Howie wouldn't have said that without the scouting department telling him that.  That would have been Douglas and Weidl.  Douglas is gone, but Weidl was instrumental in evaluating and pushing for Jalen Hurts.

That's possible. They were on a run of trying to clone players. They said JJAW was like Jeffrey, wanted speed to replace DeSean Jackson, etc. They had just seen Lamar Jackson win MVP - selected with the Eagles pick they traded to the Ravens because they felt they didn't need anyone after winning the SB. Howie referenced missing out on Russell Wilson.

Howie to this day is still infatuated with Russell Wilson. He took Nick Foles and both players have the same amount of SB wins. The fact we are still hearing about a trade for a Wilson now just shows how much Howie is still into that player. The real issue with the Eagles I have right now is the organization seems lacking in a direction or plan. If they’re going to rebuild then do that. Don’t go chasing after quarterbacks and wasting the draft collateral you just created.

Howie said he jumped up to get Wentz, because he didn’t believe there would be a good quarterback coming out in the next few years. Watson, Mahomes, Jackson, and Allen all came out after that and are all better quarterbacks that Wentz. Dak Prescott is better too. All drafted after Wentz. We should be concerned about our GM.

OK, I believe I found the quote to which you are referring, and the notion that he "didn't believe there would be a good quarterback coming out in the next few years" is a misinterpretation.

In the press conference after the trade for the 2nd pick in that draft, when asked about moving up to pick second and not knowing for sure who the Rams would pick with the first pick, Roseman said "the only way you can make this trade, is to be really comfortable with both of those guys.  We've spent a ton of time investigating these guys.  Looking, as well, as what's out there going forward.  Looing at the quarterback market not only this year, next year, in 2018 ... and understanding that, although this [trade] doesn't fit an immediate need, that this is a rare opportunity that we're in."  (emphasis mine).  See Press Conference Summary.

When Roseman expanded on his comments about the "quarterback market", it is clear he was referring to the demand side of the market -- i.e., how many teams would be trying to add a top QB and how difficult it would be to move up to get in position to land one of the top ones -- rather than the supply side -- i..e, not whether there would be good QBs coming out.

E.g., in that same press conference, he said:  "The compelling thing for us is when we looked around and did this research that what the landscape looked at.  Not only in the college market and the NFL market, but the possibility that a lot more teams are needing quarterbacks.  Or that you'd go forward and you'd need a quarterback three years from now and even if you're picking in the top five, the teams that are at one or two, wouldn't trade out."

And in a radio interview after the draft, he said "Then we looked at the landscape of our division, of this league, and we said to ourselves 'how many teams are we going to be competing with for a quarterback if we don't get one this year or next year? Take the time to just look at our division. Romo is 36, Eli is 35, Kirk Cousins is on a one-year deal.  Look at the final four teams last year, they went ahead and drafted Lynch.  Arizona, Carson Palmer's 37, Tom Brady's 39. We're just picking eight teams right there."  "When we looked at this, we said 'holy cow' there might be 10 or 15 teams in the next two years looking for a quarterback. Where are they getting them from? For us, it made too much sense to not do this."  See Radio interview report.

Obviously Roseman thought there would be talented QB prospects worth taking with at the very top of the following drafts - If he didn't, he wouldn't have been analyzing and talking about the difficulties of trading into the top two spots in future drafts even if you had a top 5 pick.

Titans wining basically guarantees the div crown is wrapped up.

With KC, NE, BAL, CLE, and LAC winning, same goes for the Wildcard spot.

Like I said earlier, top 12ish pick should be coming our way, barring injury.

I mean that's pretty damn perfect isn't it. They are in the hunt for a wildcard spot but ultimately may fall short.

At this point, I think the Birds will have a lower pick than the Colts.

The Colts are one game out of the WC spot.   They are going to have some easy games coming up against the Texans and Jags.  The Colts go no worse than 2-2 in the next 4 games before the bye.  They could then go ahead and lose the last four games for all I care, but by then, the die is cast and Wentz will have played the necessary snaps (assuming no injuries between now and the end of their 13th game - 1 week after the bye).   They will be in the WC mix through 13 games, and can't bench him with the way he's playing right now.  And their games in Weeks 15, 16 and 17 are games they could lose.  Week 18, they should beat the Jags.  So, the last 4 games might be 1-3... the next 4, 2-2... and that puts them at 7-10 on the year.  Maybe pick 12-16.

Eagles also have a lot of 'easy' games coming up against both NY teams, Washingteam, etc.  I don't see how the Eagles end up with a record above 7-10, outside of a Dallas 'tank' for a pseudo-bye before their playoff game.   The last 6 games are all winnable (assuming a Dallas 'bye' week 18), but 0.500 is about where they will end up.  What about Denver and New Orleans?  I think those games are also toss ups.  With 8 games left to play, I think 4-4 record the rest of the way is about as optimistic as anyone can really be... maybe they squeak out 5-3 if they can make either Bridgewater or Simien look like they made Darnold look against the Panthers.  Gannon's defense will be much 'better' against the upcoming opponents, just like it was against Ryan, Darnold, Garoppolo and Goff.

Potentially both the Eagles and Colts picks could be knocked into the teens. Hopefully the Dolphins keep losing, but if they keep beating bad teams it will hurt that pick too.

What percentage are we at now and how close are we to that 2nd rounder becoming a 1st rounder, at this point?

5 more games will almost certainly get it done.

Colts will certainly still be in the mix over the next five games to keep playing Carson not that I think they would bench him for anything other than poor play anyway.

The Colts pretty much have no chance of winning their division right now. Despite being behind several teams, they could easily get a wildcard since so many teams are within a game of each other. As far as the Eagles go, yesterday's loss was huge in terms of them getting a top 10 pick. With their upcoming schedule it's going to be difficult for them not to win a few games and end up picking in the 11-15 range.

Eagles are 9th on the list.  It's amazing what garbage time and playing the Lions will do to help stats!

Just be glad that he is staying healthy and well enough to keep the organization invested in him. He's playing really well right now for the most part.

Yeah until he has a bad game and then everyone starts saying he is getting benched and the organization hates him lol.

I neither hate Carson nor am I sweating the pick.

If anything I am disappointed ... when we drafted him and after what we saw his rookie year I thought for sure we finally found our franchise QB.  It is such a huge bummer it didn't work out.

And regarding the pick, I am obviously extremely hopeful we get the 1st (**knock on wood** but I do think we get it).  I just think it is fun to track the weekly progress toward that.

All that matters is Carson is still playing. All you clowns crying over this dude and his career 3 games over .500 as an Eagle are a joke. How are some of y’all gonna talk about SB capable quarterbacks when you’re worshiping a dude who never won a playoff game? Get a clue.
