If the qb is good they are going to demand a new deal after yr 3 anyway

valid point.

I don't buy that. I'm guessing they fill one of them with a FA and draft high for another. Who knows though, they could be content.

I think they’ll draft both. Once Harris re-signed, McLeod was done here.

Maybe Honey Badger falls into their laps, but there probably isn’t another obvious upgrade over Epps in FA. I’m not sure what’s left at corner beyond Gilmore, but I assume we’ll wait until after the draft to add one. If we get a tip two round corner, I don’t think we’ll sign one.

Hurts can get a Super Bowl ring here this year and I'm still not paying him a dime

Sorry but here I disagree with you. If Hurts somehow leads us to a superbowl win? I would pay him, but he has to be a good part of the win

A question for the Hurts Squirts @RememberTheKoy @Infam @jsb235 @austinfan and the rest of you.  Why do you so desperately want him to succeed ( and turn into something he probably never will ) ??

Is it the running QB fascination, is it the SWAG, what is it that makes you want this guy to be it, and not go get the next Josh Allen or Pat Mahommes ??

Strange question... Why do we want our QB to succeed?

Yes.  It has nothing to do with the fact he is the QB of the Philadelphia Eagles.

His draft profile negatives have not improved, he will never win games with his arm.   Why do you want a running QB to succeed so bad ??

I'm not a hurts advocate but if he turned out to be all the things the squirters proclaim he can be I'd be ecstatic.

One less thing to worry about.

Chances of that happening in my opinion, not great.

I think Afan just leans heavily towards a contrarian point of view.  I believe he knows what Hurts' trajectory is, but if Hurts somehow sets the NFL on fire then he'll be standing alone atop of some hill.

I would love to see who was the most commonly drafted player in all of the simulated mock drafts shared in the blog the past 3 months.  I would have to put my money on the Punter from SDS.

Zach Tom has to be up there

Heck I don't think Hurts will succeed but I still want him to.

I bet the bolded below is the main reason for more than half of his supporters.

I worded that very specifically on purpose

Because it's good for the team? Because chasing the next Mahomes, Herbert, Burrow or Allen means you have to risk picking the next Wentz, Goff, Mayfield, Trubisky, Winston, Mariota, Darnold, Rosen, Tua, Love, Murray, Jones, Haskins, Lock, Lynch, Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater, Carr, EJ Manuel, RGIII or Brandon Weeden?

Ultimately, in the next 12 months, I think there is a better chance that Hurts improves enough to be a top 10 qb than there is that we are going to find the next Josh Allen. Apparently you feel differently, which is fine. But I don't get why you can't wrap your head around the position of the so-called Hurts Huggers, and act like we are the ones who live in Morontown.

Look for more QBs and WRs in the first round than was expected a few months ago.

Exactly right, especially with how quickly both positions have been getting on the field and contributing compared to 10 years ago.

I think JAX could have easily drafted a WR at #33 who will make as big an impact as Christian Kirk -- at 10% of the cost.  Truly dumb, dumb contract.

Lumping all those QB's together in the bolded is incorrect.

Trubisky, Mariota, Tua, Murray, Manziel, RGIII would be the next Vick, not the next Mahomes, Herbert, Burrow or Allen.   Different type of QB.  And why did you leave out we could find the next Brady, Rodgers, Ryan, Big Ben, Stafford, or the next wave, Lawrence, Jones.

Just because they might flame out, does not mean you do not take a shot.  It is in my signature, the words of the owner of the team.

I get it. You want the team to blindly draft qbs until they hit on one. I understand that strategy. I just don't agree with it.

That is not at all what I want.  I want them to scout, analyze and learn everything they can about the QB's, and if all that work says that the QB has a higher ceiling than Jalen Hurts, then I want the team to draft him.  I want my QB to function from the pocket, have his passing be far superior to his running ability, and be able to win games with his arm alone when needed.

There are several QB's in this class that I believe would be better in year 1 than Hurts was in year 2, and two of them I would take in the first, and 2 others I would take in the second.

I would not draft Howell or Willis, would not really love Pickett.  If they deemed Corral is worthy of the 18th pick, I would support it.

If they drafted Ridder or Strong later on, I would be thrilled.

What a great post showing how big of joke some of you are with your Hurts hate.  Jalen Hurts could win a Super Bowl and you still wouldn't want to re-sign him. Classic.

It would depend on how he plays.  If he puts up really good passing numbers consistently and they win a SB then OK we can talk.

But if he goes the Peyton Manning in Denver route where they win a SB on defense and just managing the offense or the Dilfer and Brad Johnson route where they are just game managers then no.

This is a pretty interesting concept. Maybe you could share this knowledge with NFL teams, since I am sure they never considered this approach, which is why so many college qbs fail at the NFL level.

and if all that work says that the QB has a higher ceiling than Jalen Hurts, then I want the team to draft him...If they drafted Ridder or Strong later on, I would be thrilled.

So you are saying you think Ridder and Strong both have higher ceilings than Hurts? So why not draft them in the first round? If they can be a top 10 qb, why wait? I don't get your logic.

Here's a list of "QB needy teams" that have brought in a QB prospect on a visit. While they can still take a QB without using a visit, it would be pretty surprising to do that with QB specifically, especially in this class, in the top first half of the draft.

Lions: none

Texans: D'Eriq King

Giants: Sam Howell, Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis

Panthers: Matt Corral, Sam Howell, Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis, Bailey Zappe

Falcons: Sam Howell, Malik Willis

Seahawks: Desmond Ridder

Commies: none

Saints (if they decide to trade up): Sam Howell, Matt Corral

Kinda surprised with the Sam Howell love. Panthers are clearly going QB but it seems so far most teams are looking elsewhere.

Ridder will probably need a redshirt year, and Strong has injury concerns.

I keep thinking if a QB drops we trade either 15 or 18 for 32 and 34... Makes the most sense... Get Mafe and your choice of Safety (Brisker, Pitre, Cine, Hill) or someone like Pickens
