July 21, 20214 yr After witnessing how incredibly stupid the base of the Republican party is, do any of these "there should be an IQ test to qualify for voting" types want to revisit whether that would actually benefit Republicans?

Give me a break. C'mon dude. People get sick from all sorts of things. He could easily have gotten a staph infection somehow and then contracted a mild case of COVID due to his need to go to medical facilities. The 1st article was lazy. Clarification on this topic is quite useful these days given all of the mis information all around us.

Quote Secondary Infection A secondary infection means that you get an infection unrelated to the first problem you had. In this case, it means someone with COVID-19 gets infected with something else. A review of several studies done so far on hospitalized COVID-19 patients found that secondary infection is a possible -- but not common -- complication. Sometimes, a person fighting off, or recovering from, a virus gets infected by bacteria. Strep and staph are common culprits. This can be serious enough to raise the risk of death. Honestly, who knows what came first.

At the same time there are plenty of other scenarios whereby a person dies from another cause while they have COVID at the same time. Those are two pretty different situations.

July 21, 20214 yr About 20-40% of people (including children) are carriers of staph on their skin without an active infection. This is usually not a problem until there's a major breach in the epidermis and/or the immune system becomes weakened.

I heard on Facebook that people have been dying in car crashes and then they test them for covid, and if it comes back positive, then they list it as a covid death. You just can't trust these numbers, man.

Yeah, that's fair and you'd expect quite a range of nuanced thought given the novelty of the disease and the range of varying statistics and measurement strategies. With one or two exceptions I'd think everyone in here recognizes the severity of the situation in any case though we will no doubt debate the details.
