Kopech and Robert Jr.   for Mick Abel, Justin Crawford, Johan Rojas and Starlyn Caba.   Toss in Griff McGarry if needed.

Get it done, Dombro.

Definitely a mistake, but I don't think they had the players to offer in trade without sending him.   Still can't believe that team only got 1 WS win, and with the weakest team of the bunch, IMO.

Yup. The 08 team was definitely the weakest of them. I guess you could kind of make the argument for 09 because of Hamels not being what Hamels was for most of his career and lidge wasnt 08 lidge. but having Lee and Hamels. the belief that 1-2 punch was better than 08.

The 2011 team is still the team that haunts me the most. That team was absolutely loaded. It might be from top to bottom the best team I’ve seen from the Phillies in my lifetime. You had four legitimate aces. Your lineup was very good. And yet somehow they lost to the Cardinals. And it all could’ve been avoided if they would’ve just finished the regular season differently.

No way

The 2008 team had a lot of elite hitters.  Rollins, Victorino, Utley, and then Howard was very tough.  Still had Pat the Bat too.

Hoskins is a sub par baseball player. He was not, nor ever was, the answer to solving the Phillies offensive woes.

He’s a far better option at 5 hole then JT who’s hitting .205 and .167 with RISP the last two years. Hoskins is far better option then everyone they keep putting into that spot. Go look at their numbers they’ve struggled at the spot which was supposed to be where he’d hit before his injury. they’d have their struggles cause he’s not a perfect player. but i laugh if you believe the offense isn’t better off right now with Rhys in this lineup then doing what they have the last two seasons since his injury. Clearly Castro and whit weren’t it. And they built that roster in 2023 to include him along with adding turner. Much harder lineup to navigate with a hoskins then having marsh, Stott or realmuto at the 5 hole. I’d say casty but when he gets hit he tends to be lower in the lineup

just pointing out the last three years (playing 162 games) Hoskins was with the Phillies he averaged 29 home runs and 80 RBIs. It was supposed to be turner + hoskins for 2023. And if we make the argument Turner replaced hoskins then who replaced the stats Turner was going to give you with Hoskins? They really haven’t

I also thought Todd zolecki made a really good point with Turner and his struggles last year. Bryce Harper was missing time early in the season and hoskins got hurt along with the contract that  Turner got, he felt the pressure to have to step up and keep the Phillies a float with his bat. And got himself into a prolonged slump that he couldn’t really get himself out of until later in the year.

True, but they had Hamels and a bunch of spare parts for a pitching staff... oh, and Lidge.

The 2009-2011 teams had Rollins, Victorino, Utley and Howard also... but with way better pitching.  It just didn't work out for them as well.  Baseball is a funny game like that.

I know the kid only had a couple starts so far but he's looked solid and it would be awesome if he could turn into a reliable 5th/6th starter. Walker was terrible this year and now Ranger is injured and was up in innings anyway compared to his previous years.

Chisholm to the Yankees.

Tbh part of the reason wouldn’t be surprised if they go get 4th/5th starter because they want to go to a six man rotation. If Phillips can be a fifth starter then all you have to do is get one in a trade or hope that walker can be that. I don’t think they trust Walker, so I’m guessing they would like to get one just to hold up. I would’ve said Turnbull, but I’m not sure he is a starter when he comes back even if it’s 1 starter per week. Add on been nothing about his return

Over/under 5.5 hits for the Phillies today?

Tyler Phillips has been a revelation.   He's likely to get knocked around more as the book on him grows, but he's been special so far.

I like how he keeps his composure out there. Doesn’t get rattled. Very Ranger-esque when he first got to pitch in big spots

Seems like an overpay.  And they may get no hit by carrasco lol

Probably an overpay. The fact of the matter is the extra WC spot makes for less sellers and more buyers. So going to need to overpay to really get a difference maker (although feels like Seattle didn’t have too). This is why they should’ve been making more moves during the off-season because all it is going to cost you was money. Not overpaying in terms of prospects.

We did it. We scored and hit with RISP!

Baseball is a funny game.   Sometimes the team with the best record in MLB can do things right.  ;)

Not me. I’ll say it. Marsh is vastly overrated by the fan base and the organization. The stats have shown he basically has the same issues after 2 years of working with long/phillies that he had with the angels where he can’t hit LHP and is a platoon player.

Like to think this post inspired him today.

feels like Stott is beginning to get going.

Phillies did the most important thing that they needed to do at the deadline... which was tighten up the Bullpen.   Estevez is likely penciled in as the closer now, and Alvarado and Hoffman become the high leverage guys.   Strahm and Kerkering move to the 2nd tier leverage spot.

That gives the Phils the clear cut closer... and a RHP/LHP option for the highest leverage and the middle leverage.   And they can use a starter as long relief in the playoffs if they choose.  They don't really need more than that.  Soto, Ruiz, Marte... a bunch of 'meh'.  At least one of them won't be on the playoff roster.

He's a classic platoon guy.  Not really much more to say about him.  He's not developed against lefties yet, but he's hitting well against RHP for the most part.  Just a dip for him since coming back.  He's the counterpoint to Hays, which is why I think that was a good move.  I'd still love to see a CF upgrade, but it seems that's not going to happen.  Maybe they can find a pinch hitter that they could snatch up and take Wilson's spot on the roster.

I wonder if they use him strictly as the closer. Or if they play matchups with innings with him. Analytically the Phillies like to use guys in specific innings based off matchup. Like if it’s the heart of the lineup in the 8th they’d use Hoffman there and they did that with Alvarado in the past. frankly just leave him as the closer.

It would have been a much more fun game to be in attendance for if they played like this last night.

Also, it would have been more enjoyable if they weren't wearing those stupid blue uniforms.

I’m not the world’s biggest Brandon marsh fan. I’ve said this since they made the trade with the angels. I hated the value we gave up in O’hoppe. I’d trade O’hoppe but i didn’t want to use his value on a former top prospect that was regressing at the mlb level and you had to fix to be an everyday player. Imo could’ve used the value of a top 75 catching prospect that can hit to get a more proven commodity then having to hope you could fix him into an everyday CF.
