Even more broadly, ESPN’s whole reason for being was to show you all the plays that you missed the night before.

And their draft experts were some of the only opinions the average Joe got from people who got a watch so much film and see so many games all over the country.

Now, the Internet gives you all of that and more. ESPN is a ship in the ocean without a rudder.

No, have to imagine he fell because he's only 220 lbs and some people aren't sure what position/role best suits him in the NFL. After Simmons had a horrible rookie year that probably didn't help.

Watching his tape, I flagged him for not knowing what to do when the ball is in the air. He also can't play with his back to the QB. I don't want to see more of that issue in this secondary. He's a big athletic guy, though, who has upside. I just don't like him as much as others available. 

 

He'd be best in pure cover 3.

Ok.  So, let me say it this way, I think a strong case can be made that it wasn't the failure that you do.  Parsons is a very good player and they got another top 100 pick in the process.  Hard to argue it was a mistake from a position of certainty.

Not having a combine this year likely hurt him as well, imo.  Although teams use tape more than anything else to analyze players, a hybrid type player like JOK would have been a top pick if he had great metrics at the combine, imo.   Having an off-season full of players running 4.3's at their pro-days likely hurt him as well since most teams wouldn't take those metrics as seriously as a result, imo.

I've been thinking about the expectations of a second round pick. The excitement is always high, but I believe the reality tends to be a lot more sobering. I just went through about the last forty drafts and made a list of second round picks which were definite "hits". And I only came up with ten, which includes Goedert and Sanders, both of whom objectively may not actually belong there...yet. It would be Cunningham, Ertz, Dawkins, B Taylor, E Allen, Hopkins, D Jackson, L McCoy, as well as Goedert and Sanders.

On the other hand, here are some of the other guys the Eagles have drafted in round two. Perry Harrington. Siran Stacy. Lawrence Sampleton. Dean Miraldi. Alonzo Johnson. Jessie Small. Mike Bellamy. Jesse Campbell. Bruce Walker (so bad he was cut before playing a single game). James Darling. Barry Gardner. Quinton Caver. Matt McCoy. Jaiquawn Jarrett. And even Sidney Jones, if you want to count him.

There were about a dozen other guys who sort of fell between those tiers. Guys who played and were okay. Mychal Kendricks would be closer to the top tier. Eric Rowe would be closer to the bottom tier.

So, you could argue then that, "well, this proves that the Eagles suck at drafting!" But I don't think that's fair to say since, after all, over this time period the Eagles have been a plus .500 team. And the sample size seems large enough to make the point. And that is that round two, for all the excitement it brings, often doesn't yield the results you want.

So I guess my greater point is that we really shouldn't obsess so much about what position the player picked actually plays. Let's just hope that the guy they pick can actually play. That's really all that matters. 

Still looking for even more picks in 2022.

With the extra players, I can even see the fourth round next year as a sweet spot for day-two talent.

His tape is better than Eric Stokes.  He went to high school with Patrick Surtain Jr. and was coached by Patrick Surtain.  He’s a 5-star recruit, who didn’t go in the 1st round because of perceived lack of production, he only had one INT in 3 college seasons.

Ball skills can be taught in the pros.  Campbell is 6’2 with length and runs a 4.39 — if he’s still on the board at #37 he would be an excellent pick.

I am (strongly) of the mind that more than anything, I want my team to come out of the draft with players they genuinely love  

I care more about getting "value” when either there are multiple good options that you know you’ll still have available or if there’s really nobody that stands out to you. 

I love what both the birds and turds did in the draft so far for all of the above.

Or better yet, pretty sure his dad has been teaching him (from a young age) how to read a QB/offensive scheme and cut in on routes to get those picks!  (The Asante Samuel special). Miss those days.

If it is something medically related, I'm pretty sure Howie will do his own due-diligence before passing on him.  I highly doubt Howie would let another DK Metcalf situation slip away without being 100% certain that the medical issue could be an issue.   Basically, a doctor would need to tell Howie to his face not to pick him...and even then, I could  see Howie getting 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions.
