EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

What kinda nonsense is this? Are you even a fan of the team?

Yeah I'm sure Lions fans would prefer having Sanders and Calvin Johnson to not sucking balls for 50 years. My goodness...

I just sent this question to a Bears fan …

"As a long suffering Bears fan I would like your perspective on the following either/or choice.

Would you prefer having (a) Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson to watch every year and have the team have a losing record every year, or (b) have a Playoffs competitive team every year?”

His answer was quick and emphatic …

"No deliberation required. A playoff competitive team every year.”

Like I posted before, playing scared rarely, if ever, leads to success.  I hope I’m wrong about this current situation and they win the Super Bowl but for some reason, I doubt it.

Who is scared?

It's stupid.  Aren't people still working tomorrow?  Should be later like 7 or 7:30.

1st day back in the office after a week for many. Doesn't make any sense.

That's a weird question.  The Lions didn't have a losing record every year with Sanders OR Johnson.

They made the playoffs 6 times in Barry's 10 seasons.
They made the playoffs 2 times in Calvin's 9 seasons.

Saquon looks like a guy telling the press that he just had to put his dog down.

Going from a dull dome to the Rose Bowl is refreshing. I still don't understand why they build a roof that opens in ATL, open it for photos of the field and then keep it closed on a perfect day outside. Mid 50s, sun shining. Open that roof up! The sun peaking through all the windows in the stadium makes it that much more head scratching. Let there be sunlight.

Eagles receiver A.J. Brown is out for wild-card game vs. Bucs with a knee injury. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will miss Monday night's playoff game against Tampa Bay with a knee injury.Jan 13, 2024

Seems like nobody remembers AJ going out with a knee in the last game on their way to getting bounced in the 1st round against the bucs last year. Rest up boys, and win it all.

I brought this up last year before the game and before he got hurt. I hated the decision then cause they were playing on the crap turf that is MetLife and was a really slim chance Dallas would lose to the commanders. Add on they sat some starters and played some other starters. Either be all in with your decision or don’t. play everyone and be all in or sit everyone and not risk it. I felt like it sent conflicting messages and then ended with aj going down

I don’t understand why resting players in a meaningless game is playing scared…?

Is it playing scared when you don’t play your starters and try to win a preseason game?  If not, then what’s the difference?

You said stars don't play and they all play the same way. Wrong on both points. It's okay to say you don't watch the games but then to throw out talking points you got from First Take which are wrong is just stupid.

I haven’t watched first take in probably 10 years

What was it about 2010 thru 2012 that prompted such a spike in viewership?

Stupid and irrelevant question.  It is a question worthy of Chicken Little.

I agree a very stupid question but extremely relevant to asking you when you are quoting me saying Pickett deserves to rest during the wild card game when I was in a discussion with someone else saying Pickett would start the wild card game with the rib injury if Jalen isn't ready to go by then.

Oregon picked a bad time to drop a deuce on the field.

Agreed, I removed the Sanders part. Bad way to make my point. Really was mixing 2 points.

So point 1, Super Bowls are more important than the rushing record.

Point 2, people know who the truly elite backs were. Davis was a great scheme fit, did power a Super Bowl offense. But people don't put him in the Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, etc. conversation. Nowhere close.

Eric Dickerson was a great back who never won a Super Bowl. He's now known widely only for a single season record despite his great career.

Point 3- just because they sit Barkley and all the starters doesn't mean they will win the Super bowl.

People need to stop saying Super Bowl over rushing record because it's not guaranteed whether he played or sat.

Just because you can use the word "scared" in a description of the decision doesn't mean that this is the motivation for the decision. Is resting players, in part, due to being scared that a key player might be knocked out with injury, yes, BUT is resting players a strategy to go into the playoffs with the best team in order to win an SB? Also yes. One is a correlation, scared, and one is a cause, winning a SB.

That was moronic when they played him in that regular season game.

But even that one…they were in a disastrous tailspin looking for a get right game.  There was a rationale, albeit a flawed one, that they did what they did to best maximize their playoff prospects.

The idea was to rest Pickett this week and give his ribs a week to heal, in case he's needed for the playoffs.  Why play a guy who we know is currently injured in a game that doesn't matter... AND they are already planning to rest starters?   Suit up McKee and Book (since Book is already on the 53) and let Pickett's ribs heal a little more.  Hopefully they don't need him, but more importantly, with him already banged up, the likelihood of needing to turn to McKee rises sharply, and giving him more reps can only be a benefit down the road.

You know what is guaranteed? A first round exit if saquon played and got hurt week 18.

I agree.   I don't see it as a fear thing at all.

What I see as a potential issue is that this can be emotionally deflating for this team that had been on a great run.  Barkley is saying all the right things, but his facial expression was that of someone who was told he had to put his dog down.  Gone was the euphoria of last Sunday when he passed 2k.  It was replaced by sadness and disappointment.

Also, he would've broken the record probably last week had he not been pulled early from a couple games

Why are you intruding in something to try to incorrectly clarify a point someone else was making?  Diehardfan was saying McKee was going to be Foles 2.0 if Hurts can't go for the playoffs.  I said Pickett would still start and WentzFan11 tried to argue that Pickett wouldn't start in the playoffs while he has a rib injury.

Unclear whether Hurts didn't practice because of the concussion or he wouldn't have anyway.

Oregon ducking sucks

And f terrorists for ruining the ND-UGA game.

It is why we cannot have nice things...
