If you have Peacock, the olympic highlights with Kevin Hart and Snoop is pretty entertaining.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

I can’t believe Jimmy didn’t go for the gold of a lot of balls dropping today

Gotta fall into at least one bucket of injured, underwhelming or passive aggressive baby to be a true philly athlete

This is from the #1 cheerleader of the team. oof.

I think we can be pretty sure it's not hard to complete a pass against this defense.

I think there’s always been a fair amount of injuries in training camp, especially of the short-term variety.  I’m just holding my breath keeping hope that we don’t hear about any ACL, shoulder tear or Achilles injuries.

So far I haven’t heard anything that should linger well into the season — knock on wood

Gotta end the sham LT competition and honestly consider a Dillard trade. He's not playing inside if he's getting body slammed by DEs, and we've already seen him psych himself out at RT. Who's desperate for a mediocre LT with upside?

True, but counter-point, they haven't played a game and aren't even tackling to the ground yet.

I wouldn't worry about any of the injuries.

The Smith injury is disappointing because it might make it harder for him to hit the ground running...but he's clearly fine.

Davion Taylor, another injury that will ultimately be fine, stings because he was getting in good work...and he needed the experience and the confident boost he was getting.  Catching on in the NFL for some of the lesser players can be like catching a wave while surfing...a small hangup in your first or second training camp can cause you to miss that wave, impacting your opportunity and your career.

That also applies to Hightower.  After the way he looked last year and a quiet camp this year...it's almost impossible to justify keeping him on the team if he's barely playing between now and the cutdown.  Not much of a loss based on what we've seen though.  Put him on the PS and bring him up for our annual December shuffle when we are pulling people out of the parking lot to start at WR.

Training camp always has a long list of minor, soft tissue injuries due to precautions tough...not sure there is anything unusual here.

Its not the D.  We have a trash sammich at WR and a big question mark at QB.

Also counter point it’s Philadelphia where something is in the wooder and every team somehow piles up injuries.

Honestly, I wouldnt think this defense will be that great. It will be improved over Jim;s soft D and I think could be a nice defense BUT this Offense is just trash if they cant get anything going at all during practice. At this point they should be improving not going from suck to blow. If Jalen doesnt start showing something his nickname will be changed to MegaMaid

Yup.  I think they have joint practices against NE on the 16th and 17th sandwiched between their games vs PIT and NE, then joint practices against the Jets on the 24th and 25th prior to the Jets game on the 27th.

At least we will get an idea soon how these guys look against other players

I won’t he unhappy to not hear the phrase "non contact injury” during this training camp.

With how poor the offense looks all around this training camp it has me a bit worried about how good of a system and offensive HC Nick Sirianni is.  Don't think it is helping either how he runs these ultra short practices.

Not even sure if this is a made up person or not

Hard to evaluate a new hc that has been handed the keys to a 1973 gremlin on offense.

Gannon wasn't exactly handed the keys to a great unit on defense but he has them apparently looking really good in practice.

I expect about 2 peak years from anyone at the RB position at this point.

The exceptions to that rule and the RBs who get offenses built around them are even worse...then you build your offense around an entity that will be expired a couple years into a very long deal.  But I digress; this is about backup RB's.

Because you generally get 2 peak years from RB's, backups are generally 1 of the following:

1.  Players with prior productivity and name recognition who have clearly exceeded their expiration date as primary backs. (Howard)

2.  Players early on rookie deals from later rounds who have surprised a bit and are very effective in their role.

3. Players later on rookie deals from later rounds who are just hanging on as situational depth.  (Scott, although not drafted)

4.  Players drafted later or signed for less for a specific, limited role as scatbacks.  (Tarik Cohen, Pumphrey)

5.  Players on teams with idiot GM's who invest high draft picks in their #2 backs.

Much like a MLB bullpen, I just don't think it's an area worth investing in until your franchise has a winning foundation.

Scott was drafted by the Saints. Howie picked him off their PS.  Only UDFAs on the Eagles are Holyfield, poached from Atlanta, and Killins (you would love his speed but he really isn’t a RB).

3. but really 2. by your description. Scott is 5’6” and 203. He runs inside and outside because he has a solid low center of gravity and 4.4 speed quickness to the hole.  Just for a little size comparison - Brian Westbrook, 5’ 10” and 203.  No, I don’t think Scott has vision as good as Westbrook but it is not bad.  When he came into the league, Sproles was 5’ 6” and 190 and people talked about his low center of gravity because 190 is pretty good weight for a 5’6” RB.  Now there is not doubt in my mind that Scott has better hands than Sproles. I don’t see him as a situational depth, more like relief because he is well rounded.  Situational backs like labeling a player a third down back is dated and not very accurate for Scott.  Yes, because he has pretty good hands and okay pass pro, he might see third down substitutions but that is not the extent of his ability

4. My guess is Gainwell has similar versatility.  Also a later round draft choice as was Huntley.  Those two are similar in size and both need to show the ability to run between the tackles.  Too much speed in the NFL to take runs outside all the time but like Sanders and Scott, they have good speed. Gainwell has pretty good hands   I don’t see a scatback, per se, but both need to show they can run inside.  Gainwell is 200 so he has a better shot at that at 5’ 9” than Huntley at 193 and same height.

1. but possibly a 4.  Howard, too, was a fifth round choice.  He was actually graded higher but his 4.59 speed, 4.59, and size, 230 at 6’ made him seem a short yard back, which is just so wrong.  He is a one step primarily inside runner with good vision but he does need a hole.  Eagles list him at 222 and I do suspect he has slimmed down a bit.  He actually has some burst.  When Miami said he didn’t fit their offense, that was right but then they used him incorrectly too.  I do think he had a lingering muscle issue all season. Not sure he is worn out at this point. If not, a well rounded relief back.

5. but now a 1, maybe..Kerryon Johnson was simply put, overdrafted.  He should not have been a second rounder.  Decent 1 step back out of Auburn with 4.53 speed (similar to Westbrook).  Not a big back at 5’11” and 206.  Basically 6 pounds for 2” compared to Gainwell or five inches and three pounds heavier than Scott.  That knee injury cost him a step that he didn’t have to lose.  His issue is he is one speed.  Never really had a burst.  Good hands and good pass pro.  Could be a third down back if such existed in today’s offenses but there are better options with Scott and also possibly with Gainwell.  Heck if Huntley can actually do some pass pro, his speed on third down would make his play more attractive, especially with the motion that Sirianni seems to be.

Holyfield has no number that I see. Decent size at 5’10” and 215 but not a "big back”.  I’d want him to have my back in a bar fight because he is more jacked than Scott but 4.78 speed is just too slow in the NFL.   Heck, of our DEs, and I include Williams as a DE, only Barnett timed slower (cue Barnett hate).   But man did Holyfield look good at Georgia.  His complete lack of any speed was a shocker

It's nice to hear Singleton going right at it once activated

I think it's just the offense having a horrible day. Better to do it in camp than during game

Will be fine. The defense gets paid to win too.

It’s Hurts’ birthday today. Celebrating it by he and the offense making the defense look good.
