Nope.  The goal isn't to make 'splashes' but to add talent.  I have never cared about splash moves, making noise or any of that garbage.   Generally, the biggest name free agents and the biggest splash moves sink their respective teams.

I want SMART moves.  Not big moves, not splash moves, not look at me moves.  I want smart decisions... whether they are building, rebuilding or trying to maintain.   Howie has done a little better in the last year in that department.  But I don't want him to go out there and make 'splash' moves just because he has a little breathing room.  This team doesn't need a splash move.  Their biggest problem is the QB position... and frankly, none of the big moves at that position interest me in the least.

I really didnt say he was going to make a splash move. I said he can make some noise. He has a lot of money to spend. He can now bring in a lot of talent. And they can all be smart moves. I didnt imply differently. But you inferred it and ignored the rest of the post that could have lead to some decent football and roster building discussion.

Aside from a trade for Wilson, Watson or Rodgers, I think the only other splash move would be signing Davante Adams.  I don't think there's another big name FA.  I mean they could look at signing Anthony Barr or Hassan Reddick as a sort of splash move but depending on the cost I think those could be reasonable signings.

That's not a real person, is it?!?

He is the grandson of Disco Duck who went #1 back in the 1970s but people now don’t understand how that happened.

Adams knows who our QB is.  He wouldn’t even answer the phone.

Then why did they draft Smith if they were going to run this type of offense?

Smith ended up being an ideal fit for this type of offense, actually.  He’s an elite route runner, who has thrived as a great possession receiver so far. (Which is what this offense needs).

I’d like to see him get more opportunities on deeper routes, etc but the offense being what it is now, I think what they’re doing with him is fine.

Bringing in Harold Landry would certainly be a splash move and it would definitely fill a need for the Eagles but, assuming he isn't tagged, he will likely get north of $20 million per season with a truckload of guaranteed money. I don't think that will happen here even if he did hit free agency.

There are a lot of media people who think Hurts is legit. There are eagles players who have bought in to his hype since day 1. You see how they still stand behind him. There are a lot of people dumb enough to still buy this hype. He wont be a major deterrent yet this year.

I don't know who buys into him or not.   It's not a situation where the starter is coming back from an injury after the back up won the Super Bowl and is still on the team.

Obviously winning the offseason is not the ultimate goal. But it can hopefully help get you to your ultimate goal. I would think you would like them to make great moves. I guess if you dont like the GM though, making great moves is a bad thing.

Can we seriously not discuss any of the free agents I brought up? What has this place become. Just get sarcastic jabs in against the guys you dont like rather than having a decent conversation.

Yes.

If we sign Adams, I think it means we are trading for Rodgers.  That would be fun until he chokes in the playoffs and gets booed then holds out for a trade the following season.

Yup.  The players support him publicly, like they're supposed to do as his teammates.  Nobody is going to Howie IMO and saying "you've got to keep Hurts or it's going to be bad for the locker room."

Howie is likely to trade one of the 3 picks to next year.  This draft does not have many blue chips to choose from.  Better ship one to next year and hope for better pool then.  Also the 3 picks are bundled close together that would limit the choices.  Another possible move is to trade down for more 2nd day picks.  More picks and lower signing costs.

Possibly a team like the Jags who shouldn’t be looking for a QB in ‘23, if they believe Lloyd or Dean, or even a WR for Lawrence will make them that much better this season and beyond, they might give up their ‘23 first round pick for the Eagles 15th.  Unlikely though.

I like Woolen a lot, and Jones. Storm Duck may be the greatest name ever.

Woolen is pretty darn good for just switching to CB from WR in 2019, to have that footwork already, and he’s physical..  A 4.3 guy as well.
I tend to overate physical CB’s, it’s why Surtain was my number 1 last season, Sauce is this upcoming draft, then Stingley (isn’t) but Booth (is) my number 3.
Stingley is a tough one, if he could of turned Pro after 2019, 1 year outta HS, he’s probably a top 8 pick in 2020.

This upcoming draft is definitely deeper at WR than QB it's also really deep at defense, particularly DB and DL where I'd rather they focus their attention.

I get your point though in a pass happy league can never have too many WRs unless your QB can't pass.

I think place holder thing makes sense.

Either way I just hope Howie doesn't screw up the picks.

I'm a little torn on receiver. There's quite a few in the draft that would fit on the outside as well as FA. Not sure how rich I want to go with it. I do want a slot upgrade too, whether Kirk, Crowder or a draft pick like Wan'Dale Robinson. If they decide to go FA outside receiver then get me Robinson for the slot.

For people who are wanting the Eagles to upgrade at WR with a veteran.  There is a name to watch that I think becomes available in a trade this offseason if Broncos trade for Rodgers and they sign Davante Adams to go along with him since they just signed the Packers OC as their HC and the Broncos have always made the most sense for Rodgers since this all started a year ago.

With the young WRs on the Packers, if they signed Adams too to go along with Rodgers then that creates a potential odd man out situation.  They could keep all three but with how much Adams contract will be along with the addition of Rodgers and the new deal he will likely receive after trade makes me think Courtland Sutton becomes available.  Jeudy and Hamler are on rookie contracts.  With his injury history maybe there is a chance he is traded for a day 2 pick.  He'd give the Eagles that big bodied WR that everyone desires.  He is only 26 years old right now and he is under contract until 2026.

Yeah, he can go up and get the crappy thrown balls

Switzerland has a LOT of guns in private homes though they're not hand guns. What those countries don't laud is diversity. Yeah, I know this'll make me popular but they don't. That doesn't mean they're racist, just that they all live by the same rules. That is not true in the U.S. I remember a column by Walter Williams about growing up black in North Philadelphia. It was a LOT different that it is today, and in a good way. Wives not baby mamas, usually 2 parents in homes, children that mostly became functional adults, not fodder for the correction and rehab industries. How boring, huh?

Hate to say it, but you just described a lot of white, rural working class America.

Funny how economic depression and social dysfunction go hand in hand.

He gets paid a decent penny. I always liked him but he has some injury history and he was a little disappointing this year.

Maybe not all that interesting, but Zach Berman heard that Brandon Staley, Josh McDaniels and Arthur Smith all wanted Gannon to be their DC last year.

Agreed and have no interest in the QB trades.

As far as team building, you don't run the ball 70% of the time, and you don't pass 70% of the time (well, maybe Big Red).

So you don't pick WRs who can't run block unless they're so good they're great decoys, and you don't pick WRs who can't run routes and catch he ball.

You're going to have different packages in any case - and who knows what you'll need two years from now.

Just go with BPA within the parameters set by your schemes. People overthink this.

They don't have to. I grew up in what could be fairly characterized as white rural(certainly) America. Yes there were a few dysfunctional young people but they were very far from the rule. Lots of guns around but people were not shooting one another. Petty crime was not winked at by the community. You may not want to hear this but churches played a major role in the social fabric. But they were not political. Most kids went to Sunday School so we didn't learn our morals from Hollywood.
