Anthony Fauci's newly released diary is turning into a pretty rough own goal for the republicans who leaked it, because instead of exposing him as some deep state villain, it mostly shows a scientist working the phones, trusting the evidence, and quietly rolling his eyes at donald trump's chaos while trying to keep the country safe.

Senator Rand Paul released more than a thousand pages of Fauci's private notes from 2019 to 2022, and Fauci testifies before Paul's committee this week. Paul has framed the release around the idea that what Fauci wrote privately and what he told the country were two different stories.

Paul's biggest headline claim does not hold up well under scrutiny. He points to a diary entry where Fauci allegedly acknowledged early on that the virus did not originate at the Wuhan wet market, while publicly backing a paper that pointed to natural spillover from that market, and Paul is using the gap to argue Fauci covered for a lab leak.

But the entry Paul is citing actually shows Fauci complaining that conspiracy style letters from members of Congress were an amazing and unbelievable waste of time, which reads like frustration, not confession. A Dartmouth virologist told NPR that scientists being less certain in private than in public is normal, and that solid evidence exists for two separate viral lineages emerging, which actually supports natural spillover.

Paul has also repeatedly alleged, without evidence, that NIAID funded gain of function research in Wuhan caused the pandemic, a claim Fauci denies both publicly and in the supposedly damning private diary itself. If Fauci were really hiding something, you would expect the private version to admit it. Instead it says the same thing as the public one.

What actually comes through in the diary is a guy trying to steer a president who kept wandering off topic. Fauci repeatedly described trump's public comments as rambling, noting at one point that trump would drift into talking about TV ratings while Fauci tried to keep him on track. That is what a competent official sounds like when the man in charge cares more about ratings than case counts.

The timing of this outrage cycle is not an accident either. While cable news spends the week over a diary that mostly makes Fauci look diligent, RFK jr is overseeing the worst measles comeback in a generation. The CDC reported 2,318 measles cases in 2026 alone, more than all of 2025 and far beyond the 283 cases in 2024, with the number still climbing.

Not to mention the ever increasing outbreak of diarrhea lettuce.

So dig through Fauci's diary if you want. What you will mostly find is a professional doing his job under an erratic boss, and a senator whose greatest hits don't survive contact with their own footnotes.

Looking forward to when Republicans give the same level of scrutiny to the Epstein files.

They lied about the effectiveness of masks and social distancing. They lied about the safety of the vaccines. These things can be true and at the same time be great decisions. The masks and distancing were never about having a shield against the virus, they were about maintaining discipline as a society so we wouldn't all get sick at the same time and overrun the hospitals. The vaccines were not safe for everybody, but had to be forced on as many people as possible to get back to normal life.

Your government lies to you all the time, they do it even more during a war or pandemic because we are in fact, panicky animals in herds. You can only judge them on if it was worth it after the fact. It was a global pandemic, some decisions made were wrong, others were correct.

A study doesn't mean anything until it's peer reviewed and its findings are repeated.

NONE of the studies showing Ivermectin to be in any way effective ended up being reproducible. All subsequent studies in fact showed the opposite - that Ivermectin had exactly zero impact on recovery.

Fauci, and every other health department in the world btw, decided to bury Ivermectin because the panicky animals could not be trusted to administer this and other home remedies responsibly. Ivermectin could theoretically be somewhat effective and burying it could still have been the correct choice. I had some stashed away in case of a life or death emergency.

They didn't lie, they gave guidelines that were as sensible as they could be given what was understood.

And the safety of the vaccines was also understood to be unknown for all cohorts, but the lives saved by getting the vaccines out are VASTLY greater than the negatives of the vaccines.

Again, giving the best advice to save the most people is not "lying". They are charged with saving as many lives as possible and preventing the spread of a pandemic.

You would have to be able to prove that Fauci was doing things entirely based on asserting power, and not in the interest of public health.

Masks and distancing are effective for viruses similar to Covid, and studies show that masks were moderately to highly effective in preventing spread - contingent on the quality of the masks and how well they were fitted. That's the exact opposite of what I said. His defense will be that the times he fudged the truth or hid information from the public, he did it specifically in the name of public health. Fauci did not follow the playbooks that were built over decades pre-COVID by all the leading experts in the field for pandemic situations like COVID. Those plans were quickly abandoned under immense political and media pressure. You may believe it was the right decision at the time but the actual emergency plans and protocols were not followed by Fauci or others.

The study says what we already know. Properly worn surgical masks significantly help an individual both from contracting COVID and also from spreading it further. That's pretty much all the study says. It did say DIY masks "seemed" to help individuals from contracting COVID. The other point (the important one in my mind) of whether mask MANDATES do anything to stop the spread was not discussed at all in this study. The conclusion in the article is clear "masks, are, and were, effective". Nothing mentioned at all about mandates in the summary conclusion, of course.

On one hand, this is rhetarded. On the other hand, it's a great opportunity to post some phenomenal content of people faking vaccine injuries.
