Game plan grasshopper … game plan.

Looks like Rams will have to play starters final week if they want the higher seed to play the Packers/Redskins.  That or rest starters, get the 4th seed instead and play the Lions/Vikings.  Seems worth it to play and take the Packers/Redskins at home instead.

Whether it is Rams or Bucs in that 3rd seed I could see whichever winning that game.  That would force Detroit/Vikings to play in the Divisional around and then the Eagles would get Bucs/Rams in the divisional round.  Would actually work out.  Might even end up with a home NFC Championship Game.

If the goal of the play is to achieve optimal risk reduction, he will.  It is simple mathematics.

Math doesn't suit up and play though.

Competitors will compete.

Rams offense since they played the eagles hasn’t been all that great outside of the bills game. Since the eagles game.

vs. Eagles: 20 points (garbage time td)

At New Orleans: 21 points

Vs. Buffalo: 44

At sf: 12

at jets: 19

tonight vs. cards: 10 (so far).

Cooper Kupp looks broken.

They don’t throw to him. I was going to say, their pass offense consists of basically just throwing it to nacua and everyone else doesn’t ge more than 1-2  targets. Kupp over the last 3 weeks has 4 receptions and just 9 targets. Meanwhile nacua has 31 targets. Next closest to nacua has been kupp with 9 over that stretch. Stafford has 78 throws over that time. Meaning nacua is being targeted at about 40% of his dropbacks

Starting to think the Packers are going to end up with the 7 seed, not sure they beat the Vikings.

Cardinals showing why they are a terrible team.  Why are you even passing there when you have 2 time outs left?

Witherspoon just purchased LA’s ticket into the postseason

Kyler Murray seems to always do this. Starts the year off hot (12 passing tds, 3 ints and 4 rushing tds and qb rating of 100.6). Then comes the last 5-6 weeks where he gets banged up and doesn’t play that well. Last 6 weeks he has 5 passing tds (1 rushing TD) and 8 ints and 80.3 Qb rating. I didn’t even mentioned the call of duty thing either

It’s only a matter of time until Arizona moves on from him.

Got to imagine nbc was hoping the cardinals would win that game. Would’ve made snf game in week 18 of Seattle/rams winner takes nfc west. Now it probably is meaningless.

That was CJGJ’s motto last week.  He is singing a different tune this week.  Plus Cooper is the quintessential team player.

If you’re still clinging to the hope of the Eagles getting the top seed — and I fall into that category— you should be rooting hard for the Bengals and Rams today. We beat both of those teams whereas the Vikings beat the Cardinals. The strength of victory tiebreak figures to be pretty close and today basically encompasses a swing of three full games.

Right now, assuming a Vikings loss tomorrow and win next week, the SOV calculations have the Lions at 104 wins and 112 losses, the Vikings at 90 wins and 125 losses, and the Eagles at 93 wins and 121 losses.  So SOV with the Vikings is looking much better for the Eagles than it was at the beginning of Week 16.  However, if the Vikings and Lions end up tied (Vikings lose to Packers and beat the Lions) then the first tie breaker is between the Lions and Vikings, and that favors the Lions.  Bottom-line, if the lions beat the 49ers tomorrow, then the Eagles' chances of the #1 seed drop to zero.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Eagles chances of the #1 seed already dropped to zero, the 49ers aren't beating the Lions, that Niners team is terrible.

Honestly I was rooting for the Cardinals also so the Seattle-LA matchup would have more meaning. Seattle still has a chance, but a very small one.

Effectively zero, but not actually zero until after the Vikings and Eagles play tomorrow and the Lions play Monday

Even though the Eagles are a game out of the No. 1 seed to the Lions (13-2) and Vikings (13-2), they still can earn home-field advantage with two games to play. This scenario needs to happen for the Eagles to get the No. 1 seed:

Under this scenario, the Eagles and Vikings would finish 14-3 while the Lions would finish 13-4. The Eagles would have the common opponents' tiebreaker over the Vikings since both teams would have the same conference record (9-3). The common opponent would be the Los Angeles Rams and Packers, whom the Eagles defeated and the Vikings didn't.

I disagree. Outside of Carter, on defense there probably isn’t an more important starter over their replacement than DeJean over Maddox. It’s imperative that Maddox never sees the field again. Risking that for the hope of a good PR isn’t worth it. They need to get someone else back there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Maddox is this season's Gainwell. He had a couple bad plays and everybody thinks he's completely worthless. Stats don't matter whatsoever. We were fortunate to have him to start the season while DeJean was getting healthy and catching up from the lost TC / preseason time. Maddox is a team player very willing to help the young guys like DeJean learn. If Maddox had been having a season like he had in 2021 or 2022, DeJean might have had to sit even longer. So things worked out well for the team that he was here to teach and push DeJean and DeJean was able to overtake him as a player. Maddox still has value to this team as a reserve. If Maddox has to come in, it's not nearly the drop-off we've seen from Blankenship or CJGJ to McCollum at safety. I mean, I wholeheartedly agree that DeJean is the better player at nickel. I just don't lack confidence in Maddox if he has to fill in at nickel. He's way better than anybody that tried to fill in for him when he was injured last year. Maddox has played 250 defensive snaps this year. He has been targeted 23 times and has allowed 11 completions (just 47.8%), has 5 PDs and has allowed a passer rating of 76.2 when targeted. He has 1 missed tackle on the season.

Honestly, he's a seriously good, experienced backup nickel that is capable of backing up any position in the secondary if injuries require it. He also plays almost half of the special teams plays. I don't understand the hate directed at him --- especially when at this point he is just a reserve because we drafted a player that is better and showing flashes of greatness as a rookie.

And regarding DeJean doing PRs with Covey out, I'm all for it. Our special teams can really use a spark and DeJean has the playmaking abilities to provide that. Last week in the cold air, Elliot missed a FG because it was 3 yards short. Never underestimate the importance of  just 3 more yards.

Thanks for this. It has allowed me to realize that I've been operating under a misconception this entire week. I have been assuming that if we get to a 14-3 tiebreak with the Vikings, it would come down to strength of victory. This would have been true in the case of a 15-2 tiebreak, but with 3 losses for the Vikings, their extra loss would be to Green Bay, which changes everything.

Yes, it would come down to common opponents. They would be GREEN BAY, ATLANTA, N.Y. GIANTS, JACKSONVILLE, and L.A. RAMS. In the tiebreak scenario, the Eagles would be 5-1 against those teams (losing to Atlanta) whereas the Vikings would be 4-2 (losing to the Rams and Green Bay). I guess that explains why the ESPN playoff machine tracker has the Eagles winning the tiebreak no matter what happens with the SOV that I've been tracking. I just thought they were calculating things incorrectly. Silly me.

I feel foolish but relieved. Win twice, have the Lions lose twice, and have the Packers beat the Vikings, and we get the top seed.

At least the weather is supposed to cooperate tomorrow.

The Niners game is the issue here and that's assuming Pickett can get the job done.

You’re being extremely kind to Maddox , he’s a complete liability with coverage and penalties

Going to completely disagree about Maddox, especially comparing him to Gainwell. Gainwell has had positive contributions this season, he’s an ideal RB2 that has made drive extending plays. It seems that things go poorly for the defense as soon as Maddox is on the field, especially given that QB immediately target him. I am a fan of Maddox, his peak was fun, but can’t deny any longer that injuries caught up and he’s washed.
