I'd rather Hunt start opposite of Greenard than Nolan.

Mexico getting the penalty, playing for 40+(including 11 minutes of stoppage) minutes against England down to 10, deserved to lose the game. Also, the offensive strategy of chipping or whipping crosses from the wing against a team that had a clear height advantage was just dumb. It was such an idiotic approach that I am pretty sure Kevin Patullo must be a consultant for the team. Kudos to England for the win. I have no sympathy for Mexico

Either LeBron is planning on setting Cleveland's hopes up again only to rugby pull them and announce another team or he is going back to Cleveland.

If only you knew what this crackpot Govt want to do with Social Media and the YoutTube algo. But that is politics and not for the blog.

No, Shepherds Pie is traditionally made with Lamb Mince - hence the name. Cottage Pie is the Beef version, but people use the Shepherds Pie name somewhat interchangeably

I'm sure this was very funny, but that site is blocked in the UK.

BTW, I had some entertainment over the weekend. Ron DeSantis decided to troll us on X and got community noted over WW2, it seems the war of 1812 isn't taught in American schools anymore and seeing all the fireworks displays and stuff - a decent spectacle. Glad you all enjoyed it.

Descend from an ancestor that fought in the war defending the Northwest Territories. Arguably, the U.S. lost that war but the economic impact of the Napoleonic War and the Peninsula War allowed the negotiation of what was in essence a draw where territories returned to their prewar state. I would argue the only real losers in that war were the native Americans (First Nations) who lost a strategic ally, emboldened westward expansion with little regard to indigenous claims. Folks really poorly understand how much tribal displacement impacted existing boundaries between tribes in the process.

If I were Belgium I'd be appealing directly to Trump to determine if Balogun is even a US Resident. According to Trump and friends he shouldn't be. Unless his mother or father is the longest living slave in US history.

It was. They played into England's natural strengths nicely -Dan Burn is 6'7 and they did a nice job of feeding him the ball. No wonder the manager resigned straight after. They needed to stretch England out of the low block

Could have been a force of habit. What other time does Mexico not have a height advantage?

I wasn't aware of that aspect until a debate spawned on X about it -we're far more focused in Europe on the locality of the Napoleonic Wars., so 1812 doesn't really get mentioned.

Canadiens are probably more aware of that war than most Americans (probably less than 25% of us can identify the first declared war under the Constitution and think it was the War of 1812). What’s never noted in our history books is that the Treaty of Ghent really failed to address the grievances put forth to Congress by Madison that led to Congress declaring war. But one thing the Treaty of Ghent did do was cement Canada as sovereign and not subject to further intrusion by the U.S. Same provisions cemented the Northwest Territories as sovereign to the U.S.

Oof

This whole thing is so dumb. It is obvious a red card shouldn't have been issued, and the VAR review as done improperly. Balogun is a nice player, but he's not Ronaldo (who got his own 3 game suspension tolled and the Euro trash didn't cry). The appeal process makes no sense, but we landed in the fair outcome.

Plus, this:

It shouldn't have been a red card.

But once it is given - you cant have a political leader of a host nation ring up the FIFA president to get it reversed.

Disagree. Whatever it takes to get the right call is fine by me.

Me? Trump is too fat, old, low IQ, and merging onto the dementia highway to break anything besides french fries. However, I could change my mind after I learn more about his conversation with AI Theodore Roosevelt about the Panama Canal. He and Biden should be roomies at a memory care community.
