Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

Small sample size but i really don’t think playing hays everyday is the answer. I think it’s better with a marsh/hays platoon and going out to get a CF.

Hays looks terrible

Alvarado is horrible

Feels like every time our bullpen gets 2 outs they either implode or nearly implode.

Another series loss. Probably get smoked by the Yankees. Then a west coast trip. Not good

They need another pitcher for the pen and another outfielder.

So basically the nlcs and playoffs. You need to be able to hit with RISP. The HRs are eventually going to dry up.

also harper is 1 for his last 16

Frankly that’s only part of the problem. Like I posted in the tweet, they haven’t scored a run outside of a homerun since Wednesday. This series they are 2 for 16. Going to see the same outcome they had in the nlcs where they hit .230 but outside of game 2 they were .159.

I don't know what's worse, the Phillies trying to get on base without a homerun or Schmidt trying to make a joke

That is a close call

They had 1 hit the last 6 innings of the game. Yet we believe hays is the solution to their offensive problems.

That's 4 series in a row lost.

Soon to be 5 , Judge is going to send Nola's pitches to the moon

Life is too short.  I'll just enjoy the ride... and not fear the possible crash at the end.

This team is so bad

3-6  not what we wanted to see

The crash ending might not exist if the Phillies decide to actually make the move they don’t want to make. Castro wasn’t the solution last deadline and an actual bat vs. dbacks may have been the difference in multiple games that series. might be looking at the same issue this postseason cause they went with the lesser and cheaper solution

I’m thinking they go 9-13 in this 22 game stretch.

Like I keep going back to the NLCS last year and their postseason. They couldn’t hit with runners and scoring position. It was all about the homers and when they dried up, they really struggled. we can hate kimbrel and put some blame on him but the Phillies went 0-4 in game 3 with RISP. You go 1-4 or 2-4 that game is not tied at 1 and more wiggle room. Scoring 1 run and expecting to win is a tough way to win. Game 4 if the Phillies weren’t 2-7 with RISP. They easily should’ve had more than 5 runs in that game. This doesn’t take away from the fact that Kimbrell was bad in that series. But their risp was an issue all playoffs but covered up due to the amount of HRs they were hitting

They will lose the next 2 series pretty easily

Frankly I’d be surprised that 10 game road trip to Seattle, dodgers and dbacks if they go better than 3-7 with how they are hitting.

Fascinating how this group all goes dead together. Like a virus or something.

Hit's the nail on the head here

I agree with going in on pitching. Because you could never have enough of it. But at some point in time you have to score runs. They lost games 3,6 and 7 because they couldn’t score runs and pitching was asked to win games when they scored one, one and two runs. It’s really hard to win in the series when you’re only gonna score in four runs in 3 games and the dbacks begin pitching around your stars.

you can say well stars don’t step up, teams are going to pitch around your stars if the guys around them aren’t good enough or aren’t consistent enough. That’s what the dbacks kinda did after game two. You think they’re gonna pitch up Bryce Harper when they don’t have to pitch the Bryce Harper? no. We can say the hitting doesn’t have that silver bullet but when your solution to trying to fix the hitting woes (replacing hoskins and a terrible hole in your five hole) are Castro, Austin Hays, and with merrifield your solution hasn’t been very good. Frankly, you’ve gone on the cheaper method of fixing it.  at the end of the day if you wanna go that route, you usually get what you pay for.

example: Alex Bohm comes up runner at 2nd with realmuto behind him. Why am i going to pitch to Bohm who’s good with RISP and driving guys in? Meanwhile realmuto is hitting .167 with RISP behind him. I’m gonna either pitch around Bohm and see if he chases out of frustration or just not let him beat me cause the analytics say realmuto is far likely not to do damage and if he does tip of my cap
