Yikes! How many people live in the US?

So, let's put it this way: 1/5 of the U.S. population has some form of low-grade psychosis.

So how about the shot?  Did that hurt?

No, that didn’t hurt either.

Social media's impact on this generation can't be overstated. They post things, get likes and start to think they are more important than they actually are. So they become incredibly arrogant and selfish because they are programmed that way. Combine that with parents who choose being their friend over being a disciplinarian, and you get a selfish, stupid, self-absorbed generation.

My parents always had this deal with us: We don't care what sport you play, as long as you play at least one sport.  Both the social skills and competitiveness you get can't be overstated.  Plus with a deal like that, the kid does feel like they are making a choice and have a better chance to stick with it.

I did this with my kids as well.  Even when it meant more running around and Mr Di being at one game while I was somewhere else with the other one.  And the travel leagues.  I've always loved the competition of sports no matter what I was watching, participating in, or anyone else in our family was doing.  What did you play?

My rebellious stage started when my parents sent me to Catholic HS when the public hs was 2 blocks from our home.   I do wish I participated more in sports.  Only did freshman cheerleading and tennis.  Well, then I found out what pot was so.

Which combined with our failing education system is yielding selfish, stupid, self-absorbed generation of morons who have no ability to think critically or solve complex problems. I swear half of them can't even write coherently.

There's no way only 20% of the nation are liberals.

I'm not as much of a hardliner when it comes to tablets, tv, and video games. I try to monitor what they're watching or playing more so than a limit on screen time in general. Oldest has soccer or dance from wed-sat, so that takes up most of the week, and a big chunk of last summer was spent at the pool or riding bikes with her friends so I'm not too worried about stunted social development or anything like that.

With my youngest, I work with her to use a desktop so she can learn how to interact with a computer via a keyboard and mouse, in addition to touchscreen UIs. Technology will be an ever present part of their lives, so I'm encouraging them to learn how to use it in appropriate ways (e.g. Khan academy kids instead of YouTube, etc) rather than treating it as something that's bad and heavily limited. That approach ironically paid off for us during the end of the school year in the spring and during the times this fall when they had to go virtual. My daughter didn't skip a beat, whereas my wife struggled to keep up.

Got the JnJ vaccine last Tuesday.  Woke up middle of the night with a ukn’ fever, and symptoms similar to when I got COVID.  Whatevs though.  I didn’t clot and stroke out so that’s good.
I am so anti-vaxx that I got JnJ while everyone is afraid of it.  No ukn’ line.  In and out in 5 min.  Well, plus the 15 minutes in observation.  But you get the idea.

Welcome to the club! No fear!

I do the same. The boy is in Karate and the girl is in dance. The girls is actually in 2 different dance classes which is more time off the internet.

Yup. A "no technology" mentality will put them at a disadvantage. The tech is here to stay. Teach them.

It's the limiting that is the problem for me. My son has other interests, so I rarely if ever have to curtail his screen time. He also loves school, loves to learn, and does his school work without me asking. The girl is a freaking nightmare. She'd be online all day in her pajamas everyday if I let her (YouTube and gaming). I get it because of the pandemic, online gaming with her friends is a social outlet, but I don't like it.

Yeah, me and my wife were just lucky I guess.  Both kids would rather be doing something active than playing with tech sheet.  So much so that we never gave a sheet when they did use their tech crap.  It was usually at night before bed or on rainy days.  But yeah, some kids can’t put the sheet down.

I had to take youtube off their tablet. Too many "empty calories" as far as technology use goes. They still have Netflix, but I encourage her to watch as many shows that actually teaches her something. She's seen every episode of brain child, Emily's science lab, operation ouch, various animal shows, etc. I kinda F'ed up on the last part, because those shows talk about "mating" a lot and she now thinks that's what it's called when an animal meet another animal for the first time.

I took YouTube off the iPad (gift from Mother in law), but she can still get it on her chromebook. Can't restrict it there because its a school account. I monitor what she watches, and its nothing bad. She watches other people play video games on it (which I'll never understand why that is a thing). iirc my daughter is a little older than yours. I'm dealing wit the whole puberty deal right now. Pray for me.

Yea mine are 8 and 4. I plan to deal with the puberty and teen years by ingesting copious amounts of drugs and alcohol.

Girls also hit puberty much earlier these days. I remember when she was a baby reading that it was because of hormones in the food. Always gave her hormone free food. That didn't help. Let me tell you how much fun it is when your wife and preteen daughter's cycles match up. So yeah, lots of booze. Lots.

Probably his most ambitious goal yet. Possible, but going to require a multi-pronged approach, with a heavy emphasis on ramping up convenience and incentives. Clinics at grocery stores, $20 gift cards to taco bell and panera, etc.
