Final Game One Prediction Results

@Bwestbrook36 with a prediction of Eagles 24 and Cowboys 17 gets the win, with @devpool with a prediction of 23-22 getting the runner up (Stan Lee's infamous No Prize).  A total of 72 predictions were recorded with 69 for an Eagles win and 3 for a Saints win.  The average predicted score was Eagles 32 Cowboys 19.

Only 1 Bonus prediction was correct. @LacesOut with "Does Dak seem to play well against the Eagles, or is that just my imagination? I think he plays very well on Thursday night. But the Eagles pull out the win"

A Jim Marshall "you are going the wrong way" prize goes to @wussbasket for his "

Honorable Mentions go to

@we_gotta_believe for his layup prediction "We got a game to watch!"

@McMVP for "Campbell with a sack and a forced fumble" ... getting 50% of that one ain't bad

and @EagleJoe8 for "At least one of our top 3 rookies (Campbell, Makuba, or Robinson) will record their first sack, INT, or fumble recovery." ... forced fumble and fumble recovery being in the same ballpark

Here is a visual of the final list of predictions.

If Jalen Carter wasn't an idiot, I suspect the game plan would have meant Patrick Johnson's snap count would have been a lot lower yesterday. It's part of the frustration of a single player being a doofus impacting the game plan not just for his position, but across the D and STs.

Yup, if JC was out there Ojomo/JD likely could’ve been used more situationally and geared towards their strengths (pass and neutral respectively).

He can't read a defense, obviously. We're never gonna win a super bowl with this scumbag at QB.

Carson Strong is waiting in the wings. We're good..

The only difference to me is last year they had the players to get better already on the roster even if we didn't know it at the time. I don't see a CB or extra edge this year who can step up. Maybe Mac down the line

I’d argue the eagles playoff run and particularly SB skews how we perceived the pass rush we had last year for much of the regular season. it was great in those games but it wasn’t elite all last year. Don’t get me wrong they weren’t bad or anything. They were solid last year. Sheil and seyed discussed and broke down the analytics all last regular season about the pass rush and how the secondaries ability to cover really helped a pass rush that was not nearly as good as some previous iterations of the eagles.

The issue the eagles have is their second corner spot is an issue. Teams are going to attack that repeatedly until the eagles solve the issue. So either need a better pass rush to help with that or find that corner that can be their next Darius slay. Can move cooper into it but then got a hole at slot corner unless Mac can handle that role. Which if Bennett fails after adoree might be the next plan.

I don't recall saying this but it does sound like something I would say

Would have been a touchback and Eagles ball if it fumbled into the endzone right? I can't remember that rule

If it went in the endzone and then out of bounds. I doubt that would have happened since that was more than 20 yards.

There were weeks early last year where Booker and Ojomo were our best DTs, and people were starting to question Carter for inconsistency and not showing up in games.

Then Carter became dominant, and Nolan Smith decided to begin his career. And later on Hunt began playing and made an instant impact. Suddenly, we had a ton of contributors.

I expect the pass rush to instant look a hell of a lot better next week, IF Carter is not suspended for that game.

I hope that they let it go at this point. He served a game already the way I see it. Maybe hit his pocket book a little, but it should be done imo.

I don't think the league will do anything besides a fine. I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles did something though.

While trying to fall asleep in the wee hours, I thought about not having Carter. What if we knew he was going to miss this game? I went further and imagined what the offseason would look like if he disappeared on February 10.

Without his extension looming, Howie would have taken a more traditional approach to the offseason. I believe he would have kept Williams, CJGJ, and Rodgers. Our DL would be weaker (but more reliable) in the middle, but the secondary would be more secure.

Agree about the pass rush.

I was talking about the corner spots last year so I think we agree. Last year we didn't know Coop would step up and be the player he was. This year I don't see someone unless its Mac who can fill that spot. I also don't see another edge taking a step the way Hunt did later in the season. Last year they had internal solutions. This year I don't. Howie needs to make moves there.

I can’t wait to see Campbell grow in this defense playing next to Baun. The two of them are going to be terrors.

After last night, hope Ringo can get himself out of the doghouse and back into the conversation. He at least is around the receiver and not looking like a chicken with his head cut off like Jackson. He's taller and can add that element. Jackson is small and really not that athletic. Good that Fangio has 10 days to figure all that out. I'd even play Ricks over Jackson. But really one of Bennett & Ringo have to step up. Adoree Jackson is last year's Maddox. But worse...

The Eagles wanted Ringo to win that job and gave him every opportunity. The fact that he couldn't win it over Adore Jackson tells me he's just not that good.

I expect that as well. However the analytics Sheil and seyed went into from last year’s regular season showed their pass rush wasn’t some elite pass rush. They were closer to league average than a top 5. The difference was sweat, smith, williams and hunt began to come on towards the end of the year then really in the playoffs particularly the Super Bowl.

I thought seyed said it perfectly in their podcast, their secondary being able to be sticky and cover at an elite level last year after the bye. He explained the defense was actually built a little differently than the way the eagles usually intend it to be with pass rush helping the secondary be better. Pretty much consistently once dejean was inserted into the lineup after the bye, they became elite in the secondary which helped their pass rush. the pass rush eventually got better with smith, hunt, sweat (getting hot), Carter becoming more consistent and Williams coming more alive as the season continued. Then really took off to another level in the playoffs

Merrill Reese may be losing it. On WIP a few minutes ago he said that ejecting Carter was excessive and the Eagles just should just of had a 15 yard penalty. Time for that guy to.hang it up.

Uche seems to have some juice, might benefit from some line games - was Ojalari scratched due to injury?

Most of us didn’t think hunt would contribute at all last year. Transitioning to the position in just a year or two and was more of a project. He happened to start playing better and getting more snaps particularly after Graham went down. Too early to say for me that aziz and uche can’t be a solid 3rd pass rusher. Imo their bigger issue is the loss of Darius slay. Even at his age slay was still playing at a good level. Unless Bennett steps up or Mac is a good slot corner then i don’t think they have internally the guy. I like Bennett but they made that trade in training camp. It was going to take time for him to learn the defense.

Imo i think if they could do it over, they’d have stronger competition via FA entering minicamps for ringo then what they had with adoree

Rewatched the game and was it short, both offenses eating clock purposely.

Guys like i said earlier in the day yesterday…. Week 1 is a trap game lol

I think @Joe Ball pointed it out last night as the play of the game. I think thats right. That was a key turning point. Without that stop, and the ensuing turnover we may not win that game considering how our second half offense looked.

Not to mention the PF on Blankenship that gave them the first down, leading to the fumble. Who knows how the end of the game goes protecting a 1 point lead versus a 4 point lead?

Ojulari and Okoronkwo were both healthy scratches
