Yeah he’s not good, better than I anticipated, but I had zero expectations.

His trudunken commentary was pretty legendary. As well as Newton’s head with the heat. Aikman trying to grow a beard was pretty hilarious

Interesting to note…of every team with an extensive COVID list (which is almost everyone and includes the Eagles), the Eagles have definitely managed to have the least amount of talent on it.  It’s like we locked half the bad players in a room with a Covid patient.

That was just the sound of the NFL of my youth.  Now we have Vilma...sigh.   If you haven't read his books "One Knee Equals Two Feet", "Hey, Wait a Minute (I Wrote a Book)" and "One Size Doesn't Fit All", I highly recommend them.

Two other great football books are "Paper Lion" and "The Sweet Season".

For those who might not know, "Paper Lion" is one of the handful of books where George Plimpton, the author, would join a professional team and go through everything.  The Alex Karras stories in the book are fantastic.

"The Sweet Season" follows D3 school, St. Johns and their record setting coach John Gagliardi.  He had such a unique style of coaching and it's just a fascinating book and story about his career and that program.  They were one of the first D3 programs to actually have D1 guys transfer down.  Great book.

paper lion, seen the movie, alan alda

The thing I respect about Madden is he knew football was suppose to be fun. We are suppose to root for our team to make the playoffs. People are more interested in the cap, the draft, analytics. We have have a great chance to make the playoffs. Let it be fun.

Oh no Hurts under threw the ball. Smith caught it but i cant enjoy that play because it wasnt a perfect pass. Why even watch football if you’re gonna be that way?

Please don't use that phrase.  My daughter had a learning disability.  She was able to overcome it, graduate from college, and even get a graduate degree.  But growing up, she had to deal with the stigma of being transported in a different vehicle.  It wasn't fair.

Please find a different way to insult someone.

I am being very serious.

Good for her, you must be very proud. 👍

As a kid I loved hearing the way Pat Summerall said "Philadelphia”.

On the verge of being a Pro Bowl QB who took his team to the playoffs in his first year as a starting QB after the team went 4-11-1 last season with truly awful QB play.

Shh, that doesn’t fit the narrative. Remember if we don’t hate our players then we aren’t being realistic.

Couple times, I think the majority of hurts big runs though have come on when he just runs out of the pocket on a pass not on a keeper on an RPO

The point being though that hurts has the ability to get more yards in a rpo keep than Minshew just because hurts is a better runner.

Just like Sanders is more likely to hit a 40 yarder in a similarly blocked run over Howard because Sanders has breakaway ability where as Howard not so much, and at the same time Howard will more often take less negative plays than Sanders as well on similarly blocked plays.

Don't want to split hairs here, but RO.  Hurts wasn't capable of a simple read and keeping his eyes on a spot for a 1/4 second so the RPO was scrapped from the playbook.  Maybe he'll get good at it in the off season and we can revolutionize the NFL with the Double R PO!

Nah, if we don’t think we can win a sb with a running back under center then we must hate our players and be miserable fans.

Yeah pretty much. Good job hitting the nail on the head. Be as sarcastic as you want but it’s true.

Yep.  Certainly not a "real fan base”’like the WFT has.  Right, @RememberTheKoy?

You’re as miserable as they come😂

Damn this blog has really hit the ****. How about just root for the Birds to win. Isn’t that the point?

Exactly

but if we calculate it right, we can get the exact draft pick that could win us the super bowl. BUT they will drop a pass or fumble the ball or miss a block or let a TD happen and yet again NEVER BE EXCITED ABOUT A WIN

Cunningham's only good coach was Sid Gilman, brought in as a consultant. Rich Kotite as OC also got a god year out of Randall. If he doens't get injured in 1991, they probably win the SB that year, that defense was that good, and Randall with Byars, Barnett and Jackson could have produced enough offense.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2016/07/01/dr-z-paul-zimmerman-sid-gillman-sports-illustrated-nfl

When Marion Campbell was coach of the Eagles, he hired a consultant, Sid Gillman, to work with Cunningham on learning the game. According to Merrill Reese, "Sid once gave Randall a film with a piece of paper in the film about a quarter of the way through it. The next day Randall brought the film back. Sid asked if he watched it, and Randall told him that he did and that he learned from it. Sid took the film and saw the paper in the exact same spot."

I was also glad to hear Steve Young acknowledge his running ability during his speech - mainly because I had a great note about his rushing stats that I haven't had a chance to use… until now.

"Sid Gillman would tie my feet with a rope and taught me that playing quarterback was an art form," said Young, talking about the Hall of Fame coach and passing guru who coached Young in the USFL. "He'd proudly say, 'This is not a game. It's a canvas and you are Michaelangelo.' I loved Sid. He convinced me not to listen to the many people who believed at the time… that you could not be a great quarterback if you could scramble. Go figure. That never made much sense to me anyway."

For the record, Young ranks second on the all-time list among quarterbacks with 4,239 career rushing yards. Randall Cunningham is tops on the list with 4,928 yards, but it's worth noting that three of the top four rushing quarterbacks are in the Hall of Fame - Fran Tarkenton is third and John Elway is fourth.

Take it even further, and six of the top 17 rushing quarterbacks of all-time are in the Hall - Bobby Layne ranks 12th, Roger Staubach 16th and Terry Bradshaw 17th.

He was getting ready to play CB in college because he’s a lefty.
