Never ending. The current vaccine will take at least until the fall to get enough people vaccinated, then the process will have to start all over again for the new strain

Yeah, we’ve been saying that the whole thread, doofus.

Had a customer today who works at a nursing home tell me not to get the vaccine that the side effects are terrible and no one is getting the second dose and there is no way covid is worse then the side effects of the vaccine... Holy hell people are stupid. I said they have been warning us for months that there will be side effects and to take the next day off because it will likely wipe you out. 

So a day or 2 of side affects is totally not worth 2 weeks of being sick and potentially dying. People are insane. 

Fauci, et al., saying we'll probably need either a new vaccine or some type of booster to deal with the S.A. variant.

Friend of mine works as a doc in the COVID building of a big skilled nursing facility.  Literally see death from COVID several times a week.  Said only about 65% of the staff got vaccinated. Almost all of the providers but crazy low numbers from the rest of the staff. Absolutely Fing embarrassing.

I have a close friend who's a nurse and he has not taken the vaccine. He initially said it was because he felt like he didn't need to be priority and was exposed to the virus on a daily basis so he felt like he's probably been slowly immunized to it. He also thought, with COVID science still in its infancy, that there is a reasonable chance that mutations would eventually make the vaccines ineffective and require modifications anyway. That was a couple of months ago. I saw his GF got vaccinated, though, so I texted him the other day and asked if he was still holding off. He said he was "for now" but might still get it down the line. I asked what his specific concerns were, but I haven't gotten a reply yet.

I am starting to think that COVID is most likely just going to become an endemic disease.

I really hope this is a character you play on the EMB, and you aren’t this depressing and pessimistic in real life. Otherwise, I don’t know how the people close to you haven’t slit their wrists yet. 

The chances of prominent variants gaining traction will come crashing to a halt once each country reaches herd immunity. Fewer transmissions = fewer variants. Maybe you see a few years of cyclical seasonal spikes, and maybe a booster every winter, but eventual they'll run out of chances to mutate and natural selection will win out. And even if it lingers in some regions long enough for a new variant to pop up, spinning up a new vaccine to target a new strain is far easier and faster with mRNA platforms. I'll say it until I die but the interim data released by Pfizer on 11/9 was absolutely earth shattering and somehow still continues to fly way under the radar. It was confirmation that we now had a silver bullet for this beast and the end to the pandemic would likely be declared within a year's time.

Reality sucks sometimes. Accept the realty it makes things easier. Pandemic is not ending. Republican Party will be dominant in 4 years. Millions will die. Healthcare gutted. Abortion restricted. Should I continue? People like KZ will rule the country, accept it now so when it happens it will be easier to deal with

Are you traveling through the heartland, you know, the real America? Maybe because most of my friends and family are Trump lovers that makes me pessimistic. I truly believe dark days are ahead, it really saddens me .I would love for someone to give me real reasons to hope for the best
