John Schneider is better but Howie is up there.

Howie is not a god though he's had bad offseasons before. Gotta judge based on merit especially when last year everyone was like "Patience, Howie has something cooking" and he didn't. Their 2025 strategy was sign cheap guys and pray. The prayers weren't answered.

Seems like way too much for him. Don't think that takes them out of still trying to get AJ though.

The 2 biggest issues last year were Patullo and the O line health. A better OC and healthy O line and it would have been very different. For all the players that left in free agency, the defense was still a great defense last year. With all the money invested in the offense and the horrible output, the issues weren't in Howie's 2025 offseason decisions. Hiring Patullo was the downfall of the season. And rushing back Dickerson and Jurgens before they were ready. The offense was built to dominate and be the top offense in the league.

Howie made sacrifices in some areas to prepare for others. The core defensive players will be extended and the rest supplemented with draft picks (Hunt, Campbell, Mukuba already in place).

None of this contests what I said though. Their main problem during the season was on offense, but none of their signings in free agency worked out and they had to blow picks in trades(Phillips, Fred Johnson, Bigsby, Jaire) and more money(Za'Darius Smith, talking BG out of retirement) because their signings didn't work. Those are two separate truths. It's objectively true that their free agent haul last year did not work out. Hope they have something better planned this year than dart throws at bargain bin guys.

They really couldn't afford to do anything differently last year - we couldn't pay Sweat. Williams was replaced easily by Ojomo. But who is the FA edge rusher they could have afforded that they didn't sign? Big Fred went out in search of a chance to start.

The biggest miss was Ojulari - I liked the signing at the time. But this is the reality for last season and this season - we don't have much flexibility cap wise.

No - as @LeanMeanGM pointed out, you can't release someone before the start of the league year and designate a post June 1 cut. So he will be released tomorrow at the start of the league year.

Okay thanks

I do wonder about not being able to pay Sweat. I think if you subtract everything they spent on everyone else(Ojulari, Uche, Goedert, Adoree, etc) they might have been able to afford it. Maybe not, who knows. Either way if you're gonna take make dart throws, you gotta be right. Last year they were not and it cost them money and picks.

If you could go back would you give Williams or Davis that contract because it seems similar

Davis, and it's not close.

The jets need to fold the franchise

2024 we hit on Baun and Becton - massive value given the contract. In 2025, we missed on Ojulari, arguably had a small hit with Adoree. Uche seemed to play well when they actually played him. But Ojulari was the disappointment.

The other thing is just the O Line injuries killed us. They really should have played Toth or Kendall at center, but we kept running Jurgens out there. But we just really had no answer for massive dropoffs from Dickerson and Mailata.

Spike Eskin says Eagles need to just trade AJ for a 2nd and 4th

It's ok to say their free agency and offseason sucked last year. It did. It doesn't make you a Howie hater to say that and doesn't mean you don't appreciate his abilities.

None of their free agent signings worked out and their draft class didn't play as much as they hoped. It's ok to acknowledge this. Howie is still really good. Just needs to have much better success this offseason than last is all. You can survive one bad offseason. Every GM has em. It's when you start to stack em that you start to see real regression.

Confirmation that trading him is dumb

Probably concerned he’d be catching passes from the Commanders backup QB for half the season.

Been saying him or Nick cross. Good chance neither make what Blankenship got and might wind up being better
