Really interesting 1st pick. It’s pretty rare (and especially rare for the Phillies) to talk about a draft pick reaching the majors in the same year he was drafted. I normally hate using someone you project as a starter in the bullpen short term, but this guy was in the bullpen just last year. They really could get a look at him as a bullpen arm for the balance of this season with a quick tour through the minors and then stretch him back out next year with a full season in AA/AAA.

Tbh i think some of these guys are going to be BP for the future. I think Phillies and Dombrowski are irritated about not having guys in the minors worthy of being called up to try being a BP arm. Also tired of everyday deadline having to solve this issue and give away prospects instead of fixing the lineup

Just watching the clips of Wood. If his shoulder holds up, that could be the steal of the draft. His demeanor kind of reminds me of Max Scherzer.

Craig has a chance next year. Potentially 2nd and 3rd late next year likely if it goes well 2027 at some time. Wood technically probably could be a RP this year but fam graphs guy in a Phillies pod made the case if they were going to do it they’d have just done that with painter. So i think earliest we see him as he’s gonna be a starter is 2027

That would be horrible. I've heard a few podcasts say his stuff is what it is. Parking him in the minors vs pen this year when they desperately need help would be stupid, so you may be right because that is what they do.

Painter has had a few issues so that may be different coming off TJ.

Other issue is gotta get him signed and ramped up again. He hasn’t pitched in 3-4 weeks. So if you take 1-2 weeks to get him signed it’s August. Then needs a month of ramping up. He wouldn’t be ready til September.

Philosophically, I completely agree with shooting for greatness in the 1st round. The shoulder probably doesn’t hold up, but this talent is worth the risk. Good luck hitting that four-seamer.
