Which LB's then? Reddick, Dean, Edwards and White? Does Taylor learn the outside LB role from Reddick, and utilize his speed to rush?

That's a good idea.  Despite the forced hype that Taylor looked good last year before getting hurt, he's in full Reagor/JJAW draft pick salvage mode.  If they can teach him a new niche to get some level of production, that's a win.

Calcaterra is another health risk pick by Howie and company. Maybe he can compete with Stoll for the number 2. And I think I saw Rodgers name on the PUP.

He's a 6th round pick who probably should have been a UDFA.  But in their defense, a lot of 6th round picks would have been udfa's if not for something random that one scouting department saw in them.

He's balanced.  Not slow, not a bad blocker, not a great blocker, not zach ertz, but has a field for route running, doesn't have spectacular or bad hands.  I suspect they were impressed by his story of coming back to football and by how balanced he is at TE.  He can probably be a serviceable backup at a position that presently lacks depth, so maybe a reasonable need pick.

It may have been the wine but I really think that my reading of the Twitter journalists reports on the first practice was the epitome of comic relief. I loved Lehigh but recognize practice for what it is. Can none of these "journalists” give the 4 Ws and an H that I was taught in high school journalism?  I know @ManuManu has a background actually working in it but has moved past it. I was a Communications (Radio/TV and Journalism) major long enough to get a Minor and realize most starve in the profession but at least we knew how to report.  An absolute on reporting on practice of D v O would be if it appeared the play was called to benefit offense or defense.

Everything now is about selling a narrative

well that and clicks/eyes to sell

I see him more of a hybrid coverage LB.  Not an edge rusher, where he'll have more of a risk of getting hurt.

He's got the movement talent and athleticism for it, but LB coverage is a bit unique in that it requires much more than athleticism.  He's been pretty bad in coverage so far since he's so raw as a defender.  Michael Kendricks is a better athlete than his brother, but was worse in coverage because he was stiff and undisciplined.  Kendricks probably would have been an incredible situational edge rusher like Reddick, but was never used like that.  Taylor seems so reminiscent of Kendricks to me.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has narrowed down the lists of candidates for election in 2023’s vote in the Seniors and Coach/Contributor categories.

There are 12 finalists in each group. Committees will meet in August to send three candidates in the Seniors category and one in the Coach/Contributor category to the full selection committee for consideration at their annual meeting early next year. All four candidates can be elected for induction in the Hall during that meeting.

In the Seniors category, the finalists are former Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson, former Eagles and Rams linebacker Maxie Baughan, former Broncos linebacker Randy Gradishar, former Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley, former Packers running back/defensive back Cecil Isbell, former Jets defensive tackle Joe Klecko, former Dolphins guard Bob Kuechenberg, former Rams cornerback Eddie Meador, former Falcons linebacker Tommy Nobis, former Bengals defensive back Ken Riley, former Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, and former Cowboys and Giants cornerback Everson Walls.

The Coach/Contributor finalists are television executive Roone Arledge, former Cardinals and Chargers coach Don Coryell, former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, former personnel executive Frank "Bucko” Kilroy, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, former Browns/Ravens owner Art Modell, former Lions head coach Buddy Parker, former Broncos, Giants and Falcons head coach Dan Reeves, Steelers owner Art Rooney Jr., former Raiders, Broncos and Washington head coach Mike Shanahan, former Rams head coach and longtime NFL assistant Clark Shaughnessy, and longtime NFL scout and personnel executive/current director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance John Wooten.

So, which four would you pick.

For me the Seniors, Ken Anderson (maybe the best QB at play action I have seen),  Bob Kuechenberg (Great Gs get no love), and the third was tough but I went with Klecko, who modernized the DT position.

The coach/contributor is extremely hard. Arledge v Rooney is who it came down to for me.  I have to go Rooney.

Coryell by a mile. His impact is still obvious today

Hated that pick

So we have a small, athletic LB who doesn't rush the passer and raw in coverage that we drafted in the 3rd round.  Sounds like a special teams monster to me.

Is Quez elegible for an extension yet? He's a player who would make a ton of sense trying to lock on a cheap deal if they can.

I would like it but I don't see it given how much Lurie hates those jerseys.  Wouldn't be shocked to see us move towards those Autism awareness green though that they use.

NFLN Preseason game schedule.  This isn't counting re-airs.  We are on live week 2, Sun Aug 21 at 1 pm vs. Cleveland.  Which is great, since this is the only game, I won't be busy and seems like it will be the game they will take the most seriously....(LOL).

You think Hurts will have the anal squirts again? It is the Browns after all...

I think we'll see what we saw last year.  Protecting the whole 1st team from getting boo boos and protecting the QB1 from getting exposed in a meaningless game.  I don't believe for a second he had the shiiiitts last year.  I think the message from the office upstairs down to NS got mixed up and they pulled the plug on Hurts, the last second.  Being dressed and looking fine in warm-ups and then all of the sudden can't play?  Yeah, I don't buy it.

The plan is to wait until meaningful games to expose the qb.

Players on PUP may not practice or play for first 6 weeks of regular season

They changed it to 4 games this off-season. And that’s if they are on regular season PUP at cutdown day

Oh, and putting Isaac Seumalo in the starting lineup on the first day of training camp practice in no way means that Sirianni is giving him the job. SOMEONE has to take first team reps at right guard, so why not put the guy with the most seniority there on day one and see how it goes from there? FWIW, I’d even give Dillard a look there.

It’s not just Seumalo being first man up. It’s what Sirianni said which was essentially he’s the starter and there’s no competition besides back end of the roster guys for back end of the roster spots.

9 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

And then hide him with a running game....right?

Yep, Aug 30 the team has to set the designation.  They just can't practice until then.

They can practice whenever at this point when they pass a physical

I heard the press conference too, and I didn’t hear him saying anything close to that.

"That is such an important group for the cohesion of the unit to be together and going, and Isaac (Seumalo) has been in that group for a long, long time,” the head coach said. "And he’s played really well, so (I) look forward to having him back. And then among the rest of the guys fighting for spots, it’s the more positions they can play, the better.”

You’re not unique.  Why is the opposite implied?

Because I’ve seen people argue that they hope the Eagles suck this year so that they can get rid of their starting quarterback. It’s a truly bizarre take.

This is the only hope we have.

They wont admit a mistake and bench Hurts.  Hurts is gonna get hurt, it just depends on where and how long in the season

Now that there's actual football stuff to talk about, I can't stay away. Updated my Ignore list and I'm good to go.

Happy to see @BigEFly, @FranklinFldEBUpper, @ToastJenkins and a few others chirping away.

And I totally agree about Don Coryell. I'm surprised that he isn't in the HoF already.

Maybe, but Minshew isn't the answer either.  I think they already know they have a problem.  They're just trying to develop the rest of the team until they fix it long term.

The ability to win in the playoffs would be better with Minshew.

It's a simple thing. Seumalo, IF HEALTHY, is a better guard than anyone on the team not named Dickerson.

I've seen one poster with that position and, I agree, that takes the dislike too far.  The Eagles will evaluate the on-field talent and as fans we have no practical alternative but to cheer for the 53 guys in uniform on game day.

I will always say up front I have a bias against the "dual-threat QB", because few of them in reality are dual threats.  They default to running because that's what has worked for them through college and, almost invariably, they hit a ceiling quite quickly in the NFL where they are unable to win by distributing the ball when necessary.  I have concerns that is what we will see this season with Hurts.

I also have concerns that Eagles fans are being sold a bill of goods on a player that doesn't line up with the reality.  There is a narrative that Hurts has a superior work ethic -- I don't see any evidence he works any harder than any other NFL starting QB, if as hard.  I also mentioned a concern yesterday I have that Hurts won't give direct answers to any questions about his play, his plan to improve, etc.  Could just be my bias, but I have concerns about his leadership abilities.

I'm fine with Hurts getting the opportunity this season to improve.  I just hope the Eagles treat any decision on a contract extension purely on merit, because it doesn't seem like his iron-clad grip on the starting job has been based on merit.

Who has made that take.  I have seen a bunch of people question Hurts ability to improve, point out his faults, and are ready for the new QB in 2023.

Name one person who has said they want the Eagles to suck.

Nobody works harder than Tom Brady.  To say Hurts work ethic is superior to every QB not named Tom Brady is ludicrous.
