Worth noting.

If anyone watches the "Unscripted" series, Avonte Maddox was on the last one and confirmed he was done for this season.

I think the fact that Sirianni has Maddox's number on his visor -- and has no other injured player's number as well -- should have signaled to anyone that he's done for the year.

I've never had any attachment to the tush push at all, because I've always believed the play should be stopped as soon as there is any aid to the runner's forward progress.  A runner is supposed to get the maximum yardage from his own momentum and, when his forward progress is stopped, the play should be whistled down.  The tush push on its own is not dangerous; no one is going to get injured because Gainwell or Brown or Goedert is pushing Hurts.  To me, it's where the OL gets involved in moving a pile forward that can lead to injuries.  Take that out of the game first, then worry about any aid from players in the backfield on a QB sneak.

I would be against banning the tush push while leaving those other plays as legal.  What Pereira says about trying to figure out who's pushing who is totally irrelevant; any aid given to the ball carrier should be whistled down and the play stopped at that point of forward progress gained by the runner.  Without the tush push, the Eagles would still be the best short yardage team in the NFL because of Hurts, Kelce, and Dickerson.

I like the play.  It makes the game more exciting.  The reality is that if it was an overly simple play or just a matter of pushing the QB, every team would be able to execute the play.  The Eagles are the only team that has the success that they have with the play because they execute it so well and have the talent to gain leverage.  This isn't a forever play for the Eagles. It's a unique time in the history of the team that they have this competitive advantage.  Part of the excitement in seeing it is knowing there will be a time when they can't execute like they have been.

This rule was changed once already back in 05 or 06. The rule basically changed from aiding the ball carrier by either pushing or pulling, to just pulling. The reason for the change was that pushing was much harder to consistently call, like a few other NFL rules that a lot of us scream at the tv about weekly, PI being the most prominent.

"What the league found was so difficult was you never were sure who was pushing who,” said Mike Pereira, the former NFL director of officials who became the rules analyst for Fox. "So you’re not necessarily pushing the runner. You could be pushing someone else that’s in contact with the runner. So it became really too difficult to officiate. Therefore, we just said, ‘OK, it’s legal to push.’ ”

So, pushing to block vs pushing to advance the ball carrier are two different things altogether. I’m not advocating for a change to the rule, just giving some background on the rule. The game is the game and you find ways to have the rules work to your advantage. Kind of like golf, if you know the rules you can actually lower your score by applying them correctly.

Who knew refs not being sure of a what they were seeing was a reason to get rid of a rule.  Maybe they should do this with all of the other things they get wrong or are not sure of and are too difficult to officiate.

I'd agree but it also kept coming up in here for some reason

There were a few people predicting/hoping he could come back for playoffs

My belief is that the Eagles execution of the play would be just as effective if the "pushers” pushed the two Guards rather than pushing Hurts.  It would be hard for the NFL to outlaw that variation.

Player safety is about 14th on the list of actual NFL priorities... but its first on their list of talking points.

1 - $$$
2 - Taking the NFL to Europe to get more $$$.
3 - Adding fun little gimmicks to games on Nickelodeon to try to get more $$$.
4 - Finding new and exciting ways to over-officiate the game and cause more pauses, allowing for more commercial breaks to make more $$$.
5 - Gimmick up alternate uniforms and 'color rush' to get people gullible enough to buy these merchandise articles to get more $$$.
6 - Expand into Mexico for more $$$.
7 - Put more and more content behind a pay wall like NFL+ to make more $$$.
8 - Discuss banning a specific play amongst the competition committee because one team is too successful with it.  (Where's the money here?  Oh, that's why it hasn't actually been banned.)
9 - Play doubleheaders on MNF to generate more eyeballs and give that network more games to sell the MNF product for more $$$.
10 - Expand the playoffs to generate more $$$.
11 - Partner with Gambling companies to make more $$$, while suspending players who participate with a league sponsor.
12 - Promote Olympic flag football to grow an international fan base and... make more $$$.
13 - Cross their Ts and dot their Is to cover their tracks against potential lawsuits regarding player safety.
14 - Actually make the game safer for players.

Good point and good list.

This. You can't ban the play because a team is successful at it. At the end of the day the offense's job is to gain yards, the defense's job is to prevent yards by the offense (within the rules of the game). It's legal to push since the rule was changed in '06 like I said earlier. You either find a way to defend it or suffer the consequence, don't placate those opposed to it because they can't defend the legal play.

Yep. Reminds me of a story Lou Holtz told about an exchange with Bobby Bowden:

"There were three times I had a problem at midfield (in my career)," Holtz told May. "Usually you try to congratulate (the other coach) and say something positive about the other team. However I was a young coach and William & Mary and we were playing up in Morgantown (at WVU). I was raised in West Virginia and all my friends were there. It was a close ball game later ... and then they end up beating us by at least 24. I got to coach Bobby Bowden after and said 'Bobby, we're friends! Why did you run the score up?' And he told me 'it's your obligation to hold the score down. If you don't like this score then recruit better and coach better. But don't ask me to lower my level of performance to yours.'"

Back in 2009 and 2010 when I still had season tickets, I met a bunch at two different EMB tail gates. Many either don't post on the boards anymore, or post in WU. And sadly, one of them passed almost 2 years ago.

FastFreddie and I started working for the same company at the same time, and he got me to sign up here in 2001. I guess that counts.

Was on a project in Denver in 2004 and hung with Gyl1gin on game days.  Then again in 2006.  Then I moved to Denver and was there from 2009-2016, so game days again until Schmoopie moved in then it was only here and there, but hung out in the city instead like adults. Still a friend to this day even though we both moved out of Denver around the same time.

Was on a project in Omaha in 2005 and hung with Omahaphillyfan on Sundays

Was on a project in Atlanta in 2005 and hung with Moloko during the week

Was at training camp in 2006 with a ton of folks here.  BigEd, Phreak, Rome, PhillyFanFromBirth, AP, Dag, DiPros, Corey... sure I'm forgetting a bunch.

Was at an eagles tailgate in San Fran in 2006 with quite a few folks.  LTD (RIP), California Eagle (RIP), Reebles, and WestCoastO.  Then during the game @brkmsn tapped me on the shoulder.  Still don't know how he found me.

Was at a tailgate in 2007 prior to the Titans game that McNabb shredded his knee.  Met DieHard, Stingo, NotPlainJane, DieHard, plus a few people that left here for CF.

I'm sure tthere's more but those were the ones that jumped out to me right now.

very inside look at the Goedert injury, especially towards the end of the video

I met @mattwill and @FranklinFldEBUpper at lunch, separately and together, the former, several times; Swami Stubbs I met at his book signing; he no longer posts here.

Damn, even has nerve damage.

So outside of the pro shop or Fanatics where is the best place to find a kelly green hoodie? They don't have a ton of choices and all I can find are shady looking sites.

I met @FranklinFldEBUpper at the opener in 2017 against the Giants.  Neither of us knew what was in store for us that game and for the rest of the season.
