Time for @FranklinFldEBUpper to do some reconnaissance on Zentner.

I’m afraid that Shaun Bradley ship sailed a long time ago. I’ve seen enough of him to feel confident in saying he ain’t never gonna amount to anything. I thought the Eagles did him a favor by putting him on IR near the end of the year instead of outright cutting him when it was obvious they needed to free up a real roster spot for Elisssss.

I’m not optimistic about Bradley making the 53man roster.  If Franklin is right, and I believe he is, then Bradley’s only value is on Special Teams, and I’d probably prefer giving one of the newbies like  VanSumeren a shot there.

Not a high bar for Nakobe to overcome physically … does TJ have a slightly better frame to hang some weight, maybe, but surprisingly he has shorter arms.

Eagles are more than fine on the DL.

DT:  Cox, Davis, Williams, Carter, Elliss, Tuipulotu

3-4 DE:  Wiliams, Carter, Street, Ojomo

4-3 DE:  Kearse, Graham, Barnett, Jamarius Robinson, Tarron Jackson

Robinson is my sleeper, 4th rd pick by Minn in 2021, red shirted last season with the Eagles, still only 24 with good size (6'5 266) and great athleticism [4.69   1.64   25   4.46   7.31   34    10’1]

Hargrave was actually quite bad against the run.  Suh & Joseph were solid but they weren't as good as portrayed.  Carter & Davis should be a good pair against run.

They definitely need to bring in more competition there

Devon Allen has had an NFL year to get reacquainted with the WR position.  He was pretty good in college the one year he really played (other year was coming off an ACL).  He was green in routes because of the lack of experience. Also note in HS he was a returner as well and tore his ACL at Oregon on a kickoff return.  A year older than Ward but faster.   Another WR with a bit of speed on the roster is Tyrie Cleveland.  Bounced around the NFL a bit. I wonder if they might not also look at the XFL players a bit.  9 WRs to 17 DBs for 90 man roster seems a bit light so I expect some more WR signings.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Allen

Something else to note about Hargrave, dude was basically useless when playing through injury. Dude was barely playable for a good part of 2020 and blah for parts of 2021. Had awesome injury luck last year, but betting on that to continue at age 30? Eh...

I don’t care what you say, run defense is a concern. We lost our best two run stopping DT’s (Suh & Joseph) and probably have the smallest LB crew (Morrow & Dean) in the league. If I were an opposing offense, I would pound the ball at this defense, while keeping the ball away from our offense.

1. Davis was our best run stuffing DT before he got hurt. 2. Suh I would bet is one quick phone call away if needed. 3. Who on our schedule is going to "pound the ball” other than Saquon? It sure isn’t Pollard and 5’5” Deuce Vaughn. Outside of Henry and a very small handful of others, there aren’t a lot of "pounding” running teams. Speed at LB is more necessary than size against today’s offenses.

We are comparing the consensus best defensive player in the draft who is an absolute stud against the run in the SEC versus a guy whose own pre-draft scouting report and entire career proved he sucked against the run.

Should there be more discussion about Eli Ricks?

Is there a possibility we won’t have to draft a cb high next year?

If they could go into the draft exclusively with WR/OT needs next year, that would be incredible.

Behind Slay, Maddox, and Bradberry we now have the following as options at CB:

Kelee Ringo, UGA (roster lock)

Greedy Williams, LSU

Eli Ricks, LSU/Bama

Josh Jobe, Bama

Mekhi Gardner, LSU

Mario Goodrich, Clemson

Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech

Josiah Scott, Michigan State

So Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Ringo are locks. I think we keep 6. CB 5-6 is going to be the most fun camp/preseason battle to watch.

By this time next year, we'll be looking at another WR/OT and CB (probably). Thus, the cycle of not having great LBs and S, will continue.

This guy is overblowing the run D concern (at least relative to last year), but the team definitely needs a backup NT. If I see Marlon T out there again I'm gonna lose my s***

When you compare Morrow and White, what is your assessment?  I personally believe Morrow was miscast in Chicago playing the Edwards position.  He will be much better used here.

When comparing Dean and Edwards it is easy to see Edwards’ physicality as definitely superior to Dean’s, but especially with Carter and Davis playing in front of him, keeping him clean, I suspect that Dean will ultimately prove to be better than Edwards.

I would’ve preferred Dean at the Will and Morrow as a coverage guy off the bench. I think WIll is Dean’s natural position in the NFL. Would’ve liked them to address the Mike position and there’s still time, especially with Howie’s ability to make acquisitions.

I like Elliss FAR more than Bradley as a backup LB. I expect more competition brought in there. Bradley and Taylor are far from locks to make the 53 or even the PS.

Nakobe Dean was one of the most instinctual LBers I’ve ever watched in college. I truly think he’s going to far outplay his draft status. Having a redshirt year for the most part was a huge benefit to him. And for the one game he did play a ton of snaps, he led the team in tackles and made some (as expected) really smart plays on the ball.

I haven’t been this excited about the future of our defense since we had Troy and Bobby and Dawk and drafted Lito, Sheldon, and Michael Lewis.

Howie has set up this front 7 for success for years to come.

If Jordan Davis isn't the answer to the problem here, then that pick was a big mistake. So let's just hope he steps up and does what he was drafted to do.

Don’t forget …

Overview
Imposing space-eater with flashes of physical dominance against a level of competition that hasn't fully tested him. Elliss was a heralded prospect out of high school and began his career at Mississippi State before transferring to Idaho, where his dad (former Detroit Lion Luther Elliss) coached him up on the defensive line. He has the physical tools and power to make a living as a two-gapping, odd-front nose guard but will need to improve his technique and footwork to become a true tree stump in the middle against the run. Ellis has Day 3 potential with starting upside, but weight management will be very important for him.
Strengths
  • Size and power give interior blockers a problem.
  • Brute-force bully at point of attack.
  • Gobbles the gaps against lesser competition.
  • Easy bench-press power to extend and separate from blocks.
  • Active hands help to work through reach/seal blocks.
  • Good athleticism for his size.
  • Flashes potential as a pocket-pusher with his rush.
  • Son of a Pro Bowl NFL defensive lineman.
Weaknesses
  • Pad level gets away from him at times.
  • Hasn't developed technique to drop and hold anchor against double teams.
  • Elongated steps create moments of imbalance into contact.
  • A step slow working into tackle-ready positioning.
  • Inconsistent reading and responding to running back when two-gapping.
  • Looks to spin out of blocks instead of displacing them.

WR and OT, yes. CB I’m cautiously optimistic as not being a huge need next year with the plethora of dart throws they’ve made on young talent in Ringo, Jobe, Ricks, Gardner, etc.

I also think you’re going to be shocked how good Sydney Brown is. The kid is a heat seeking missile with a nose for the ball. Needs to get coached on wrapping up, but his versatility and his play style are going to make him a huge fan favorite very quickly.

Watch his zoom call on the Eagles app. This is a very intelligent young man who has really impressed me throughout the pre-draft and post-draft process.

We should sign #14 as a UDFA.  He has had lots of injury issues, but he is worth taking a Josh Sweat / Noah Elliss gamble on and carry him for a year of rehab on the IR.

14. New England Patriots: CB Noah Daniels, TCU

vt7tjmgtor8zlnnayajv.jpg AP Photo/Brandon Wade

The New England Patriots proved two things with their 2022 draft: They don't care about anyone's board but their own, and they weigh athleticism heavily in their evaluations.

Cole Strange and Tyquan Thornton were not widely seen as first- and second-round picks, but the Patriots took them in those rounds after great athletic testing.

That's why it shouldn't be surprising if they take a prospect like Noah Daniels higher than most will have him ranked.

Daniels is one of the few players on Bruce Feldman's Freaks List for The Athletic who didn't end up declaring for the 2021 draft. The TCU cover man warranted a spot on the list with a reported 4.27-second 40-yard dash as well as a 405-pound bench press and 400-pound clean.

He's a player that's going to dominate the combine when the time comes. The biggest question is whether he can stay healthy with a knee injury hampering his 2021 season.

Daniels has struggled to stay on the field with various injuries, but he's been excellent when he's able to play. He's given up just 18 catches for 293 yards on 38 targets, per PFF.

This would be a huge risk given his health, but it addresses a need the Patriots have after J.C. Jackson went to Los Angeles this offseason.

I worry about a Washington-type game where they ran at us all game long, not too effectively, but we couldn’t get off the field.

If you want to talk about next year, the Giants, Washington, the entire NFC West and New England can run the ball.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the CB/S situation.  The Eagles now have elite talent in Kelee Ringo, Eli Ricks, Greedy Williams, Josh Jobe and Mekhi Garner.  Are they all going to be elite in the NFL? Of course not, but they have elite talent and all 5 played at the top SEC schools, who are the top schools in the NCAA.  My gut tells me that Sydney Brown is the best from this class when all is said and done.

How incredible would it be if Greedy Williams had a light switch go on and he develops in to CB1 here and Eli Ricks shows he can be CB2.  Ringo is moved to safety along side Sydney Brown and Josh Jobe is your CB3.  I know it's far-fetched but the Eagles haven't had this much talent in the DB room for some time.

These guys aren't Michael Jaquet, Tay Gowan, Jameson Houston, Craig James and so on.

On the other hand, the LB room is the JAGGIEST of JAGS with hopes of Dean being the lone standout.  They will need to address LB.

You are talking about the first half. DC did nothing the 2nd half until the fumblerooski at the end.

The BS facemask fumble and the Quez brain fart fumble decided that game. The pathetic pattycake 15 yard roughing did not help either.

Dunlap made a career of it and was a starting OT in this league.  Not all bad with him.  I bet he outperformed some 1st and 2nd round OTs in his draft,

Nope, not at all.  Point being, he ended up in Round 7.  Those way too early mocks are basically an exercise in futility.
