Thanks. Kind of shocking to see him playing so early. HNP with sciatica sure suggests a fusion. Wonder which procedure as it would appear it was a successful fusion.

It definitely wasn't a fusion. He wouldn't be back. He had a minimally invasive discectomy.

I would say it is 75% the Eagles go OL in the first round, 20% edge and 5% some other position. They will have to replace 3/5 of the OL in the next year or two and 4/5 if they let Steen walk. Steen becomes an under the radar guy they should extend.

75% is a little high. I’d say it’s more like 40% OL 40% WR 10% edge rusher

Chris Bell tore his ACL in early December. Will Howie take the chance in 2nd or 3rd round for him?

I haven't watched him play, but do you think he's the kind of talent you draft in round 2 or 3 content for a red shirt year or a very late start? I thought that was usually reserve for first round talents.

Based on free agency and lack of true starters here, Howie will target EMW and he will get to team up with Q in the secondary. Makes too much sense with team needs. The fact that Howie hasn't drafted safety number 1 is not a valid reason to dismiss this. Howie will be zigging and throw everyone off here.

FWIW, knee surgery and broken bones are very different in the nfl from back injuries. Fractures, ACLs, and achilles injuries are so common that they have standardized recovery pathways on absolute autopilot.

Spine problems are much more amorphous. It ranges from transient radiculopathy/sciatica that will resolve faster and more effectively than a hamstring strain...all the way to immediately career ending. Not only is it harder for fans to know the difference, it's harder for team docs to know the difference and prognosticate. This creates a far bigger delta on insurance, contracts, guarantees, and trade value than leg injuries. So both players and teams try to control the narrative. We just hear "neck surgery" or "back procedure." Not many players in league history of returned to a high level after lumbar fusions. Cervical fusions is a longer, but limited list. Lumbar discectomies is a longer list still. But it never goes public exactly what was done.

Which draft decision would shock you more?

A. Drafting a safety in the 1st round

B. Not drafting an Edge player at all

C. Not drafting an OT at all

D. Not drafting a TE at all

Here's where we stand on the roster, in my opinion, as of today on the remaining roster holes:

Edge - to me, this is the place most likely to see an impact add via trade. Greenard is the name mentioned most often, and I'm surprised it hasn't happened. Smith, Hunt and Ebeketie isn't nearly enough given Smith's trouble staying healthy. I know BG wants to play, but he's not someone to count on. If you want to go FA, then Reddick, Clowney, J. Bosa, Floyd, Fowler all still out there. I just don't think Howie jumps on any of those options given age and wear and tear, but maybe Fowler or Clowney makes sense.

Safety - I know @T-1000 will have a stroke, but I think Vic likes Carter at safety. Mukuba, Carter and Epps isn't really inspiring, but I also don't really see great options via trade or FA. Not sure if Bates is really available.

Interior O-Line: With Toth leaving, I don't know if we are OK with Kendall and Lampkin as the primary backups - hell, I don't know if either can play guard. Need to add one or 2 guys here. Does Bitonio want to chase a ring? Is Becton really back to all his bad habits?

No chance

Dang that's even cheaper than I thought. I figured he would get 2-3 million with a lot more guaranteed.

That's about as bare bones as it gets. Shows the rest of the league had zero interest. This team still needs two decent safeties.

It seems clear that they will target a safety early in the draft.

Isn't it crazy how when the Eagles were dominating with the tush push the league as concerned about "safety" and then when they weren't as good at it the concern for "safety" just went away. HMMMMM.......

I am going with D. I can see them drafting a OG instead of OT. It's arguably a position of greater need. They may also trade for an Edge player. I can't see how they could pass on the TE position given that Goedert looks like he will be gone and Calcaterra is not playable as a blocker.

Unfortunately, the safety concerns were against themselves. As they all became injured last year. I think they should scrap it mostly and just use it as a decoy. Sirianni got drunk with this play and it clouded his whole vision. They thought they were psyching out the other team with this play but the league will always find a way to catch up to it. And the refs called it tighter. On top of it I'm against using QB 1 as a battering ram.

It’s B by a landslide. We will always draft an edge player. The last time we didn’t was 2011 when we weirdly drafted 3 off ball linebackers (and that draft probably cost Andy his job)

In that time we’ve had 7 drafts where we didn’t draft a OT. I don’t think Lane’s career being close to over will force Howie to do something he doesn’t have to do

I’m going with D as we’ve kicked that can way down the road to this point and it’s a good TE draft with talent on each day and of different types.

C is going to be rough if we are looking for Lane’s replacement and a QB next offseason - but this class is a bit shaky up front and gets thin quick beyond that.

Edge and Safety are the only two positions on defense I see them even considering on day one or two. I am expecting a VERY offense heavy draft with the exception that those two positions will be addressed, possibly early.

I was opposed to extending Cam early. May have been Howie's worst move last off-season, especially with the injury that he had. And it's not like he got signed for a hometown discount. There was no rush here with other pressing needs on team. Got top center money. He overwaited on MW and then gives this guy who's damaged goods the loot a year early. Then signs Barkley to an unforced extension after just 1 year. Dumb! That's why we were tight last offseason while you could have paid one of Sweat or MW. And kept Rodgers & Becton. Grossly mispressed the buttons there. He's been chasing his tail since.

@vikas83 Did either the Barkley or Jurgens extensions negatively affect the Eagles 2025 Cap? I don't think they did.......but wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong lol

I don't think enough is made of what type of OL we want. Over the years:

AR seemed to favor asymmetric offensive lines. The left side was finesse, all about pass protection and keeping the QB clean. The right side was bigger, more physical road graders who often had some deficits with quickness.

In the Stoutland era, they had big, explosive, RAS type linemen. It's not that pass protection was poor, but blowing open holes was a priority for one of the most run-heavy offenses in the NFL.

I'm not sure they are trying to re-create an offense that is going to run the ball 30 times per game. Kadyn Proctor felt like a dream fit for our old offense with Stoutland. 6'7" 350lb bulldozer with surprising mobility...but raw, inconsistent. Perfect fit. Without Stoutland and without a run at all costs approach on offense...is that really what they want for an OT?

I got the impression we're doing the full Shanahan system
