Lurie sold part of the team to get liquid.  He allows Howie to do these contracts because he pays cash up front.

All part of " the master plan"

The business side and the technicalities... you gotta stop doubting them.   Like I always said, any issue with them is strictly picking the wrong players,  not how they do business.

Rewarding his great season.  Opens up $6.5 mil of cap space...roughly...and the ability to lock him in and use the void years later.

I know you don't comprehend the last part of why the pushing the dead money is a great tool... but I'm guessing similar to finally getting how the team was improving all year....eventually you will understand how that pushing money..if done correctly,  is a great tool to manage the cap.  You will come around soon. Might take a few minutes of your time  to do some research or just the ability to trust other people's opinions on here.  Or just finally seeing how we continue to have cap space.

Haven’t seen really any details other than this huge guarantee on a two year extension paying him in his thirties. Was figuring it opens up cap space for this season was a big part of why it was done. I haven’t been trying to pretend I know all the details about the contract yet.

Lurie definitely has stepped up big time with fronting the money for success as a huge part of things.

I haven’t seen how anything is structured yet. He got rewarded pretty big with reaching all these bonuses already….which were going to be matched in this seasons roster money that was written in his existing contract. Guess it was one of the few moves at the disposal to open up much cap space this season. But you’re correct…without the details more than just two years extending him at 36 mil guaranteed doesn’t sound like good business. Had him right at a very good contract.

We were already paying him...cap wise in his 30s.   It's an extension but also a restructure.  We don't know if he will actually get cash in his 30s.

Ham... remember you always say " the players take a team friendly deal" including your boy Hurts.  It's not team friendly deals for the players.  Hurts is getting the most cash in the league...even now.  Barkley is rewarded with the cash.

But how it effects the cap...is a different thing.

Forget the years etc.  You have to get over the way a contract looks  on its surface.

You see 5 years $50 million and you automatically think that's it.   You add 5 years to the age and that's how your mind works.   Maybe they still only get him for 3 years...maybe 4... maybe even 6 years if they rework his deal later where they convert cash to signing bonus and push the cap hits back to 2034?

The contracts are fluid when they are long term.  That puts cash in the player's pocket ASAP...and gives the team cap flexibility.

It's not always just about the numbers shown on the surface.

I don’t know anything about the contract really other than the surface report…two year extension 36 mil guaranteed. Which obviously I don’t understand. Assumed it’s to open up cap this season.

Again though... you can't look at it in a vacuum.  It's a shifting of cap space... helping the Eagles...but also paying Barkley.  Looks good for the organization.

It's going to be a big step for you to not look at just years and dollars.

Yes... it opens up cap this season... Also allows flexibility later.

I don’t see this dead money cap hits and future cap push back contracts as being so no big deal like you do. You reason it because the cap keeps going up. But the salaries are going up accordingly. Clearly this stuff is effecting us…exactly why these moves are being made. Teams cap just went up pretty big time….yet we are scrounging to make room…so your theory on pushing the past money forward not mattering obviously isn’t ringing true.

Be nice…to be able to look at it…then I can actually judge it for myself

Going out with some friends for a few beers...I'll explain more later

But the answer was Saquan…nobody wins  the big prize this time on which player gets extended first.

Here is a mock draft I did what do you think. I really like Charles Grant and my boy Jah Joyner late.Screenshot_20250304_201000_Chrome.thumb.jpg.3063966404b6b487d7a90e62a0be4948.jpg

I wonder with him if it will really translate though. I‘M not so sure he’ll be a star in the NFL. Looking at that grouping of day three Edge players think I might be just as happy with as Sawyer. Feels like a real nice sweet spot in this draft being it has some depth there.

Sawyer is not going day 3 LMFAO and it's sad you place his talent there

It's great... Howie has paid the highest QB,OL, RB... now the league has to try to match, but even show that they pay more.

Chess vs Checkers.....how you doing John Lynch!

I’m saying there are several options I like at Edge there. just don’t know about Sawyer more I look into him. Doesn’t have the bend or elite skills to jump off. Short arms too. He’s not my guy.

It’s the Commanders that have over 80 mil in cap we faced in the NFC Championship game to be considering.

Myles Garrett likely landing spot

SC
  • Below average get-off at the snap limits his ability to stress tackles around the edge – often last one moving on the defensive line
  • Lacks elite bend and ankle flexion to consistently turn tight corners – has to win with power or through direct lines
  • Hand timing in pass rush can be erratic – allows offensive linemen to land first punch too frequently
  • Change of direction limitations show up when countering back inside – spin move lacks the explosiveness to threaten NFL tackles
  • Despite good testing numbers, functional athleticism appears closer to average – may struggle to win with speed at next level

This seems to be the consistent weakness chart for Jack Sawyer. These all are very concerning moving up to the NFL.

Last one getting off the line consistently without having the bend while his tiny TRex arms allow Oline to get there hands on him first. Just doesn’t sound great to me in a top Edge player. It’s like all the things that are key when translating to the NFL.

Now he has the strong character and football IQ, Jack Sawyer. Powerful Bull Rush.
