Funny, everyone says Jerry is cheap too, DAL ranked 6th…Jerry isn’t cheap, he’s just incompetent. Doesn’t know how to spend his money to maximize the on field product. I think he just enjoys kicking himself(and DAL fans) square in the nuts every chance he gets.

Jerry isn't cheap but I do wonder if part of his problem is an unwillingness to push money into future years. So maybe the difference is more nuanced but Lurie is from generational wealth and isn't concerned about losing it. Jerry built his wealth and thinks there is ultimately no guarantee he will be able keep it.

I wouldn't hate Lattimore if he gets Adoree type money. He's coming off a knee injury but he's been an elite player in the past, isn't that old. He didn't have a good year last year but the Commies defense was just garbage overall. When you sign a guy like that you hope someone beats him out in camp, but he's fine veteran insurance. I think he has more upside than Adoree.

The final option is if Slay wants to come back for one more season, he hasn't retired yet.

Sounds like Eagles are low balling Goedert and holding firm

They should sign Maddox to a vet minimum contract to sweeten the deal for Goedert.

Don't be confused. The Cowboys were at the bottom of the '15-'19 study. The '21-'24 study included two Prescott contract extensions and a CeeDee one that he waited too long for.

A lot of TEs have signed deals... but for more than I expected. That's Day 1, I guess.

Miami has to wait until tomorrow because they are designating him post June 1st

Is Howie allowed to negotiate with his agent prior so that a deal can be done tomorrow?

Might work.

This is absolutely the case...as proven by the fact that DAL can create so much room by restructuring contracts this year alone...he has done a few out of necessity this year but he hasn't gone "all in". If I were him at 83 years old you bet your ass I'm pulling all the levers possible, even if that means I have to completely rebuild in two years. His window ends with Daks window...I wouldn't call it a window, more like a crack.

No. Since they are still under contract and the team could in theory change their mind, they aren't eligible for the legal tampering period.

They are open to illegal tampering though.

Not confused at all, responding to info in the post. It just reinforces how incredibly bad at managing the cap(his money) he is.

Man, if we trade him to the packers, those 2028 and 2029 first round picks are gonna be sweeeettttttttt

I'd say starting Edge rather than a third Edge. Nolan and Hunt are not starters on a championship team. We saw that last season. This pass rush was abysmal until they traded for Phillips. Whatever Edge they bring in needs to be "the guy" whether it's a signing, draft pick, or trade. If not, I think the pass rush is going to probably suck again next season. Starting Edge in my estimation is the single biggest need on the roster right now.

I’m starting OLBs in the 2024 Super Bowl were? Nolan Smith really "manned up” last year with his trying to play with one wing due to the tricep injury early and then aggravated it. That was the reason for the trade. You do realize that when he returned in November they sat Philips on most pass downs. Philips is best against the run but kind of mediocre against the pass.

As we look at edges, we have to see an ability against the pass. Yes, in Fangio’s defense, they are OLBs. Hunt is actually a pretty good OLB in that regard.

Hurtt and Fangio love different looks. Sometimes the OLBs line up like 4/3 edges, sometimes as 3/4 OLBs. Sometimes they switch rush with the ILbs. Sometimes, they play a 3/4. That’s why all the under 300 lb DTs that play DE at times and sometimes that means a DT is playing in a 4/3 type DL with one OLB rushing and the other dropping.

Couple that with the different ways his secondary aligns. That includes the OLBs and ILBs in the zones at times. Replacing Reed with more speed is key. The Reed/Epps combo didn’t cut it. Really wish Brown could play like Coop.

Back to the needs list. Where do we need Pro Bowl level talent? TE? It would be nice to have quality at CB3, S, and Edge3. Point being, there is already sufficient, high-level talent on the roster. More would be better, but not vital.

I trust Howie and Vic to put together the defense. It's TE and OL that concern me right now.

A third Edge

A starting CB

A starting S

An entire TE room

A #3 WR

A punter

A long snapper

Some OL depth

3rd QB

My guess right now about what they'll do:

A third Edge/starting Edge: sign free agent Chubb

A starting CB - re-sign Adoree Jackson cheap, but draft someone also

A starting S - re-sign Epps, also draft pick to compete, eventual starter

An entire TE room - re-sign Goedert to address the financial impact (no one's signed him yet). Draft, maybe even draft two (trade back at some point for extra mid round picks). Howie may also (ugh) re-sign Calcaterra cheap.

A #3 WR - I don't know, cheap free agent or draft pick who eventually could replace AJ after he's gone next year

A punter - re-sign Mann

A long snapper - re-sign Hughlett

Some OL depth - draft, draft, draft added to current depth, re-sign Toth

3rd QB - re-sign Howell or another cheap option. (Keep McKee as #2)

They're either not active in FA because of an AJ trade (unlikely), or they're not active in FA because even without an AJ trade there just isn't a lot to spend considering the amount of holes we have. This was never going to be a year with a flurry of free agent signings. I would expect a signing or two next week under $5m, probably a cheap safety or CB.

He should fire his agent

This is honestly what think they will and probably should do.

The only hole on the roster IMO is TE. Mid starters aren’t holes they are just mid.

I probably sound like a broken record, but with one of their starting tackles going down for long periods the last two years they need a good veteran swing T. I'm good with drafting one, but they need a vet and Pryor can't be an option

A 6 feels low for Nakobe. Becton signed for less and it got them a 5th

I thought so too.

Speaking of Reddick, what’s his deal? I know he only had like 2 sacks last year but I believe he’s a FA and thrived in a Fangio style system.

I'd move on from Hughlett. Too many injuries and it wouldn't cost much, if anything, to replace him with someone younger. Whoever filled in for him last year seemed fine.

Also move on from Howell. He basically said he wants to go somewhere to either be the #2 or compete. Try to draft the 3rd QB who could move up to #2 when McKee goes elsewhere. Unless they trade McKee this offseason, then bring Howell back as the #2.
