J&J's peak efficacy in US trials was upwards of 70%; it was the only one of the first three approved vaccines that was tested against the South African variant which brought its overall efficacy down. It was still effective, but SA variant efficacy was like 58%. it's fairly effective at reducing severe cases, though moderate cases it's less effective. it's also less effective for older patients than younger. it definitely is, overall, less effective than the mRNA based vaccines though.
