That's in 2029 and 2030 when the salaries switched to option bonuses. Has no impact on his 2026 cap number. He just agreed to get the money later.

I just remembered seeing cap space being the motivation behind it. Whether it was 2026 or beyond, but it seems like the motivation to do it was indeed cap space and flexibility. Even if not until the future. I don't think they are trading him though.

Which scenario would infuriate you more?

  1. Giving up our 2nd round pick and more to trade up for Monroe Freeling

  2. Drafting Ty Simpson at 23

  3. Drafting a mediocre OT prospect at 23 with 1 of the few true 1st round talents in this draft still on the board

All 3.

Dang, the worst pic of him ever. 🤣

They have met with the following safeties this year:

S Duce Chestnut (Syracuse) -- Eagles Local Pro Day
S Jalon Kilgore (South Carolina) -- Official Visit
S Emmanuel McNeil Warren (Toledo) -- Indy Combine (meeting)

S Michael Taaffe (Texas) -- Indy Combine (meeting)

McNeil-Warren is likely a 1st round pick that could be available at 23. Kilgore is likely a day 2 pick but tested well. Taaffe is a day 3 pick and Chestnut is a UDFA.

This was who they met with last year before the draft:

S BJ Adams (UCF) -- Senior Bowl
S C.J. Brown (Kutztown) -- Met during Pro Day
S Alijah Clark (Syracuse) -- Eagles Local Pro Day
S Shaquan Loyal (Rutgers) -- Eagles Local Pro Day
S Donovan McMillon (Pittsburgh) -- East-West Shrine Bowl, Hula Bowl
S Malachi Moore (Alabama) -- Indy Combine (formal meeting)
S Andrew Mukuba (Texas) -- Indy Combine (meeting)
S J.J. Roberts (Marshall) -- Met during Pro Day
S Jaylen Reed (Penn State) -- Official Visit
S Trey Rucker (Oklahoma State) -- Senior Bowl
S Malaki Starks (Georgia) -- Official Visit
S Major Williams (Carson-Newman) -- TBD

This was 2024:

S Cole Bishop (Utah) -- Senior Bowl, Joe Kasper at Utah's Pro Day
S Kamren Kinchens (Miami, FL) -- Senior Bowl
S Tyler Nubin (Minnesota) -- Indy Combine (formal)
S Sione Vaki (Utah) -- Indy Combine (formal), Joe Kasper at Utah's Pro Day

This was 2023:

S Brian Branch (Alabama) -- Official Visit
S Sydney Brown (Illinois) -- Senior Bowl,
S Alex Cook (Washington) -- Hula Bowl
S Antonio Johnson (Texas A&M) -- Indy Combine
S Brandon Joseph (Notre Dame) -- Indy Combine

S Jason Taylor II (Oklahoma State) -- Official Visit

The Eagles are meeting players they have a substantial interest in drafting. I don't think they would pass on either Kilgore or McNeill-Warren if they have them as their BPA. I think the number of players scouted in 2025 points to their belief that Reed would leave this season and having an immediate need. It was also a deep class for safety prospects. There were 19 safeties drafted. There were 7 taken in the top 100 picks. It's interesting to me that out of the 12 safeties the Eagles reportedly met with, only 4 were drafted. It makes sense that they met with a ton of prospects. In 2024, they scouted day 2 players in Bishop, Nubin and Kinchens. They made the smart trade up for Cooper. They drafted Brown in 2023. Brown was pick 66 and Branch was pick 45. Antonio Johnson was a 5th round pick and Taylor was a 7th. Joseph and Cook were UDFAs. Signing Carter isn't necessarily a stop-gap for a draft pick but it doesn't preclude them drafting a potential starter.

Well, yeah, they’re creating a draft board so they’re going to meet with players at every position to varying degrees to get as complete of a scouting report as able.

If Caleb Downs fell, I think they’d take him. But I don’t believe they’ll take any other safety in round 1. I don’t believe they’ll see the cost benefit of it.

I don’t think the Eagles deviate from BPA. Now they have changed trajectory on first and second round picks recently, where the selections played earlier. Factoring that into play, an Edge selection and a S selection in the first three picks wouldn’t surprise me.

BTW, sad to see the Huskers went down as did my Coogs last night.

BPA is largely a myth unless it’s a player alone at the top in a tier by himself.

Finally seeing Stribling get some recognition. Saw TampaTrev draft him in round 3 of a mock today. Feels very slept on but the internet is starting to come around.

Not much not to like. But I dont see anything that screams 1st round value. Hes average 6 ft tall. Short arms.

Hes fast, but not 4.3 fast.

He has somewhat questionable hands. 11% drop rate.

Hes a 2nd rounder in pretty much every draft. Most of these 1st round WRs are.

He might be a top of the second round WR most years, but this draft is missing a good top 10 anyway so our pick is like a bottom of the round first. I don’t think the OL, WRs, safeties, edges, etc are guys who would normally go 23 in a draft.

I would argue that the safeties and edges definitely are.

These guys are incredibly high on Concepcion

Gonna start compiling these lists for each round. Guys I'd love. Guys I'd like/be content with. Guys I'd dislike. Guys I'd hate.

Guys I'd love(either at 23 or realistic trade up):

Vega Ioane

Rueben Bain Jr(trade up if he fell into the teens)

Guys I'd like/be content with:

(Like)

Jordyn Tyson

Cashius Howell

TJ Parker

Monroe Freeling

(Content)

Kadyn Proctor - wouldn't love it, but would accept it given his upside

Max Iheanachor - same as above, but less so because 23 seems early for him, yet 54 would be late for him probably.

Avieon Terrell - not really an immediate need, but I think he's really good and couldn't get mad and taking a guy who gives you the best CB group in the NFL by far for years to come. I'd be content, but not in love with the pick.

Jermod McCoy - same as above. A tier below the like, I'd be content.

Guys I'd dislike:

Emmanuel McNeil-Warren - he's really good, but I just can't justify safety round 1. Wouldn't hate it, but would be disappointed.

Kenyon Sadiq - same as above. Really good, but can't justify a TE round 1 especially when he wouldn't play that much barring injury.

KC Concepcion - talented, but doesn't have WR1 potential and I'm flatly against taking WRs in round 1 without WR1 potential. You can find WRs in other rounds who can be guys who produce for you.

Makai Lemon - same as above.

Omar Cooper Jr - same as above.

Akheem Mesidor - can't justify taking a 25 year old as a rookie, I'm sorry. As productive as he is.

Keldrick Faulk - something about this guy I don't like or trust. Reminds me of Shemarr Stewart. Has athletic tools, but doesn't produce and doesn't look overwhelming enough as an athlete to use a 1st on. Pass.

Guys I'd hate:

Blake Miller - low upside, mid tier NFL OT. He'll be in the league for 7-10 years, but be not special in every one of those years. Hard pass, wasted pick.

Caleb Lumo - same as above.

Spencer Fano - putting this here because this would be a mega trade up, and I don't think this dude will be that good, let alone trading up for him which would likely cost a 2nd to move up high enough. But some beat guys have said trading up for an OT wouldn't surprise them, which to me would be insane in this OT class, but nonetheless, I've been dreading it. Dillard trade-up vibes.

Eagles met with this guy. Another great athlete at DT.

Btw speaking of WRs. A LOT of busts at that position in the last decade.

Packers are bringing in Ted Hurst for a top 30 visit. Packers types should be our types on offense.

Also, a guy with his size and ability is why I have a hard time getting excited for the smaller quick slot or inside/outside guys in this class with average size. In the 2nd round you can have Hurts or Bryce Lance, or Fields who are all possible Xs. So Id wait a bit on the Concepcion, Bernard types.

I think the eagles have generally tried to fill that position through free agency with Hollywood, and Moore. So they can look to a potential outside/AJ Brown replacement.

Pretty much every contract allows a team to convert salary to a bonus automatically, so they likely didn't NEED to do anything to get that.

The Browns get to keep some liquidity for now since they don't have to pay him until September - 5+ months of interest at least. But Garrett giving that up for nothing in return? That makes no sense. It only makes sense if they want flexibility to consider trade offers.

An athletic guard that a bunch of teams had with a sub 5 40.

That pic makes you question which one of them was there for charity and which one was there to compete.
