They won't bench him, it's well document how mentally and emotionally fragile he is.

Or get Covid. There’s no way a mental case like Wentz survives another benching.

Food for thought for the benchwagon people. What happens to your god if the backup comes in and kills it for those games Wentz is out? You guys really think they’re keeping your deity?

yet, somehow they just lost again.

Loss wasn't on Wentz

Wentz played really well enough to win.    Feel bad for him tonight.   Kicking game blew 7 points.

I just can't see them sitting him the last 4-5 games. That's a lot of games he can use to get right for the following year.

Also I'm sure Wentz would like to screw Howie over but, I doubt that's in the minds of their FO. They do what's best for them, not worry about being petty in honor of Wentz.

This was a response to someone that thinks he will get benched and do it to screw over Howie as well.

This is where I am at with it as of right now. This sheet changes week to week though so I might think differently soon enough lol

I don’t think they bench Wentz. First, it’s totally Bush League. The team will look like a joke. Second, it would just be bad for Wentz’s confidence and team morale. He’s playing very well right now. I think you build on that for the future, that’s more important than giving up a 2nd rather than a 1st.

He had a good game. Sucks for him not to get the W.

There’s no real precedence for benching a player for a pick. Certainly not to this magnitude. Even Hurts was shown on the sidelines last year mouthing "that ain’t right” when Doug too him out. Most of the team was angry about it too. I don’t see professional A type personalities being happy with sitting down.

Nope, just to many games to sit him. They made the commitment with the resources dumped into him. If he gets back on track he is their first round pick. So they are going to do everything possible to make that happen.

have you seen who is Wentz's backups, they make Rodney Pete look like Peyton Manning

I don't think the benching thing will just "happen outright". If the Colts are rolling along .500 or below and Wentz hasn't missed games beyond what he's already missed, then he will play out the year and we will get the 1st and that'll be it. That said, If Wentz misses a few more games and is close to that 75% threshold, and the Colts are eliminated from the playoffs, and something like "playing the backups in the final 2 meaningless games" is an option, obviously the Colts will do something.

If Wentz is close to the threshold that will allow them to keep their 1st, and something like "sitting him for a half" in the final meaningless game, hell yeah they do it. They'd be dumb not to. I don't think anyone is saying, "If Wentz is nowhere near the threshold, the Colts will "bench" him for 3 straight games just to keep the 1st. How much time he misses throughout the season collectively will determine how the Colts handle it at the end of the year. There are several variables in play regarding the pick. If the Colts don't win more than 4-5 games and they end up with a top 5 pick, that they have a chance to keep.. they'd be crazy not to try to keep it. If in another 2 months they find themselves with only 2-3 wins that 1st rounder will skyrocket in value to them. Letting the Eagles take the 14th-15th-16th pick is 1 thing, handing over the 3rd or 4th overall pick is something entirely different.

I really don't think they are going to bench him as things stand. I know they are 1-4 but they've had a pretty tough schedule and he's actually played fairly well so far. He's certainly not been the biggest issue with that team. They are also in a really bad division so they are still in the hunt to win the AFC South and surely their schedule is going to ease?

Unless they go "hey Carson, how would you like to have a first round pick next year to help you AND screw Howie in the process? Take a few games off. Although the division is so bad they'll stay in the hunt.

Won't matter. He's a head case and will not be able to handle being benched in back to back years.

Perfect outcome.

So far Wentz plays pretty well for the Colts despite their record

And that's what we need because I really don't think they'll bench him if he's playing well regardless of their record. I could of course be wrong but right now it looks like the Colts are going to have a losing record this year and so I think our hope has to be that he plays well so they can't bench him.

Ummmm I would start to get nervous now, if they loose a few more, don't think Colts will surrender a 1st round pick...

If the colts are out of playoff contention, benching Wentz has multiple downsides to it which could cost the colts more than the first round pick.

Trades with conditional picks are based off a certain degree of trust and respect for a GMs word.  And Ballard has a lot of respect around the league...I would think he wouldn't want to screw that up.

Also, as someone mentioned above, if the backup comes in and does well, then they have an unnecessary QB controversy.  If Wentz is playing well, benching him would not do anything but frustrate him. And the colts are on the hook for his big contract......they don't want to risk f------ him up.

And, in the division they are in, they could turn things around and be in the division race until december.....and all this is assuming Wentz stays healthy.  As long as the colts have any shot, they won't create some mystery injury.

Yeah people thought that way about Foles too.

Ballard could go to Wentz and tell him; it wont be a bench, we will leave it as an injury issue to the Media and fans, let's keep the 1st round pick and get you a top WR in the draft.

I don't see why Wentz will not be onboard with the above, provided the pick Colts are getting is a top 10 one..

I don't think the media will buy it though. And if they do it'll bring up the injury prone question marks. I don't think Wentz is mentally strong enough for it.

Oh media and fans will buy it, Wentz has been injured that many times... That's a given....
