I know much is being made about so called breakthrough cases but isn't it true that it takes time for the antibodies to work against the virus and during that time if you are tested you can still test positive so really everyone that is vaccinated could be technically a breakthrough case?

With the original strain, vaccines provided a significant level of sterilizing immunity. Meaning your total immune response (not just antibodies) would stop viral replication in its tracks and you would be highly unlikely to test positive if sampled. With delta, there still is sterilizing immunity in many cases, but not as much/often. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of real world data on it though, so at best we can only speculate as to the mechanisms and causes of breakthrough infections based on limited data/studies.

Also, and not to play too much into the hands of your anxiety, but if (and it's a big IF due to the lack of data thus far) this delta variant is truly 2.5x more transmissible than the original virus, we're now looking at a herd immunity threshold of about 85-90% instead of 65-70%.

No, this doesn't mean we are doomed, but it does mean the timeline of this bug being totally squashed does get pushed out a bit further.

The more people who catch it and spread it, the more variants, the longer it drags on.

That is impossible unless you are counting previously infected

Immunity conferred either by vaccination or infection. It does not necessarily mean 90% of people would need to be vaccinated since some portion of the unvaccinated would have some level of natural immunity.

And to be clear, it's going to be very regional and seasonal as we've seen before. Lots of ebs and flows throughout the year and the country.

I would assume our areas are pretty safe but over 600 new cases here today -_-

This is one of the reasons the real full lockdowns in places like France, Spain, and the UK were troublesome.  People weren't even allowed out of the house at all other than to buy food.

Yeah, fortunately I have a gym in my house. I would go crazy if I couldn't get that workout in.

Delta definitely increased the chances of this, at least in the interim.

Way to take a quote, skip parts of it so it is totally out of context.

uhhhh, its exactly what you quoted.  Zero skipping around

Quote

Biden, in response to a last-minute question from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, said President Donald Trump's repeated misstatements and dismissal of the coronavirus have eroded American confidence in government, which could spell trouble for a vaccine rollout.

"Why do we think, God willing, when we get a vaccine — that is good, works — why do we think the public is gonna line up to be willing to take the injection?" Biden asked. "We've lost so much confidence, the American people, in what's said [by the Trump administration]."

"This president has said so many things that are untrue, that are just wrong."

The rest of the quote

"We've lost so much confidence, the American people, in what's said [by the Trump administration]."

"This president has said so many things that are untrue, that are just wrong."

Trump is largely to blame for people not getting the vaccine. Through his pushing of snake oil drugs, attacking doctors/scientists and downplaying of COVID from the beginning he owns a good chunk of the unvaccinated population. All you need to do is take a look at where the surges are happening and listen to people on their death bed: "I thought it was a hoax".

To point the finger at anyone else through yet another stupid cartoon is asinine.

Sad that it is to late.  They should have all been on board and promoting the vaccine from the get go.
