I didnt say that. What I did say was the dude cleared wavers, was a 7th round pick.

So that means every team had...6-7-8(224) chances to grab him,  he couldnt make one of the worst rosters in football,  but I'm supposed to believe that he's going to be a good signing and we need him here.

Eagles did have a chance to grab him, as did other 31 other teams, and he didnt get picked up. So yes, I think 32GMs, 32HC's and 32 Head scouts know what they're doing collectively.

Pass.

There's a long list of UDFAs that ended up being pretty good football players.

I'm not saying Melton would be anything other than a lottery ticket. To just say "every team had a chance to draft him so he must suck" is stupid.

By the way..any word on who our kick returner is going to be?

Sirianni was evasive about it at his presser.  We have an open spot on the 53.  We can activate or elevate Covey.

They don't need to do anything official for at least a week.  Patience.

Claimed Sermon so no open spot. But there are PS call ups each week

I know that, but I also don't think it would be a bad idea to have an extra guy on the bench should someone go down with an injury. We aren't going to ruin the 53 by having an extra WR around.

But why does that "extra" WR need to be on the active roster rather than the practice squad? You can activate guys off the PS to play in games (granted there is a limit to the number of times for each player) so really it's the same thing.

The Eagles will still have five WRs in uniform against the Lions. One of them will return punts. One of them will return kickoffs. (Though I'd prefer Gainwell over Watkins, to be honest.)

So yes, I trust the hundreds, maybe thousands of scouts/gms/coaches over hazelton.

Hundreds and thousands of scouts missed on players like Priest Holmes, your boy James Harrison, Rod Smith, Antonio Gates, Tony Romo, Nigh Train Lane, Kurt Warner, just to name a handful. Those hundreds and thousands get it wrong sometimes.

@Alphagrand do you want to revise your Sunday prediction copied and pasted above?  Lots of new information.

Hmmm .... a few minor adjustments.  I'd put the Eagles at 11-6 due to the CGJ acquisition to improve the secondary.  I'm shaky on the Bucs and Titans as both appear ripe for a fall, but I'll roll with it.  Tyron Smith getting injured was like the sun rising -- it was bound to happen.  I think the Pats could be pretty awful this season with Patricia and Judge running their offense.

NFC West — Rams 13-4, Niners 11-6, Cards 8-9, Seahawks 4-13

NFC North — Packers 12-5, Vikings 11-6, Lions 6-11, Bears 2-15

NFC South — Bucs 11-6, Saints 9-8, Panthers 7-10, Falcons 5-12

NFC East — Turds 11-6, Eagles 11-6, Commanders 9-8, Giants 5-12

AFC West — Chiefs 11-6, Chargers 10-7, Broncos 10-7, Raiders 8-9

AFC North — Bengals 11-6, Ravens 10-7, Steelers 7-10, Browns 7-10

AFC South — Titans 10-7, Colts 10-7, Jaguars 5-12, Texans 3-14

AFC East — Bills 13-4, Dolphins 11-6, Patriots 6-11, Jets 5-12

Brandon Marshall, LB, was drafted 5th round, put on Jax PS, and claimed by Denver. Turned out pretty good.

Arian Foster was an UDFA, signed to the PS. He turned out OK.

Rod Smith was also a UDFA, signed to PS. Another one.

James Harrison was cut 4 times and brought back, finally figuring it out.

It happens, not often, but it's not unheard of by any means that scouts just get it wrong sometimes.

@Bacarty2 well I'm glad to see you gave up. You have less fight in you than Dillard it seems (according to some posters)

Yes, another one, though he was a TE converted to OT, and struggled a bit in Buffalo. We had to trade a first to acquire him. Those other guys were free, which Melton is too, which is the whole point. It costs nothing to bring him in, even if he does in fact suck (which he might). But he has prior return and gunner experience, and we have an empty 5th WR spot. Yes, we have our own PS guys that could get the call up, and that may be what ends up happening. But defaulting to 'he was passed over by all the other teams so he must suck" is just lazy

@EaglePhan1986 pm'd me pics of his greendick fracture which apparently does happen in adults.  His was due to a rare strain of gonorrhea combined with an unhealthy sex addiction.

53 man rosters, on 32 teams is 1696. (yes I know there wasnt 32 teams in 1995, but I'm also not counting any PS players, roster expansions etc)

Rod smith came into the league in 1995 so that was 27 years ago.

27 years with 1700 players(i rounded up just for you) is 45,900.

Congrats on the 4-5 names over the 45,9000. Even 450 players to do this is less than 1%.

Lol there's far more names than that....I just listed a few to start

Just now, Bacarty2 said:

and I gave you 445 names on top of the 4 or 5 you mentioned and it's still less than 1%.

Assuming you're talking about the tight end call where the ball hit the ground?  Just curious how was that the wrong call?  Also should this be a targeting call

He had the ball in both hands not moving. It then touched the ground but he already had it secured. Whats more, when it did touch the ground, even though he took 1 hand away the ball STILL didnt move. It never moved in his grip at all. It was a clear catch and easy call to make. Refs couldnt have been more wrong. Embarrassing to be so wrong even after having the benefit of the replay system.

you're trolling right, you gotta be trolling with some of the names you want.

A 7th rounder who cant crack the lineup on one of the worst teams in the league but you wanted him here?

Couple days ago on a dude who's been cut from 2 bad teams, cleared wavers and ended up on a PS, but you think he should be here?

Gotta be trolling.

Well, we know you dont watch college football so Im not surprised you dont know these players.

He doesn't need to sit on the roster at all times. My point being that it would be stupid to go into a game with only 4 and even more so if we plan on using one for kick returns.

With the new PS rules, the roster size is 53ish.

Both Howie and Siri have referred to having 70 guys available.

Drew Pearson, Wes Welker, Antonio Gates, Larry Little, Brian Waters, Joe Jacoby, John Randle, Cameron Wake, London Fletcher, Sam Mills, Jessie Tuggle, Dick "Night Train" Lane, Emlen Tunnell, Willie Brown, Adam Viniateri, Jeff Feagles.  These are just the names I know on this all time undrafted team.

Another all time UDFA team that has Bart Scott, Cliff Harris, Michael Bennett

Here is all the undrafted hall of famers

https://stacker.com/stories/36402/undrafted-nfl-players-who-made-hall-fame

Hall of Famers by round

4th round - 9

5th round - 7

6th round - 1

7th round - 9

UDFA's - 16

What this tells me, taking a shot on a guy is worth it, and you cant hate the idea because 32 teams passed on  him.

Edited to add : bacarty is another one that has me on ignore hiding behind reasons, but the real reason is he hates this happening to him, so he comes up with fake reasons to hide from me.  Good thing the mods won't let him hide from my bets.

Nope those guys all sucked.  I'm gonna dig my foot in the dirt and die on that hill.  I trust the scouts.  The scouts!!!

He didnt. He had it in his hands first. And after it touched the ground, it never moved in his hand. If the ground didnt change his grip, it didnt help him. He maintained the SAME grip that he had, BEFORE it hit the ground.

Just because a ball touches the ground does not mean it helped, and does not mean a pass is incomplete. A player can maintain control of the ball which is exactly what happened here, and the camera angle was perfect to show that on replay. And the refs still got it wrong.

You knew in advance what Calcaterra's 10 yard splits were? I'm impressed.

Obviously I would have looked that up, just like afan.

The point, we know who Calcaterra is.  Some of us are draft nerds, I read tons of profiles and watch a ton of guys, I do this to a fault after we draft players.

I also run the yearly EMB mock draft where we each person takes on an AFC and NFC team, and we do a full draft before the NFL draft. ( That reminds me, I need to go update the spreadsheet to see how many picks we got right )

I also buy magazines, Lindy's, Athlon as I love to read while I am eating breakfast and lunch on the weekends.

You older folks need to quit acting like you are educating folks about very simple things.

The ball hits the ground then he uses the ground to slide it into his chest.  He picked it up off the ground in clear day light.
