There is going to be changes.  It all starts tomorrow.

The biggest culprit is Howie and his talent evaluation staff. Another year of wild swings, like the last few drafts, and it will take a long time to recover. No team can overcome mass injuries AND so many wasted/missed picks.

We are on exactly the same page on that one buddy.

His defensive scheme kills his DBs. He may have some positives, but also some glaring weaknesses that leave him overall as a middle of the road DC.

Yes it focuses on shutting down RBS and taking away the easy passes. It does put pressure on DBs. But the simple fact is that the one time Schwartz had good (not great) talent on the D here he produced a top 5 Suoer Bowl winning D. The talent is the main issue and not the scheme.

I'd agree with this to some extent. But when you lack talent at certain key spots shouldn't you tweak your scheme to help those areas out more? Like if you know Maddox is freaking bad on the outside who not move him inside? Or at the very least give him some support over there?

They did give Maddox help at times, but you’re right he sucks on the outside. The problem is that your talent is lacking so much you pretty much have no other options.

They should have at least kept Jenkins another year and left Mills at CB if they were not going to invest further.

That was on Howie though. Firstly for drafting so badly and secondly for cutting both Jones and Douglas. I think both would have been a better option opposite Slay this year.

Now I agree that's not necessarily Schwartz fault but he surely could have given Maddox more help?

And that super bowl winning D gave up 33 points.

It’s no coincidence that they have tried so many players at corner, and none have worked out. Now you look at Douglas who is playing well as a starting CB elsewhere.

Hell, Ronald Darby was garbage here, now he actually had a really good season in Washington. In 15 games Darby has given up an average of 45 yards per game (only once has allowed 100+ yards) and has given up just one TD this year.

Yeah agreed on Douglas and Jones. Neither great options but I think both would have been better than any outside option other than Slay.

Maddox - I think he was helped a lot of the time. He’s just really bad on the outside.

Jim scheme is a DB/LB killer to be honest. Its all about Dline pressure instantly for success. I do like Jims scheme for run defense, but hate it against the pass.  I never liked Jim and have been waiting for this for a while. Yes we can do worse, but we can do better as well. Just have to hope they hire the right coach for the job. I do agree that coach can not be an internal candidate.

I always liked Douglas, just the wrong scheme for him. Hes a cover 2 outside corner which is the worst type of corner for Jim's scheme. Now really not many corners are good for his scheme to have great success but Douglas was not even close. I think Douglas has very good tackling skills, an eye for the ball and good on reaction time. His issue is and always will be man coverage. Hes a zone guy and best fit is a soft zone for him.

Jones however i just think they never really gave the kid a shot. They would move him all over the place, never getting comfortable in a position. He is a outside corner. hes needs those sidelines to be a helper he can count on. Hes not that agile, loose in the hips kind of guy that can cut, react either way which make the slot not the best choice for him. Now Maddox the slot is his natural position yet they never really let him stay there and moved him out of position to the outside. Jim's choices just make no common football sense at times. DB is all about confidence and Jones had zero with how much Jim put him on, took him off, benching here and there, moving from outside to slot etc. When you dont have that confidence in your coach, it breaks you down as a DB.

All I can say is both Douglas and Darby performed as legitimate starting CBS this year, yet neither looked good in Schwartz defense.

The D sucked in the Super Bowl. It happens. But we don’t get there without the D.

Even including those 33 points Schwartz averages giving up 17 points in the playoffs. That’s great.

Darby was really good for us in 2017. He just couldn’t stay healthy after that. He’s a good corner when healthy.

Schwartz did what he could with the talents he had.  The current DBs lack top quality.  He likes Mills more on his tenacity than talent.  When you are limited on skills, efforts and will to fight count a lot more.

This team has a history of going light on LB, but heavy on DL.  The DL has been solid, but the key players are reaching or past peak now.  Need to infuse some young bloods.  That unfortunately will take some of picks and resources away for the upgrade of DB and LB.

Schwartz last through his contract and won a SB with the team.  Can't say it was a wasted period.  If he wants to take a year off, it is his right.  Given the poor performance of the team, it won't be a good year to get a new gig anyway.  Get some rest, recharge, then see what opportunities are there after next season.

So we have lacked talent on the dline? Id say thats not true, we have had one of the most money put into his bread and butter Dline since hes been here. DBs and LBs can only do so much, esp when every team knows the 4 plays you run all game and that there is no variation to the coverage. That also hurts your dline as the QB knows if they get the ball out quick(which they can since they know the DBs coverage) the dline wont get a chance at making a big play.

So what has been reported so far...

Doug is likely to remain as HC.

Lurie hasn't even contemplated firing Howie.

Schwartz contract is up and he's decided he doesn't want to stay. That he may retire or he may take a year out.

So where is the accountability for this utter ish show of a year? Where we will finish last in the worst division in nfl history? A season where a lot of people thought we were best placed to win the division? Given we had a returning HC and QB... In a covid year.

They've been blaming injuries and COVID-19 all season. Even when reporters point out every team dealt with Covid.

But imagine one of those opposite Slay with a bit of help. Both are, in my opinion, better outside options than Maddox. Slay could have shadowed the #1 WR and let Douglas or Jones, with help, cover the other side.

Yep no arguments from me.

You know how I felt with the Eagles not taking a defensive player  in the first two rounds. But if they weren't going to do that, they should have kept Jenkins for another year and kept one if not both of Jones and Douglas. Mills could have been 3rd safety and back up at both safety and corner.

Micromanaging in a passive-aggressive way seems to be the new vibe inside the front office.

We haven't learned that module yet.

I'd agree with that. Mind you, I don't think they'll end up going defense in the first round this year either. They may do but I'm not so sure they will.

They could go WR this year. In 2017 when the team took Derek Barnett at 14th overall, they were interested in all 3 WRs that ultimately went into the top 10: Corey Davis, Mike Williams, and John Ross. Now that they are guaranteed a top 10 pick no matter what, they may elect to just take whoever is left from Chase, Smith, or Waddle.

WR is still a big need despite the Reagor selection and late round flyers on Hightower and Watkins. Alshon, DJax, and JJAW should be gone next year, opening up room for the young guys to compete.

The dline is the only unit with any talent outside of slay and McLeod... slay and McLeod are both free agents, graham and Cox were drafted before howie.

Howie Roseman is the problem. He can’t draft talent.
