The Colts are good enough if you don’t take them seriously they’ll beat you. They beat the Chiefs, they’re on their way to beating Minnesota badly, and they nearly beat the Eagles. Look where the safety is aligned in cover 3. I’m taking about initial alignment for run defense purposes, not where they end up if it’s a passing play.

Correct. At the expense of dropping your two corners. Like is shown in the diagrams, the total number of underneath defenders is less with cover-3. The numbers advantage in stopping the run is with cover-2, not cover-3.
