Love having Ertz back

What is your suggestion as an alternative?

I don't see this as a bad thing. Ertz is nothing special at this point... he's likely Chad Lewis. But, you know... Chad was pretty good at what he was good at. Just find the soft spot in the zone... move the chains. That's all they need. His hands are as good as they ever were. His wheels are likely trash... but that's ok. And he costs peanuts, I'm sure.

I mean you can't go into games with Mundt as TE#1 - a guy who is purely a role player as a blocker. 172 yards is his career season high

Jurgens will cut himself (likely with bad play or not holding up) soon and land himself on IR, like Dickerson. These guys sacrificed their bodies for a superbowl and are to be commended for that. However, both had major red flags in regards to different injuries since College and you could guess that they would have short shelf lives. I don't see his back ever being good enough to be the old CJ. What ya see is what you get! Don't think Eagles will be as patient this year playing injured corpses. Mannion's offense will never get off the ground fully till they figure LG out. I think I do like Kendall at Center. We should put a young guy like that in his most familiar and dominant spot. Makes sense. But it sucks to suck at LG still. But it does say alot, that Jurgens is likely not the future at Center. And I can't see him being the future at LG. Placeholder for now....as we suffer. Internal options are Lampkin, Majors and Morris. Probably in that order, I would start the auditions until someone snatches it. Fred Johnson also an option, but would like to develop a younger player for next year.

Ertz is good for Stowers as a mentor as well. This was a no brainer from Day 1. Shouldn't have taken this long.

Ertz is 11 receptions away from beating out Carmichael as the Eagles all time receptions leader fwiw. Carmichael has about 2700 more yards with those receptions though so that ain't happening. He's got a shot at vaulting Quick and Jackson in yards though.

Julie Ertz is only 34, wow figure she’d be older. That means she was like 25/26 in Super Bowl 52. Thought she was in her 30s back then.

I think we can get one more run out of him , he emphatically stated the other day he’s going to get better and I believe him…idk why, but it feels different with him than Landon.

86 avail?

Just got back from Nashville. Let me start with this - hot doesn't really describe how unbelievably brutal it was. The sun was destroying everyone most of the game (some clouds showed up for a brief part of the 2nd half), and the field being turf...I've never been that hot. Everyone was sweating through their clothes in the stands, so I can't even imagine playing a game in that. Having a turf field in that weather is stupid.

A win is a win, but...

OFFENSE

  • Jalen won us this game, full stop. For most of the game he was in complete control, and we seemed to convert every 3rd and long (11/18 overall, and felt like a bunch of 3rd an 7+). The first drive, right to the end, he was surgical. After the 1st 3 drives, I didn't think we could be stopped - and then the 3rd quarter happened. I'll defer to other who watched on TV about what happened in Q3 (Goedert out seemed to hurt), and one of the drives was ruined by penalties. Then in Q4, he went back to carving them up.

    • I have no clue what he was doing on the 1st interception - even if Hooker didn't jump the route, looked like the CB might have picked it. Didn't look like anyone else was open, but you gotta throw that away and take the 3 points, 10 point swing.

    • When he let it go on the 2nd one, I thought it was a TD as you could see Smith wide open. But Jurgens whiffed and Hurts got killed. Hard to put that on Jalen.

    • The last drive...my word. The throw to Smith to get inside the 5 was the highlight, but him avoiding the sack and throwing the ball away (Mailata was held to create the free rusher) saved the day.

  • Barkley going out didn't help, but we might be the worst rushing team in the NFL (OK, other than the Packers, which is concerning given where Mannion coached before). Kendall seemed OK, but Jurgens was a problem and Steen just isn't a great run blocker. We also are once again so in love with condensed formations that we stack the box. The end arounds to Hollywood actually worked - we need more misdirection if we are going to run out of stacked formations. Absurd we went from a generational rushing offense to garbage this quickly - if this isn't fixed, we are screwed.

  • Smith is amazing, but man WIcks has been a very pleasant surprise. On track for 1,250 yards (which won't happen), but nice to see him seizing the WR2 spot.

  • The WR3 spot, however...we gotta stop with the gadget plays and screens for Lemon. If he's not ready to be a real WR3, play Cooper.

  • Disappointed in Mundt's blocking, and we need to sign Ertz ASAP as a receiving TE with Goedert out for a bit

DEFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Feels like we get pressure but just don't finish - nice to see Nolan and JC get sacks, but we should be better. Greenard will help.

    • side note, what does Carter need to do to get a holding call?

  • Felt like we missed a TON of tackles

  • Campbell didn't have a good day. Got beat in coverage, and that's supposed to be his strength.

  • Just odd - held then under 300 yards and 20 points (7 off a near pick 6), but felt like the defense couldn't buy a stop in the 2nd half. They did force 2 punts in the 2nd half, but the 3rd and long conversions surrendered were brutal

    • 3rd and 13 on their FG drive before the half, we give up 28

    • The 3rd and 22...

  • 2 games, no turnovers...

  • Jake from 58????????

I was there too, Vikas. It was absolutely brutal. Top 10 hottest experiences of my life and I’m pretty damn used to the heat. If that F’ing game had gone into overtime I’m not sure I would’ve survived.

Yup. Well... Xavier Gipson has it on the PS... but something tells me, he won't be holding it for long. He might be the unfortunate one to get the axe.

Ertz last year could still find a seam or a soft spot in the zone and make a clutch catch. He offers nothing after the catch or blocking. But he's a serviceable pass catching TE to pair with Mundt until we can get Goedert back. I think Stowers is a total wash for this year unfortunately.

In a scheme this dependent on 12 personnel and play action to the tight end, it's criminal with how little there is behind Goedert knowing he's good to miss 4-6 games. With Stowers doing nothing, there is no pass catching TE behind Goedert. Ertz can be that move TE and is the best one available. I really don't expect more than 3-5 targets a game, but the scheme needs someone in that role. Still expect Mundt to remain the in-line TE.

I’m in the minority but I believe Jurgens and Dickerson will bounce back. Maybe not all -pro level but I don’t believe either one of them is close to finished. Time will tell I guess.

Just sitting there to had to wear you out and make you lethargic. If I go on a hike in Zion when it's above 85 and the red rocks are 100+ with the sun beating down I'm absolutely done by the end and I'm just walking. I have no idea how they did that yesterday.

That's why I said earlier it impresses the crap out of me that Hurts was able to play for four quarters and make those throws. You can't give him enough credit for that.

Am I the only who loves the Barkley is a great teammate? Always happy for teammates, including most importantly the other RB’s.

So... he tweaked his hamstring and had to be carted off the field?

Carmichael is one of my favorite Eagles of all time. He played like a wr. I’m not surprised that his receiving yards are that far ahead of Ertz with similar number of catches. He was a great one.

EDIT: Forgive my lack of knowledge regarding his career, I didn't realize he moved from TE to WR early in his pro career, still a great player.
