And that's what we need because I really don't think they'll bench him if he's playing well regardless of their record. I could of course be wrong but right now it looks like the Colts are going to have a losing record this year and so I think our hope has to be that he plays well so they can't bench him.

There are so many more headaches that team will endure if they purposefully bench him for multiple games to try and keep a pick than it’s worth. If they have a quarterback they actually believe in he is that first round pick. Do they really bench the guy and risk mentally messing him up to keep it? Do they risk sending that kind of message to their fans and roster over a pick for one year? Truth is the Colts could’ve already had Wentz out. He’s coming off an injury and two bum ankles. Now would’ve been the perfect time to bench him especially considering the other injuries they have. It makes no sense to bench him for multiple games later when he’s actually healthy.

Oh media and fans will buy it, Wentz has been injured that many times... That's a given....

That’s the thing though. They know he’s injured right now and still playing. That guy fought hard to stay on the field. Does anyone really think he’s coming off the field with a fake injury after losing so many games to injury in the past? Especially when you consider how many times his backup came into games and basically out performed him.

Yeah Wentz would probably be more concerned they’re trying to keep that first for his replacement rather than thinking it’s for a receiver. They will have a high 2nd anyway so they could easily trade back into the first to select a receiver.

I would be very surprised if Eagles get a top 10 pick from the Colts... I just don't see it.. Would be nice though..

I would be surprised if the Colts risk the mentality of their quarterback over a pick for one season unless they don’t think he’s really their guy.

Colts' next 5 games: Texans, 49ers, Titans, Jets, and Jags.   They will likely win at least 3 of those games, maybe 4.  Outside chance at all 5.

Titans' next 5 games: Bills, Chiefs, Colts, Rams, Saints.   They will very likely lose at least 3 of those games, maybe 4.  Outside chance at all 5.

Colts have the Titans at home this time, and beating a division rival back to back is tough, even for good teams against bad teams.  It happens, but splits are much more common.   Colts win that game and 3 others.  Titans lost that game and 2 others...

Division goes from Titans 3-2, Colts 1-4

to

Titans 5 - 5, Colts 5 - 5.   And with the split between them, it will come down to division record to find the tiebreaker.

And if the Colts are at 5-5 after 10 games, they can't bench Wentz.  So, I think the next 5 weeks will end all the foolish speculation about benching Wentz to save the draft pick.  Wentz could get benched, but it would be for poor play, not draft picks.  And, given the way he's playing right now, a benching is not very likely.

WentzWatch:

He needs to play 12.75 games to reach 75%.  So far he has played in 4.9 games through 5 weeks!

He needs to play 12.00 games to reach 70%.

Great outcome. Now the Colts need to start accruing a few wins. With the schedule coming up, that shouldn’t be a problem.

You guys realize if the Colts benched Wentz just to keep us from getting a first while he is playing well. No one in the league would do business with them again.

@Connecticut Eagle is updating the actual snap counts.   It's in the first post in this thread.

If the colts are out of playoff contention, benching Wentz has multiple downsides to it which could cost the colts more than the first round pick.

Trades with conditional picks are based off a certain degree of trust and respect for a GMs word.  And Ballard has a lot of respect around the league...I would think he wouldn't want to screw that up.

Also, as someone mentioned above, if the backup comes in and does well, then they have an unnecessary QB controversy.  If Wentz is playing well, benching him would not do anything but frustrate him. And the colts are on the hook for his big contract......they don't want to risk f------ him up.

And, in the division they are in, they could turn things around and be in the division race until december.....and all this is assuming Wentz stays healthy.  As long as the colts have any shot, they won't create some mystery injury.

Yup. Short of another injury or exacerbating his current ankle injury, I don’t see it happening simply because of the trust factor lost. Not just from the Eagles, but from around the league. Teams like trades with conditions for a reason, and a bush league move like sitting a player just to avoid an agreed upon condition can possibly have farther reaching effects.

Wentz is soft he is a baby glad he is gone .

Watch them bench Wentz and then draft a QB with the 1st. That would be the ultimate FU to Wentz.

I don’t think that would ever happen but it would be a funny scenario.

That’s the only way they are benching Wentz. It’s cause they don’t think he’s the guy.

I still agree with this. If they bench Wentz I don't think they have a very happy time of things over the next couple of years.

Colts lose again. I like it

And then he gets traded to Chicago where he competes with Foles to be the backup to Fields ... and loses that competition.

Looking like a top 10 pick if the Colts don't try to defraud us, by putting him on IR at 74% of the snaps, with some Phony Injury.

Current draft position for Eagles in Round 1:

#5 Overall - Miami

#6 Overall - Indy

#10 Overall - Eagles

Since I can't root for Eagles losses, I see the need for more losses by Miami and Indy.

Exactly. The Birds losing will just likely happen whether rooting for it or not lol.

Not sure it will be phony since he's always hurt. I can't see Wentz wanting to risk further injury by playing in meaningless games either. It won't be a situation where the Colts are damaging his psyche. They will just talk to him about shutting things down to make sure he is healthy and in good shape for next year. He will agree and the Eagles will get screwed. I'm sure doing that to Howie won't upset Wentz either.
