When is @Connecticut Eagle starting the offseason blog?

It is my belief that Jalen Hurts will complicate the OC search. Guys like Mcdaniels want to run a certain offense and Hurts may not have what it takes for them to run their blueprint. I understand that Hurts led offenses have gotten 2 OCs HC jobs. It’s also gotten 2 OCs fired. He’s limited with scheme and I really think some of these more creative guys aren’t going to want to hitch their wagon to that.

Name all these QBs who aren't limited I'm some way. This is a myopic point of view.

A coachs primary job is to maximize the talent he has. Nick has clearly demonstrated over half a decade that he absolutely can't do that.

I'm not sure what type of QB would work in this scheme. A Phillip Rivers/Tanner McKee would have been on IR by week 8.

If you need a perfect QB to run your scheme, you don't have a scheme and you probably won't have a job

Here's the Eagles FA list to consider for resigning, releasing, etc.:

  • TE Dallas Goedert

  • S Reed Blankenship

  • DL Jaelan Phillips

  • ED Azeez Ojulari

  • WR Jahan Dotson

  • DL Brandon Graham

  • P Braden Mann

  • ED Joshua Uche

  • TE Kylen Granson

  • G Matt Pryor

  • LT Fred Johnson

  • RB A.J. Dillon

  • LB Nakobe Dean

  • ED Ogbonnia Okoronkwo

  • G Brett Toth

  • FB Ben VanSumeren (RFA)

  • QB Sam Howell

  • TE Grant Calcaterra

Keep Mann, Johnson and Toth. Nakobe if he takes a reasonable team friendly deal. Everyone else can pack their bags.

They played like i expected them to as well.........crappy

Well yeah, we knew that would happen. It wasn't their worst performance though and they ran the ball with a modest amount of success.

Man, Jaelen Phillips really fell off. He’s been real quiet over the past month or so.

Agreed. Totally underwhelming. No thanks to re-signing him.

Bang for his buck, Howie had a rough year. We burned quite a bit of resources big (a 3 for Phillips) and small (trades for Johnson, Alexander, Bennett, cap space for Ojulari that cost us a comp pick, trading for Michael Carter, etc.

They took a managed risk on the composition of the roster because they knew if they didn't, they'd not be able to reup certain players in future years. Hence signing the likes of Jackson, Uche etc on the cheap. At some point, they had to do this.

Short term, its fair to say, it didn't work and left holes that the team struggled to adequately resolve all year. Longer term, they may deem it a risk worth taking for the health of the franchise because it means the likes of Carter etc can get contract extensions.

A bit surprised to see him get head coaching job offers I figured he would be a oc again this coming year

I think this has been touched on a bunch but trading AJ isn't feasible this offseason. Despite the game he had, I don't think a downgrade at WR is a fix for the team. They need to fix the coaching staff, add depth to the o-line and fix the TE position.

AJ is going nowhere due to the cap. The sooner this is understood, the better.

Phillips didn’t pass the eye test but the metrics love him. He’s ranked very highly in pressure rate and such. I think he could stay especially since they’re thin at edge.

Can someone explain to me how they trade AJ with a pre-June 1 trade dead money hit of almost $43 million?

Post June 1, I guess.

Well I get to listen to all the bears fans now today and all week.

Hoping the Rams smoke them and then Seattle beats the niners and then the rams. Hopefully bills or texans will win the afc

Rather draft an edge early

What are you talking about? Those were not go routes. The receivers did exactly what the play called for against a zone. Run 10-12 yards straight ahead and turn around. That is how insane the play calling has been this year...it is totally inept. Against zone, the players should be instructed to move to gaps if they are running such a simple, mindless play...instead...they literally run to a defender and turn around. The season was on the line and that is the best this fool OC has? Yes...it is that bad...and the scary part is this play has been the bread and butter play all season long. The brain trust absolutely needs to make an example of this clown first thing this morning..time is ticking as far as I am concerned.

Go watch the play again. 3 of the receivers were in the end zone or ended up in the endzone. The only guy short of the end zone was Goedert and he was triple covered.

They were vertical routes that never developed. Not the play you call in the redzone on 4th down with 2 timeouts left when you only need a first down.

Baltimore kept the Alexander pick, huh?

There still would be a $22M dead cap hit… Not going to happen

Why wouldnt you keep Reed ? Also, what makes Toth worth keeping ? I keep hearing on here that he's garbage

He reported to the Eagles and passed his physical.

Have finite resources and gotta get OL help somewhere. I think they almost have to go OL early.

I don't think it's impossible - it's just that there are bigger fish to fry, imo.

Toth is good, cheap depth.

Reed can go after yesterday’s performance. He’s oft injured and will only get worse with age once his limited athleticism escapes him.

I’m good with hitting both lines in the first and second round, using a BPA approach.

He can force his way out if he makes it untenable. They won’t let a guy hold the team hostage. We thought they couldn’t get rid of Wentz. Unlikely but not impossible.

Still bad faith but that's just me

Go Steelers.
