Anyone got a bad feeling the Eagles will draft a QB in the first round?

Given the importance this organization under Howie and Lurie place in the position? Yeah I think there's a good chance. I think they will look at 4 QBs. Those being Lawrence, Fields, Wilson and Lance. One of those will be there for them at #6. So it just depends how much they like the guy(s) left.

Hurts gives them almost the ideal situation. He's good enough that they don't need to pull the trigger this year if they don't love one of these guys. But he's not good enough to stop going for one if they do.

Howie has a photoshopped Fathead with Hurts' face on Russell Wilson's body on his wall....it would be downright shocking for him to take a QB.

To be fair we had a 5th year option on Wentz and threw him a huge extension instead so I'm more worried about the evaluation being rigorous enough than having an extra year of rookie deal.

Oh, you definitely might be right about that.  But it's used as a reason to move up to the first, sometimes.  It was apparently the reason the Ravens moved the first to get Lamar Jackson.

I'd also say that I'd be much less worried about the Eagles moving up to 1/32 to take Kyle Trask than taking some random guy at QB with the #6 pick.

Leaving the Florida Gators connection aside,  I'd roll with Hurts.

The Eagles (provided they can get the required cap room, and even if they don't)  have a lot of good choices for an additional QB to pair with Hurts.   I would think that if there was a blanket question like "The Eagles will have young QB Jalen Hurts as one of their top 2 QBs,  Should the other one of the top 2 QBs be a veteran or a rookie?"  the answer would be veteran,   and there really are a lot of good choices for a veteran to pair with Jalen Hurts.

Colts / Chargers - Jacoby Brissett,  Tyrod Taylor,  Easton Stick.

Top / expensive / legit starters -  Cam Newton,   Marcus Mariota

Super cheap running QBs with NFL starting experience - RGIII, Terrelle Pryor

Basically,  there are 7 choices there.   The Eagles have a young QB already.   And 7 choices is a lot of choices and those QBs do fall under clearly distinct categories,  top draft picks who won and are expensive,  QBs that the coaches have worked with already, and should have some comfort with, and super cheap QBs who are stylistically similar.     It's very far from the scenario where there are no veterans available to put in the QB room.   They might want to put 2 veterans with Hurts.    And,  when you're looking at that list of 7,  you might think that you'll get one or 2 this year,  but next year, you could do the same thing,  replace the ones you no longer want with others on that list.  Maybe you can't afford Mariota this year but think that he might represent and upgrade next year?   There are a lot of different things that you can do.

It just seems like there is a pretty big bucket of veteran QBs who can fit with Hurst,  and going with the "waste resources on expensive top first round QB who usually fails" really shouldn't be what the Eagles do this year.   And I think that Kyle Trask is the exception to that because of the Gators tie.

Do you think? The QB factory would pass on a QB?

The QB Factory opens the door, but he isn't going to draft a player better than Russell Wilson II.  I doubt he drafted him to be a gadget player.

Add: I think ALL of those top QBs are better than Hurts now and in the future.

Lawrence is a transformational player. He's obviously gone.

But after that? Maybe Fields but the kid from BYU plays in a soft conference and if the Eagles go to the North Dakota State well again I'm becoming a Bengals fan.

And Lurie has a photoshopped Fathead with Howie's face on Andy Reid's body on his wall. So, it's a vicious cycle.

I will remind you of this nonsense next year. 😁

Of what nonsense do you speak?

The Bengals do have the best looking helmets and I don’t even like orange.

Technically, BYU is an independent, or was this year.  And the teams they played were pretty bad.  With covid,  plus being independent,  well, BYU did really well against North Alabama.  The year before,  when BYU did play some good teams,  the BYU kid went 4-5 and had a passer rating of 130.8.

I think you are safe on this one...

It's not a bad feeling. I hope they do. We now need one.

If Justin Fields somehow slips to 6 the Eagles are going to have a tough decision to make.

Personally?  I think they should trade back and add picks.  Roll with Hurts and an affordable veteran backup next year - it's a lost year anyway because of the salary dump - and add depth at LB, CB and DL.

If Fields is sitting there at 6, they’d be way better off trading down as there will definitely be offers there for #6.

A move down to 8 with the Panthers for example could pick you up an additional second rounder and another day 3 pick. Grab Pitts, Waddle, whoever the best weapon is left at 8.

Unless Penei Sewell is there at 6, please trade back and collect more picks.

Its definitely a possibility. If they feel that any of these QBs are a franchise QB, then they most draft them. Just because Hurts was drafted in 2nd round doesnt mean they are married to him. I would love to see Hurts get an opportunity for a year but it is what it is. We have seen this happen with some teams (although they had #1 overall pick) like Carolina (Jimmy Clausen-Cam Newton) and Arizona (Josh Rosen-Kyler Murray).

Eagles are in a rebuild and must evaluate every position at this point.

I would prefer a WR but we will see what they end up doing.

Mac Jones looked good but it's playing behind the Alabama offensive line, with their receivers and tailbacks so it's impossible to judge accurately and given Tagavailoa's struggles last year I wouldn't risk more than a 3rd on him.

Unfortunately we need one of those and also 1st round talent at about 5 or 6 other positions too....

The worst would be to draft another ND state QB at 6. Beyond Lawrence, who would likely not wrestle the job from Hurts next season and leave us with the same QB controversy(nothing wrong with that), there's nobody worth the draft position. That said, we need to draft a QB somewhere this season. Perhaps Jones in the 2nd, but we still have GOT to get a top-3 CB in this draft.

I'm starting to warm up to Zach Wilson.

I would love him if he slips. Just not a 6. I think QBs will go fast. He may not even be there at 6. But if he's not, Sewell or Waddle, maybe even Chase will be there.

Howie's selection of Hurts destroyed his franchise QB. He has to go all in now.

To select a QB in the first round will destroy this team and divide the locker room.

Which is something Howie is good at, so....

Yes. I dont think Hurts is the future of the franchise, but I am ready to give him a shot, he is not a bad player. We need to fix the holes, we need to get weapons, we need an infusion of youth at all 3 levels of the defense. I am totally prepared to suck next year with Hurts if it comes to it.

If we draft a QB we should change our name to the Philadelphia Browns.

I mean really, we trade valuable assets to move up and draft Wentz and then we sign him to a huge deal. Then after we sign him to a franchise QB deal, we draft another QB in the 2nd round.  Then in the following year another with a top 10 pick.

I guess that really would make us the QB factory.
