UnFNbelievable.

Also, another day of Howie doing absolutely nothing.

Not sure what Garafolo is talking about. He said the Eagles can’t afford to keep Brown and Goedert but keeping both of them helps them financially not hurts them. Never seen so much misinformation around the Eagles as I have this offseason.

Needs a redshirt year and then, maybe. Has nice quickness and good feet but has to get a lot stronger. JMHO

That kind of describes Hinton last year, doesn’t it?

We can't pay Goedert if we keep brown? What? He's just saying stuff.

I subscribe to The Athletic. Russini’s column is in their Scoop newsletter and highly driven by fantasy. I skip her column everyday because it is pure 💩. Nguyen is pretty good and, of course Berman. Every year when it goes to renew, I go to cancel and they offer a tremendous discount. Same with PHLY, which I only subscribe to for Fran’s stuff. His draft guide is better than Bugler’s Beast. He had a good article on Ss for the upcoming draft today.

Watched some Arnold Ebiketie highlights and he doesn't look too bad. I could actually see him being better than any of our FA edge pickups over the past couple years.

Howie can cut both or keep both. Anyone thinking he wouldn’t be able to figure it out is freaking nuts. Kind of like the people who were claiming Baltimore couldn’t afford Hendrickson and Crosby. Based on what? People just pulling nonsense out of their butts

If AJ does get traded, we’ll hear that Howie did some funny business with his contract that made the dead cap hit way less. Just watch

Are the Texans allergic to OL. Never seen a team cycle through OL like them.

Complete and total nonsense. It is actually more cost effective to keep Goedert for the cap than it is to lose him.

He is probably talking about cash

I don't know, because they wouldn't save any more cash trading him now than post June 1st so there really isn't an advantage in cash savings doing it early and they'd hurt their cap on top of it.

You don’t say?! She’ll be back spamming trade imminent reports until the start of the season. Then it’ll pick back up at the trade deadline. She’s a 🤡

You know who’s gonna be pissed he’s not dealt? @T-1000 . Whole weekend ruined. Calling WIP, as we speak prolly

She literally said all day nothing agreed or imminent

You guys need to separate cash vs cap. They aren’t the same. They have to pay Brown around $27M in an option bonus before Week 1 if he’s on the team. I know Hurts is around $30M. Dickerson is $15M. You can look at every top paid guy and it’s likely more than a $10M bonus they get on top of their base salary. And there’s the Jalen Carter contract looming. On top of Jordan Davis just getting $19M in a signing bonus.

Trading him now vs post June 1st isn’t relevant for cash. It’s are they going to have to pay Brown almost $27M if he’s on the team and can they afford in their budget everyone else plus what Goedert is going to want in a signing bonus. So when he says they can’t afford both, that is likely what he’s referring to.

At this point I think she’s happy to keep everybody on the hook indefinitely. Pushing out narratives planted by agents or FOs doesn’t quite feel like actual reporting, just manipulation.

The idiots on twitter are taking Girafolago speaking gibberish as news that is true.

My post did separate cash and cap. Garafolo was saying they can't afford both. For one, I don't buy that even if it was cash. If that was the case and this was all about cash then they'd just let Goedert leave and draft a TE.

But even if it were true, the context in which he framed it doesn't make sense. He seemed to imply that they pushed Goedert's date back to give more time to possibly find a taker for AJ Brown because they can't afford to keep them both. Otherwise they'd just let Goedert walk. If he was talking about cash then they would just find a taker for AJ Brown in June if that's the route they wanted to go. Needing to let one of them go in the next 3 days does not benefit the Eagles cash wise and it hurts them cap wise. They don't save anything cash wise doing it before June. The Eagles owe AJ Brown over 100m in cash whether they trade him now or trade him in June. That number doesn't change.

Why would you not buy that the cash aspect? The way Howie structures his contracts is a ton of cash through bonuses paid upfront. He still has a limit. They can’t just give out $300M or whatever in cash every year.

I’m not saying it’s all about cash. You obviously have to factor in cap ramifications too. If they planned on keeping Brown I’m sure they would let Goedert walk, draft a rookie and pay Brown his cash.

I think the obvious is Howie doesn’t want to lose both Brown and Goedert in one offseason. He’s working the trade now because he knows if he has to wait until June 1, you lose leverage with what shakes out in the draft and with other trades or FA moves. From the sounds of it, talks are done unless Patriots (or Rams if legitimate) blink before Monday and pay the hefty price Howie thinks is worth the cap hit. I would think he wants clarity on the Brown situation because he doesn’t want to be stuck with paying Goedert on Monday or any previous day and hoping he can complete a fair trade in June for Brown.

Well Garafolo seems to be the only one saying that. McLane, Schefter, others have not said anything about "They can’t bring both these guys back.” I don’t think there is some mandate to where Brown and Goedert can’t be on the roster the same year. Because I think it’s perfectly possible if not likely that Brown is on the roster on opening day and if they do get rid of Goedert then by all accounts they are probably going to pivot to another TE like Njoku. And still are in on Greenard. So it seems a little random that with all these other players they’d be interested in, they randomly draw the line at Dallas Goedert.

I don’t think nationals reporters are in the weeds enough to get into the cash aspect of deals, I think Garafolo likely misspoke because the whole cap stuff regarding Brown and Goedert are confusing. I think if cash was their biggest issue they just wouldn’t have signed Woolen/Jones/Ebiketie, etc. I think if cash was that big of an issue they’d have approached this offseason a lot differently. I think Goedert is about value of his contract and AJ Brown is "we’ll move him if we get an offer worth it” and it’s not much more complicated than that. I don’t believe the Goedert and Brown situation are linked at all.

NYT subscriber for 40 years, Athletic is a nice perk.

PHLY I've thought about, but I hate the automatic renewal.

If the Eagles re-sign Goedert by Monday then I think it all but confirms this wasn't a cash thing. Because if the Eagles truly couldn't afford to keep both of them in terms of cash, then the Eagles would simply not re-sign Goedert. If they did re-sign Goedert, then they'd be forced to trade AJ Brown and what if the best offer they get in June is like a 3rd? Then they'd be forced to trade him for pennies on the dollar. There's no way they could justify making that kinda trade. They have no control over what the offers would be in June. So if this was about cash then they're going to let Goedert go on Monday and then basically do nothing until the draft. To which I would be pretty surprised at based on the reporting and buzz out there at the moment(though livid if it did go down that way).

If Monday comes and the Eagles just let him walk, then I think it gives a lot more credence to this being about cash. And even then they wouldn't pivot to another TE.
