1 - How would you sum up Pascal’s stint with the Colts?

In a word? Improbable. Zach Pascal was an undrafted free agent who fought his way tooth and nail into a position to be the Colts’ 2^nd ranked receiver in yards in both 2020 and 2021. He led the team in 2019. He is the kind of player who will keep his head down, work hard, and give you reliable production in whatever you ask of him. You won’t hear players or coaches saying unkind words about Pascal, because he is a well-liked member of the team and community.

2 - How do Colts fans feel about the team not re-signing him? Right move to let him go?

By and large Colts fans are happy to see Pascal go. This is not really a reflection necessarily on Pascal himself. However hard a worker he is, there are clearly limits in his ability to get separation. Much of his production can be attributed to Frank Reich’s ability to scheme receivers open, and when facing good defensive backs in games when they absolutely needed someone to make a play, Pascal wasn’t setting himself apart as a guy who could do that.

During his 2019 season, Pascal had some of the best hands on the team, and regularly made clutch plays in critical downs. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that same player as consistently. In fact, his position as the 2^nd receiver in yards over the past two seasons says more about the state of the Colts receiver room than it does Pascal himself.

Performance incentives are not part of Fournette’s 2022 contract, only for 2023 and 2024. In all, the Bucs can dump Fournette after this season and they’d have coughed up/committed only $9 million.

A lot of draft projections have the Eagles taking a corner early, with Stingley dropping to them.   Unless they think the next Slay has dropped to them, I don’t see it.  I think, if they draft a CB at all, they wait.  I would have been thrilled to walk out of last year’s draft with McPhearson, Gowan and Vincent (the latter as a slot or FS, because at last year’s draft it was unclear Maddox would be extended - now I see him as FS because Maddox and Scott have the nickel covered.). Now Vincent and Gowan are raw.  Only Dennard Wilson and Gannon (a secondary coach coming up) know how Gowan and Vincent look.  Dak was pretty rough on the back up DBs in the starters versus bottom of the roster game but that isn’t much of an indication. There was little to no pass rush that game.  I would be surprised by a Stingley pick at this point. We will see how he does in the LSU pro day in a couple of weeks.  If he skips the broad jump, vertical, three cone and shuttle, that would be a red flag on his lis franc injury.

Hurts was well over 30% for much of last season.  Guys like Willis and Corral have very little chance of magically becoming proficient passing from the pocket in the NFL

Hurts stats are for 2017 & 2019.  He ran 154 times at Alabama in 2017, in 14 games.

The reality is:

QB's who rely on their athleticism to make plays rarely develop into being able to win from the pocket consistently. The reason is, they never had to prior, and those habits die hard. First sign of trouble or confusion, they take off(like Hurts where he does circles or bails out of clean pockets)

This is because they never learned how to read defenses post snap and go htrough their progressions. They learned how to make one read and go in Read option/RPO offenses. And in the NFL, defenses are better equipped to take that stuff away, as well as take your escape lanes. You need to be able to win from the pocket by digesting quickly what the defense is doing post snap and go through your progressions. IN the college offenses, it really is one, maybe two reads based on one or two players at the most. In the NFL a QB must read the entire defense, pre and post snap. 

It makes it very hard to transition in the NFL from a Read option/RPO style QB to a pro style offense. Their instincts take over under pressure, and everything they have been taught is "escape" when in trouble or confused. Sure you can blend the two styles, but you still need to be able to win from the pocket or you are doomed to mediocrity with winning. 

Guys like Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray and still trying to learn how to win from the pocket. Their athleticism will only take them so far.

$9 million is a lot for a RB.

The first night of the draft is really compelling television.  There are much fewer picks nowadays that are off the reservation, but when it happens it’s comedy gold — except for the times where it’s Howie as the guilty party.

News broke about 24 hours before the draft that the Browns were leaning towards taking Mayfield #1 but it was hard to believe until the pick was actually announced.  Same for the Giants taking Daniel Jones at #6.  There are usually 2-3 picks that seem out of nowhere

Time and time again teams have shown you can grab RB off the scrap heap and if you use them correctly they will succeed. 

 

In his prime , had a good year last year , and it can be a 1 year deal if Bucs choose  , he is a big part of that offense 

Mayfield and Winston have very very similar stats after 4 years. .

I’m in on Baker ONLY if the Browns need to offer something with him to sweeten the pot and get rid of him. For example if they were willing to trade Baker and their 3rd for one of our 5ths, I’m all in. Then we just need to figure out what we do with Hurts after Baker wins the camp roshambo competition and the starting job along with it.

It has to be one of the above and can't be how Howie and Nick are viewed around the league.  

I think if the Eagles had agreed to fully guarantee $230 million and one dollars Watson would be an Eagle. My bigger concern is missing out on Marcus Williams.  I think that has to do with scheme, FO and money. 

If I needed a QB , I would give a 3rd for Mayfield

Tampa could probably draft someone in the 3rd round, making peanuts and could put up 800/500 with Brady as the QB.
