December 14, 20214 yr I didn't even know he was banned. He was the first person I ever put on ignore back when he would pop up in the Sixers thread and post a bunch of racist crap.

Kz on the other hand is likewise a scumbag but prefers to tip toe around the issue because this place means way too much to him for him to say what he really feels about race. White liberals hold some of the most racist and prejudicial beliefs. In actuality they are really some of the biggest hypocrites out there. They don't see people of color on the same playing field as them. They hide their racism by coming off as being benevolent to the poor people of color who need their help. Similar beliefs regarding other groups as well. Go see how they react to a conservative black person, or a conservative gay person, or a conservative woman, and you'll see their prejudices come out in full bloom for all to see.

December 15, 20214 yr Latest data from South Africa shows adults infected with omicron are only 30% less likely to be hospitalized than the original strain. If this holds up (still a huge if) this is not great. We know it's likely at least 3-4x more transmissible than the original strain which means a mere 30% reduction in hospitalizations will not only prolong the pandemic, but cause hospitals to be overwhelmed even worse than they were last March and perhaps worse than delta too. A net neutral effect scenario is seemingly off the table now unless that reduction in hospitalization risk is much closer to 50-60%.

December 15, 20214 yr This is the way it should be because cases are not going to stop https://fortune.com/2021/09/09/singapore-covid-hospitalized-cases-community-vaccine-rate/
December 15, 20214 yr In the UK we are seeing the separate nations all take slightly different approaches. Scotland and Wales are introducing more restrictions whilst encouraging people to limit social mixing. In England we are now required to wear face masks in shops and some other venues and are encouraged to work from home. Some are concerned they are going to stop us mixing at Christmas again but in England I'm not sure that's going to happen. Rarely do I side with the government but I think we are doing the right thing. Wear a mask to help limit the spread, work from home if you can and focus on the booster programme. We've seen from the last 2 years now that lockdowns are not the answer. This virus is here to stay and lockdowns are only effective short term. Time to get on with our lives as best as possible.
December 15, 20214 yr In Germany you aren't allowed into shops, restaurants, bars, etc. unless you've had your 2nd or 3rd jab within the last six months. I'm not going to Germany but I'm coming up on my six months date for #2 and I'm not eligible for #3 yet.

December 15, 20214 yr I think a little honesty would go a long way for a lot of people. When the President gets on stage and just prattles off easily disprovable lies like "just get the vaccine so you can't spread the virus" it just makes people roll their eyes and stop listening.
December 15, 20214 yr Google says unvaccinated employees will lose pay, eventually be fired Quote Unvaccinated employees who don't comply by Jan. 18 would be put on paid administrative leave for 30 days, following which the company would put them on unpaid personal leave for up to six months. Employees who still refused to be vaccinated would then be terminated. The memo also added that "anyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite." It has also made it clear that it will not consider testing for COVID-19 regularly as an alternative to the vaccine.
December 15, 20214 yr Quote Researchers at the Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen estimated in a report this week that Omicron cases in Denmark were doubling every two days, with about three-quarters of infections reported in people who have received two vaccine doses. Double vaxxed account for 75% of the Omicron infections in Denmark. But yeah, get the vaccine so you don't spread the virus! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/14/denmark-norway-rush-in-stricter-covid-measures-as-cases-soar
December 15, 20214 yr The period during which you can pass the virus on is much shorter on average when you're vaccinated. Unvaccinated may pass on the virus to 5-6 people where a vaccinated person may only pass it on to 2-3. That's a HUGE difference in terms of controlling the spread.
December 15, 20214 yr 10 hours ago, Joe Shades 73 said: Nobody's disputing that it results in milder disease, the problem is, it's not mild enough to make up for how much more contagious it is. Also, as said before, death is the most lagging indicator. It can takes weeks before someone who's been infected ends up dying from it. Looking at CFR now as evidence of its virulence is kinda silly.
December 15, 20214 yr 10 hours ago, Joe Shades 73 said: Pandemic still over for vaccinated Exactly. It's low risk for anyone who's been boosted. But unfortunately we live in a country of idiots, where about 40% still aren't vaccinated, and of those who have been only a quarter have been boosted. So if something is 3x as transmissible but even a third less virulent, you can do the math and see why it's gonna be a problem collectively. Governors likely won't sit on their hands and let their healthcare systems crash across the state.
December 15, 20214 yr lol. It's all for show. These people simply don't care and aren't afraid of the virus. Can't blame them, really.
