Baker Mayfield is trash though.

Find me a video of an NFL defensive coordinator saying he cant read a defense in a playoff game.

@Outlaw you can steal this one, the added benefit is if you quote me he will put you on ignore, because he is a coward.

He's a young QB that showed consistent improvement throughout college and now throughout his professional career and helped get this team to the playoffs in his first season as a starter.  I'm quite okay to see seeing what kind of leap he can make in year three.

Baker Mayfield is trash though.  He is someone who throughout his career has made continued costly stupid decisions on the football field.  He also clearly has an ego that won't let him handle the business side of professional football.  He doesn't offer an improvement at QB.  He is not someone that you would want to invest your franchise in with a large contract.

What has Hurts consistently improved at? Accuracy? Footwork? Reading a defense? Going through his progressions? He hasn't improved at all. He's the same player I watched at Bama and OU

Mattisse Thybulle is "young" too.  He is bound to break out and start hitting 3's next year.  Just wait!

I dislike Hurts as a QB as much as the next guy but what?

I haven't watched a ton but I have seen enough of Hurts to know he isn't the guy.  We know you got a hard on for him but can't you admit that he isn't the future?  It is ok to be wrong.  I am all the time.

Jalen Hurts could or could not be the future.  The book on his career has not been written.  He's only 23 years old.  Already took the team to the playoffs in his first year as a starter.  This season will be the first time since high school that he has been able to play under the same offensive coordinator for consecutive seasons.  It's fairly reasonable to expect that Jalen Hurts if he starts this season will advance further as a player and could potentially make what some would describe as a leap in his progression as a player.  The Eagles have nothing at all to lose in seeing if he does.  If he stays stagnant to what he was in his first year as a starter then yes he most likely is not the answer long term.  But it is also entirely within the realm of possibilities that someone with his drive, work ethic and passion for the game will continue to improve in his 3rd year.

And there just isn't any downside to seeing that playout.

When you play teams that your are so much better than and have 3 of the top 20 WR in the college, you can look "ok".

Yeah it would. Also removes one suitor for Dillard.

Dillard only playing LT removed him. The bengals left tackle wasn’t the issue. They had Jonah Williams who was actually their only good olineman. Had a 77 grade by pff

I never thought he looked good in college

He could get better and still stink.  Serious question, do you watch any of the film after the games?  Did you see how many guys were wide open where he didn't even look in their direction.  Over and over and over again.  So now all of a sudden his vision will come and his arm will get much stronger?  Work ethic only gets you so far.  This is the NFL.

Let’s not get carried away here. This was an anti-Baker argument, not pro-Hurts. Hurts has shown negligible improvement throughout his career, specifically his accuracy, reads, and decision making.

Negligible improvement?  He improved considerably as a passer from his time at Alabama to later at Oklahoma.  After his brief rookie season all the discussion over the offseason was he had a 52% completion percentage and it was entirely unrealistic to think that he could improve that more than a few percentage points.  His completion percentage increased almost 10% from his rookie season into his second season.  His passing across the board improved from his rookie year to his second year.  There is still plenty of improvement to go, after all he is a very young QB who just finished his first year as starter.  But to call an improvement from 52% to 61.3% in one season as negligible is just inaccurate.

I thought consensus was Howie is Lurie's puppet?

Nope, I don’t buy into that.  But Lurie’s background isn’t as a self made billionaire but rather as a silver spoon kid.  Took a gamble financing his bid for the Eagles and it paid off.  So he leans heavily on executives.  But it is clear he likes to participate in management processes and likes consensus. Note the lack of a forceful voice in the Eagles management group. I think Lurie likes Howie’s style and that gives him a bit of a blind eye.  Problem as I see it is the buck doesn’t stop anywhere.

Accuracy for sure.

Yeah, there is nothing better than running around in circles to pique fan interest.

Mattisse's three point percentage has gone down every year.  Instead of showing improvement from year to year, he has gotten worse from year to year.

No

Baker does the same stuff but then just throws a pick right in a linebackers chest

His completion percentage for passes over 20 yards is probably an incomplete.  He can't see or throw that far.

To me, he is on the same trajectory as Hurts....a new team next year.

Unfortunately, only when he wants to.  The ability is there but he reeks of Reagorlike laziness. (Henceforth being monikered Reagor syndrome unless and until he self cures).

Interesting. Didn't know that. Explains why he dropped in mock drafts.

Don't worry. He's high on Howie's board

It’s the end of the day. My tolerance for dealing with BS is far down at this time of day.

Jonah could easily play RT, he played a lot there in college. Opposing team’s best pass rushers are all now mainly on the left side. Dillard to LT, Jonah to RT. With their interior additions that could have worked great. Collins will come in as a RT though and their 5 should be just as good if not better though.

@Outlaw you're slacking brah. Cross off Douglas and Jack on your wishlist
