Strider is coming out and saying that basically they were not prepared for the playoffs.  They got too full of themselves and took it easy.  Can't blame the format on that.

With more teams making the playoffs and shorter series - it will be about the hot teams rather than the best teams by record.

Yup. The post game show is really off. Frankly not very good. Jamie and Bo don’t have very good chemistry. Frankly feels like Bo just invited a casual fan to come on there and talk.

Yea, the chemistry is weird on the post game shows. It's much more "sports talk radio" ish. I do think Bo has been reigned in a lot. Since these shows have set in and out times he doesn't have the opportunity to go way off track like he used to.

You are giving him way too much credit for leaving people in longer than he should. It is luck they survived some of them and it absolutely cost them the game Monday. The same thing happened last year against Houston except they made the Phillies pay for it.

You’re taking the one or two times his decisions "could have” cost us and not looking at how his decisions (the other 90% of them) led this team to the World Series last year; to 92 wins, wild card birth/series win, NLDS win against the best team (regular season) in baseball and to another NLCS  - this year.

They just shut down the best offensive team in baseball.   That’s not "luck”.

Baseball analytics are based on long term probabilities/matchups, etc. Nothing is 100%, especially in baseball but he’s done a masterful job of getting everything he can out of this team and putting them in a position to succeed over the past two seasons.

His resume speaks for itself.

I know it's worked out for the Phillies, but the current playoff format eliminating all of the top teams is not good for the game and must change.  Some options: make NLDS a best of 7 or possibly shorten (or eliminate) the break between the WS round and the DS round.  With the current format, it's almost as if it's irrelevant how well you do in the regular season, as long as you have ~85+ wins, you're in.  In fact, you're better off as a wild card team because you have a little bit of a warm up to get hot before the DS round.

All that said, Phils are a better team and it's not close.  Phils pitching has been outstanding, bullpen has been outstanding, bats have been good, and they remain aggressive on the bases.  I think the DBacks put up some runs here, and this will be power vs. power, but Phils in 5.

Anyone here watch the game on TBS Youtube TV? It seems the feed was WAY behind. And I mean 30 seconds to a minute.

The goal is to win the Super Bowl. Carter and Slay are musts to make that happen. Rest them.

We didn't push Cox last week. We've been patient with Sydney Brown.

We're good enough to beat the Jets with Cox-Milton-Davis inside and Jobe-Bradberry-Roby. Just bracket Wilson over the top.

Yeah that would be my guess. Similar to nhl and nba (before the play in tournament— but like mlb maximize revenue). The mlb wants to maximize revenue. Best way to maximize it is adding two more teams from each. Espn will pay for at least 8 more playoff games on their network and up to 12 if they go to a game 3 in each series.

Baseball has the benefit that expanded playoffs won’t really cheapen the regular season at least to me… as I never feel like I’m watching an important game, just an opportunity to get outside.

yeah, no I am not.  When WVU scored, I was deflated, then boom.  I was thinking let’s be like the Eagles to close out the half last Sunday and Boom.  Might have been a little holding but I would say the same for both teams.

I've noticed a delay with football (sunday ticket and regular channels) to the point that I turn my ringer off so I don't get spoilers courtesy of the ESPN Fantasy app.

That happened to me and I got a text from a friend "PHILS!!!" I was like wtf man. Like 30+ seconds before the final out.

I'm glad someone isn't using it as an excuse. Weren't the braves doing "simulated games" to combat the break? I thought I read that somewhere, so what did those "games" consist of?

It's hard in a simulated game to replicate a true playoff level of intensity.   BUT... they waltzed through the last 3 weeks of the regular season.  That is where their edge was lost.  They went 8-8 in the last 16 games of the season.  There is resting guys... and then there is guys taking a vacation mentally.   Phillies took that last week and were still busting it in games, as they got some guys some opportunities to play... AND while the starters were on the bench, they were still locked into the games.  They didn't veg out, they were there to cheer on their teammates and help them lock in for the playoff run.  It isn't about the layoff before the NLDS, its more about their mentality in the games leading up to the layoff.  They pretended like they'd accomplished something.

To be honest, when I listen to it, the whole thing feels off. It was more natural when they were with the athletic. I get Bo went off the rails but feels very forced and just not the same. Maybe cause it’s new and i am readjusting. Tbh neubeck and bodner have great chemistry.

I’m not sure having 16 playoff teams after a 162 game season makes sense.  There could potentially be sub .500 teams making the post season after 162 games.   Nah, I’ll pass.

If they want to increase revenue maybe add a one game playoff between the worst wild card team and the bubble team for the last wild card spot.   Or increase the NLDS to 7 games, etc

What’s gonna eventually happen is mlb wants to make more money. They are gonna add another two playoff teams so 8 teams in both leagues. Makes for more revenue having 1 vs. 8 and 2 vs. 7 even if it waters down the regular season more. Doesn’t matter in the end it’s about capitalizing on money and it solves the issue of the layoff. However you know some one seed will get upset and **** they had to play in the wild card after it happens

Adding two teams, eliminates the 'layoff' for the top seeds and they have to play in that first round.  But, yes, when a 1 seed drops a series to the 8 seed, there will be crying.  But, if you want to be the best, you need to prove it.  The 162 just means you get to host the series.  But, if you can't win the series in your house... then you don't deserve to be crowned.

The Eagles should be good enough on defense to beat the Jets with me and 10 of my coworkers out there.  I do remember Zach Wilson leading 3 TD drives against the Eagles in 2021 where Gardner Minshew had to match him, though.

There was a lot of holding on the hail mary but whatever, Neal Brown sucks and I want him gone.  WVU had no business losing that game, but thats my life now

The best thing Bo and Zach did was the Swooper Soarcasting game. It was really the main reason I would keep tabs on the pod during the season. Every week they'd have a game where they each have several items they think could happen within the game and they'd bid on them with a set number of points each week and then after every game they'd see who got the most right and then crown a winner at the end of the season. But for it to work it requires 3 people, which they no longer have. Oddly, they can't seem to just bring someone else in from the PHLY team to make it work. But instead they're doing this "Goose Wisely" game, which isn't nearly as good.

I wonder how mandated it is. It portrays this loose and laid back atmosphere, but on the other hand, the time slots feel very structured. Which is odd for a web based format. It's not TV, they should have way fewer time constraints. But they have time constraints on every show. And if they wanted to make Swooper work they could just pull Jamie or Bodner or Kyle or someone else from there to add another person to the mix, but I'm guessing if they could they'd have done it by now.

Really depends on the market but if there’s at least 3-4 teams looking for a WR (I think there are) then it will likely be closer to a earlier/ mid round pick Vs a late pick, imo.

And Jordan Matthews was a 2nd round pick initially, who suffered an injury and wasn’t quite the same player when traded - and he played on a good offense.    Jeudy’s situation is different, could be considered more a victim of his circumstances (below average team, etc)

Jeudy's pick is meaningless if he isn't performing better than a second round pick, in terms of circumstances Matthews played his first two seasons with a revolving door of Foles, Barkley, Buttfumble and Bradford at QB and put up better numbers than Jeudy.

Doesn’t for me either but that’s what you are gonna hear from baseball purists. I have no issue with it being 8 teams in each league. It makes more money for baseball and it stops this BS excuse about layoffs.

So 16 out of 30 teams make the playoffs?

Yup... that's in the very near future.   More playoff teams = more playoff games = means more money.   That will make the trade deadline very different moving forward as the number of sellers will be greatly diminished.   The Cubs were thought to be sellers, but made a small move forward right before the deadline and they didn't sell.   The Angels were thought to be sellers, but decided not to sell Ohtani, and became buyers instead.

Looks like only 6 teams might be legit 'sellers' at the trade deadline when that happens.  But, what that really means is teams need to find ways to develop their own talent and add pieces from the minors (like Rojas and Kerkering).  That's hard to do, but that's going to be where teams can find help late, versus adding a veteran who can make a difference for the run, unless you vastly overpay.   Either way, it will make the farm systems super important.

yeah.  YouTube tv is always at least 30 seconds behind.  I've usually got to turn my phone off so I don't get spoilers from folks.  I learned that during the superbowl, it was terrible.

The problem is, they will never decrease the amount of games they want to play in the regular season because they want to maximize revenue. I will bet they go to an 8 teams and then also with the LDS make it a best of 7. Because that way you’re going to get more even money from the wild card round from ESPN. then you were going to get even more money because TBS and fox as there is a potential for 2 extra games in each of those LDS series. I think all that is eventually coming anyways. It’s more a matter of when.

Strange feeling that the possible loss of a DT lessens my excitement for the game. I've been on the edge of my seat watching the DL play this year because of Carter. Rather keep him healthy for the long haul though. Cox appears to be good to go, if not still hungover on Sunday. Would like to see what Ojomo can do.

Yeah… if he can party in the Phillies locker room, he can play on Sunday 😂
