Yeah goedert is immensely harder to trade than CJGJ from multiple different ways. CJGJ signed a team friendly deal and it always had an out in 2025 why it happened as quickly as it did.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the eagles tried a Josh sweat type of deal that they did last year win him. Frankly I don’t see a team trading for him and giving him an extension he wants at 30 and the amount of injuries he’s endured. I tend to think the eagles likely draft his replacement this year and lean more towards him being back one way or another

Yeah, I've been saying a Sweat like deal for DG makes the most sense. Frankly, they should be showing DG the contract Sweat just got and encouraging him to cut the option bonus to like $9mm and try to ball out this year (and stay healthy).

As for BG -- he gets the Kelce treatment. If he wants to play, we sign him again.

Agreed

Has he ever requested a trade?

Poor guy.

I think he'll hit on the top 2, hopefully, but historically teams don't hit on every pick the way they have the last few years. Can we count on a 3rd coming in and playing like Hunt? Vic has an eye, so hopefully, but that's expecting a lot at the same time. The same way it's expecting a lot for the defense to lose 6 people including valuable backups and expect to still have the top defense. DE, S, DT, and CB are my biggest concerns. Not just with the younger guys stepping up, but not having as much depth behind them. Last year if a starter got hurt we had Rodgers and Ringo coming off the bench. Moves will still be made, but we can only talk about things as they progress.

Fingers crossed, but I think what upsets some of us the most is they finally had good LB and secondary play. They finally had that dominate defense that some of us have dreamed of since years ago. Changes had to be made like Williams and Sweat, but the rest is what's hitting us.

All good points.  Regarding hitting on the 3rd Rounder this year, it helps that the middle of the Draft is so deep in potential starters.  It really is a Top 100 this year.

I understand him being a dart throw, and that's fine. He costs nothing so why not? He can spend the offseason at the facility and see where he shakes out with the rest when TC begins.

It's the "Eagles traded CJGJ because they have Cine ready to go" takes that are driving me crazy.

No one said that.

No crap it's hard. And yeah not having a HOF RT is going to cause them a step back along with SB and Brown being 30.

Bottom line is you don't care about taking a step back this year and not having as good of a shot or you believe every scrub FA and draft pick is going to be able to step right in and no step back. Cool. I do not. No point in continuing.

so Aj brown at 30 is automatically going to just fall off a cliff? So what if he’s still great at 30? I didn’t know AJ Brown was gonna lose both of his legs at 30. Again the Eagles are going to have a plan to replace Johnson. Is he going to be as good as Lane Johnson? Probably not. But that was always going to be the case. However, I trust that Jeff Stoutland whoever he identifies it’s gonna be able to get them to play at a level where we can still be really good on offense. Like did we see a massive drop from Kelce to jurgens? Did we see a massive drop when they drafted Dickerson when brooks was done? Did we see a drop off from seumalo to jurgens (when he played guard)? Did we see a drop off when we moved jurgens inside to center and replaced him with Becton? Are we fine with mailata at LT after peters left? Also what if lane says i wanna keep playing like peters and is still good in 3 years so because you didn’t care you potentially hurt his last couple years

No, I care about having a sustainable window and not throwing it away because you think we have to go all in on 2025 like it’s the only year that ever is going to exist.

they were always likely  going to take a step back on defense. You weren’t gonna lose sweat and Milton Williams and miss Dean for half the year or more and not see a drop off. And avoid major injuries consecutive years. That was likely going to happen anyways.

Also, the Eagles didn’t have the cap space to keep some of these guys because some of these other teams have ridiculous amount of cap space in a bad free agent class. That’s why Isaiah Rodgers is gone. If it was a better free agent class, he probably isn’t getting signed on the first day of tampering. I love Milton Williams, but the fact he got $26 mil per year tells me it’s a bad class and teams were willing to overpay for guys that had no business getting that money.

I can’t imagine BG coming off of a double tricep tear wanting to rehab and then get back into shape. I think he played in that SB knowing it was his last game and he was willing to rush back from injury for it.

I have the same thought... but selfishly, I want him back.  He was actually really good last year too... and in a limited role, for a nice price, and veteran leadership, I can't turn him down.

I love the BG mic'd up snippets!

Love Starks.

Wouldn't love him at 32.

I'm a big fan, but again, the d-line. He may not even last to 32 either.

I'm sure they'll add one, but to me any third wave free agent safety is a guy who likely will be not very good. Most of the veteran safeties who sign late just aren't very good and the Eagles have not had success finding safeties that way in the past.

A third wave Safety could be third wave because Howie has had discussions with that player and his agent and mutually agreed on the timing as third wave.

I don't see why Goedert goes for that seeing what Juwan Johnson and other lesser TE's have recently made

Not in the blog but I'm tired of seeing his name in general

In here I've seen "They must have liked what they saw with Cine" and other variations of that which is also teetering on ridiculous

Yup. Part of me wonders if goedert doesn’t want too cause he’s 30 and injury prone. Whereas sweat had the knee issue and a down year but was only 27 at the time. That said I still think it’s the most logical solution.

Compete with who exactly...

Sucks. We need too much now and not enough high picks to address two d-linemen, a safety, probably a TE... I'd love one of the top two safeties but you can't pass over the d-linemen.

The Safety from Iowa is an interesting Day 3 or late Day 2 prospect

Well, because we could be dikks and cut him in August, leaving him with limited options.

Just on juwan Johnson, no one should look at that cause there’s only one team named the saints lol

Even if they get the picks right, which isn't guaranteed, it's a lot of pressure to expect them to step in right away like Q and Coop. Last year spoiled us because many take a year or two like Dean and Smith.

If the Safety from Iowa does become an Eagle, he and DeJean already have a working relationship.  That should help the learning curve and lessen the pressure

Should go to the chargers so mcconkey and kupp can make west coast exciting whites

Also depends on what feedback he gets IF he does indeed have permission to seek a trade.

It's hard to gauge exactly what happened with Sweat last year. Did teams not want to pay him or were the trade offers not good enough for Howie? Seems like it was more of the former with how quickly he took the pay cut. If there are teams like Broncos or Colts out there willing to give him a good extension Eagles lose leverage with the pay cut option.

When a player is released, do those void years all accelerate on to the current year's cap?

Yup

Just using him as an example because he was the most recent. You also have the Bengals giving Gesicki $12M in his first year and other bad TE's contracts out there. I'd feel pretty insulted to cut my $14M salary if I were him while Gesicki is making slightly less.

See what I mean about the legs too wide and no knee bend?

His butt is so low that it looks like he can be over topped by a bull rush
