So here’s what we know about the Eagles’ starting secondary with less than two weeks before the draft:

CB1: Darius Slay
CB2: ?
NCB: Avonte Maddox
S: Anthony Harris
S: ?

McPherson as it stands now is likely CB2… Other S is between Epps/Wallace I guess

I know the Eagles staff is supposedly high on McPherson but not sure how I feel about him being handed the #2 spot with little competition.

Though I don’t think he will be a massive downgrade from Nelson and is younger/cheaper

I think people are misremembering how the Oline started. It was rocky. We were pass pass pass as players were getting injured. Well and Lane having whatever. Johnson was clearly a second half of the season player. Dickerson I’d say the same. Mailata was pretty great. But he missed a game. Then came back and played RT injured and was abused. This new team figured out more of an identity. Mailata, Dickerson, Lane and whomever were very good at wearing out defenders by attacking them and mauling. So the more they used that the better. Them just going backwards isn’t their forte. Physical is their forte.

Again...the unit played well.    A guy missing a game isn't the point.  Player development isn't the point.    The point is that in 2021, the unit of the Eagles OL played well.  The team results were good.

Round 1: No. 15 overall -- Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia

Round 1: No. 18 overall -- Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

I expect GM Howie Roseman to follow his trade with the Saints, in which the Eagles gave up one of their three first-round picks in exchange for future draft capital, by moving up this year to select a top prospect. One of his targets could be Davis, a massive lineman who would automatically improve one of the league's worst run defenses. The secondary instantly becomes a strength if Hamilton quiets those doubting his ability to consistently affect games from the safety position.

So taking half the sentence that I wrote out of context doesn't really help there... trying to insinuate I wanted to take 3 of anything in a row.   I simply said this idea of pigeonhole the picks to certain positions isn't going to help.  We need everything, don't pass up a player thinking in round 2 that position will be there, it's not guaranteed.

Example... you specifically want WR and DL... you are doing mocks and thinking we can take one of them and then take the other round 2.  No guarantee that the guy you want in round 2 will be there.  And there could be  BPA at another position anyway.

Nope it's guess work like it is every year, and we go through this BS every year. SOS

Yeah but that is once again a shaky secondary

Here Joe,I would be OK with this and taking a WR in round 2(however I dont see Hamilton making it to 18). I think though McDuffie at CB would be there at 18,so IDK

Well we are TRYING to get an FA in here. Honey Badger and also we tried to land Gilmore,so they understand we are in a bit of trouble. But that is the trouble we have annually because they refuse to address it with a top pick

Idk... all I know is it will be over in a couple weeks and all I will be focused on are the guys we draft....not the guys that we passed up.   I'm also hoping we can add some more draft ammo for next year or the year after.

Yeah, with all these picks I suspect Howie will be going crazy making moves. He seems ok at squeezing out a little "extra". I just hope we get the guys we want and I hope Howie listens to his staff as to who THEY want and avoiding the"shunned" fist bump caught on vid. I think that was the Milton pick, who seems to be at least solid. I was wondering who the "other" guy wanted in his place

I have been trying very hard to find a round 2 WR. Maybe a round 1 falls, but I really feel we need to get a top one. Next years class isn't as deep or talented. Njingba from OSU will go first and after him maybe 2 more in round1,so IMO this is the year to get one. But like you said we need so many guys and we could always snag a FA WR next year, but I would really want to stay with the pipeline drafting and not go back to FA WR's

I'd prefer to draft another WR myelf...let the offense grow together for a while with potential of signing both WRs to extensions down the road.

I'd prefer young at every spot though.

Also...I'm thinking Smith isn't going to be an elite #1 WR. My focus is to get a guy that could be better.  So I'm not focusing on the "need " of a WR to where round 2 is a must because we missed one in round 1.  I'm just looking for the one impact guy.  The guy that slides everyone else down a notch in the pecking order.

If I miss out on that guy... then IMO I'm eventually going to have to get him later. Just upgrading to an adequate #2 starter to me doesn't move the needle.

How about the potential trade with KC...if they give us both #1 picks?

We use one of the picks to get one of these WRs that are rumored to be on the trade block.    Say Metcalfe or Deebo...etc.     we use one of the 1st rounders and then say a day 2 pick.

The result...we stick pick 29 or 30 or whatever,  get a stud WR ... and  only lose another day 2 pick.   Just an idea.

IDK if Smith could be elite. He got 900+ yards as a rook with a BU, running QB and we had no team direction for 6 weeks. Get a decent guy opposite him and we could have a 1k WR(maybe both)

Not really...CB and S play a lot further apart...  a DE and DT play right next to each other.   A CB engages with a WR, a S has multiple responsibilities.    During the run game, the DE and the DT playing together and filling the gaps, which are basically a body width of an OT apart... can really impact the result.  Same for a pass rush.    S and CB are much more different.

I mean let's not put OL together either... let's separate T, G and C ....

CB in the middle is pretty much right where it should be.

Who do you have as best defenses over the course of the league history?   85 Bears, Baltimore 2000, Eagles 1991, Steel Curtain and 2000s Steelers.  You see CB taking a back seat role.  Even with Legion of Domb and No Fly Zone... run D and pass rush was key.

No way do I see CB moving up past the ones that are ahead... if anything you could make an argument moving S or LB areas.  Especially since you need more than one lock down CB in today's game.

S can play man up coverage on a receiver just like a corner. A corner can play over the top in Cover Three type looks. Good DBs can interchange. Even blitz. Separating Oline I’m fine with. T money is way different than C money….for sure. Rosie has always paid very close attention to the state of the market. That’s why I thought it a fun exercise to take your chart if the top ten position ally and make a call of the best value spot based on it. Really meant nothing in reality. WR gone nuts right now. QB money just blew up. Those two positions are a huge factor in a championship puzzle. Why I like rolling with Hurts and seeing what we can do. Don’t want to force pay some half a** QB like Jags did with Foles or everybody did with Bradford. Deebo sounds great to me at WR. He wants to get big money. He’s worth every penny. But he doesn’t sound like he’s in the break the bank money land of Hill and Adams. To me that would be huge. His contract would be massive ….but that five mil or something saved a season really does make a big difference. That’s a quality vet FA pickup at five mil.

Epps is a starter. He’s earned it the hard way with two different coaches. Defense today plays a third S a ton. Could consider three S as starters nowadays. They LB/in the box SS. Cover TE. Cover the slot. Play deep. Even can blitz. Harris is a versatile multi role player for this D. Don’t think he’s truely starting caliber player anymore. His experience being able to do so many things enables the DC to call a larger variety of playcalls….especially in game adjustment type that’s not so practiced and planned. CB2 outside? Been a huge question. We are stacked with young prospects with potential. Had a first season to break them in. Kind of feeling like all that bloated roster spots wasted last year on all those Corners that weren’t contributing needs to pay off. Don’t care who steps up(not playing favorites) but….two of them need to at least be serviceable pieces. Maybe even switch up depending on that weeks matchup. If we draft a top guy that’s be great. Still need two young guys to step up….just be more depth which is ideal. Feel like that’s all on our guys to make happen. You roster six young guys with potential at CB to develop. Then somebody gotta pan out. That’s on the scouting and coaches. Both are really failing if none of those guys find roles. Thing is they need to play and get opportunities.

McPherson is the front runner. Never had much of an opinion on him either way. Think the Ertz trade for Gowan was the answer. We didn’t get draft pick compensation much. Freed up the money which was crucial, but Gowan was the hand picked underrated target for us. Think he has the right mentality for the job.

Yes...this and that could happen.  I'll take 2 guys who line up 3 feet apart as more similar than a CB and S.

Btw.. I like " rolling with Hurts" for THIS YEAR.     But also... he won't be " rolling" on the cheap after this year.

Yes he is absolutely the best human being ever... but he is going to want to get paid if he is any decent of a QB...and zero shot the NFLPA makes the guy take a discount.   It's s#@t or get off the pot soon enough here with him.  No way around it.

Because we have nobody else. He is filling a void ONLY because we have nobody else. I could become president if I was the only one running and apparently this article writer doesn't feel we have a CB 2 worth mentioning

Not worth squat unless we get a PASS first QB in here. It would be a "dream team" waste of money. I prefer paying rooks and I can do that every year until I find my keepers. How many "must have" WR's fail when they go somewhere else under different coaching and teammates? If you can successfully draft one top WR every other year, you can essentially pay little at the position until you find a guy worth paying. Of course you can say that about every position other than QB,but WR's cost you alot in FA

Reddick at his size can line up as a DE. Imagine him lining up at Nose. Pretty large difference. But I’m not arguing every little thing. Just pointing out the money pointing at positions. That sample I’d target the Cornerback as a GM as the value position. We’ve seemed to believe S was great value for two good decades there. Think S adjusted and possibly is being overpaid now. Good thing is every offseason there is a few S to get your hands on. So if we can’t draft a S. Fairly easy to fix and afford. WR we’ve seen being available but costing an arm and a leg. QB you have to sell your sole for to get a top young guy or even an ancient dinosaur on his last leg.

So No Mas I was curious if you identified an area you’d utilize off that positional money chart if you were GM?

Wow, one season playing and you and many others scrutinizing and you already are fretting over his seven year extension. You make fair points on this subject. And I get it. But it’s just way too early to discuss. I think he’s proven himself an NFL starter. He can play in this league for sure. He’s a weapon. He’s a leader. But too me, he has to improve in decisions and passing. I put him and Siri kind of in it together. Think both are probably middle of the pack in their respective positions. Both new at it though. So I expect both to be on the upward trajectory. Had a very clear year of film. Both need to self analyze and improve. I really have little doubt both will.

He hasn't proven JACK. We didn't play anyone last year!!! Stop with all the UNFOUNDED accolades,he has proved nothing(maybe this year he can)

His contract is up after 2023 how is it way too early to talk about his possible contract extension

It's not the last minute yet. No need to plan ahead 🙄
