wasn't the format, the issue was the way the team responded.

The format isn't eliminating the top teams, the top teams are eliminating themselves.   Part of that is how they approached the end of the season as much as it is the playoff time line.   The Braves clinched the division on Sept 13th.  They clinched the top seed almost a week before the end of the season...  but they looked like a team that had a hangover after they clinched the division.  Their mentality was wrong, and that falls on their leadership and their coaching staff.   It's really hard to flip a switch and get the intensity back, so you need to maintain that intensity.  Acuna was a complete non-factor.  The playoff format isn't to blame for that.  Even when he got on base, he didn't steal a bag once.  They played tight the entire series and it showed up in the outcomes.

Yup. The post game show is really off. Frankly not very good. Jamie and Bo don’t have very good chemistry. Frankly feels like Bo just invited a casual fan to come on there and talk.

Damn no Slay or Carter for the game then.  Hopefully Cox is good to go and raise injury that Carter has suffered in practice isn't a high ankle sprain or anything that will keep him out awhile.  He will be needed for the Dolphins.

Strider is coming out and saying that basically they were not prepared for the playoffs.  They got too full of themselves and took it easy.  Can't blame the format on that.

Yeah that would be my guess. Similar to nhl and nba (before the play in tournament— but like mlb maximize revenue). The mlb wants to maximize revenue. Best way to maximize it is adding two more teams from each. Espn will pay for at least 8 more playoff games on their network and up to 12 if they go to a game 3 in each series.
