Definitive proof not being possible doesn't put both possibilities on equal footing though. It being a intentionally or accidentally released bioweapon is a pretty bold claim and I would expect some solid genetics data to back it up given that up considering how much genomic data we have by now. Granted I haven't made it all the way through that article you linked so maybe there is.
