It would be pretty cool to bring in Wentz for Wildcat snaps and have Hurts line up out wide as a decoy

I don't think he's going to be that expensive.

If he's more than $0 I don't want him anywhere near this locker room. He's cancer. A ginger-sarcoma.

I really think itd be smart to double dip with a Gonzalez/Witherspoon pick at 10, and then someone with inside/outside versatility before the end of the 3rd round. I love Clark Phillips if we just  needed a nickel, but I worry about him on the outside in the NFL.  I think someone like Cam Smith makes a ton of sense.

Hodges-Tomlinson could fit that bill as well.

I am fine doing that. Because you’re gonna need to find a replacement for Bradberry in two years anyways. However, I have a feeling that Clark Philips is going to find himself going at the end of the second round or beginning of the third round. So if you’re going to take Clark Phillips, I think you have to do it with your second round pick.

Question.

The money we get on/after June 1st for the slay cut, technically cant be used today. We dont have it till June 1st.

But, arent there some bonuses, like roster bonuses and workout bonuses that dont get paid till later? Like being in the complex working out in June, mini camps, etc... being on the roster after a certain date?

Couldnt we technically sign someone today with our minimal cap space, and instead of just signing bonuses, build in excessively large roster and workout bonuses since theyd be paid after we get that money?

yeah.

Someone who can move outside in a few years once Bradberry is cooked or gone. But play a lot in nickel now. Cause Maddox is guaranteed to miss a bunch of games.

And who knows, maybe we still eventually  move him to safety.

Him and Trask will battle it out , if both stink they will draft high in a very good QB class in 24 .

they are in a rebuild this year , lots of turnover and about to get much younger .

I have no idea one way or the other if that's legal or if the NFLPA would approve something like that. But one of the hesitations I think they would have is there is nothing that guarantees the team will have the cap space for that, so it might be like the franchise tag where they would need to have the cap space reserved ahead of time for it, which makes it's all pointless.

was just thinking if theres some free agent(s) the eagles want that they dont think will be available in June.... they could maybe do the opposite of what they usually do.

Usually they take salary and turn it in to bonuses. But, if they dont have salary to pay base salary or signing bonuses up front, make them the workout/roster bonus variety that get paid a few months from now.

Dont know.

Wonder if @downundermike knows. Too bad hes been chased away.

It's right up there with the LeBron/Miami decision. Though McAfee dropped an F-bomb on his show and NFLN picked up. 😂

82 out of 100 Howie's.  Nolan Smith is a good pick but it's another player the Eagles take in the first that gets minimal snaps as a rookie. In other words, probably the most Howie like pick on the board. I am not sold on trading out of the second for more late round picks next season.  The team is going to have a million and a half picks.  Good emphasis on fun names in the later rounds.  Juice Scruggs will be the first banjo player on the Eagles since Steve Martin's cousin Cecil.  Clayton Tune is the Eagles' first show tune singing sensation.

Yea, I get what you mean. Just saying, what's stopping the team from just spending all the money before the bonus gets paid and then saying "oops, we can't pay this now" and the can of worms that would then open.

From Aaron Rodgers on Pat Mcafee show just now:

Waiting for the Packers to trade me to NYJ. Decided to be a Jet back on Friday, GB is trying to fleece NY

By the way, as we all know there is a glaring hole at one of our starting CB positions right now.

Howie NEVER goes in to a draft with any glaring holes.

Strategically, I guess he doesnt want to telegraph his picks. Theres areas of weakness everyone can see. But its never to the point where you know his first pick has to fill this position.

Right now, you kinda have to figure CB is happening at pick 10.

There is no way Howie goes to draft day with that hole.

Theres not a lot on the free agent market. Its worthwhile to take a 2nd and 3rd look there, but also to begin looking at some potential trade targets similar to the darby situation. Someone on the last year of their rookie contract. Who is out there in that situation?

Some people have mentioned Okudah lately. Anyone else?

Based on the reports over the years of guys issues with him, it seems like a cancer in that role of staring QB where is the face and needs to assume a leadership role.  I don't see him being a cancer as a backup because he wouldn't be looked toward as this person in a role he isn't equipped to fulfill off the field.  No one on the team is going to care about the backup QB keeping to themselves or whatever they do in practice because they won't be practicing that much at all.  I think he is actually going to have e a prolonged career as a journey backup.

If the Eagles do end up signing him then I will have no issue with it, they could certainly do worse at backup QB.  The only better option out there would be Jacoby and I see Jacoby being a more expensive option as well though.

Before anybody says no way they do that. The Eagles signed Joe Flacco as a backup. I wouldn’t  be so sure that the Eagles don’t kick the tires on Matt Ryan if he is willing to be a back up quarterback. He is getting released.

He is the one miami should pick up

That’s my biggest concern. Bradberry wasn’t asked to be the number 1 corner last year nor asked to play at the level slay was the past couple years when he was traded/signed here. Which probably worked in his favor.

I still would’ve went the same route the Eagles did considering the fact he’s two years younger and it’s essentially a two-year contract over slay at 32 asking for three years guaranteed. But there’s a chance Bradberry is not nearly as good next year unless you somehow get another really good corner on the other side and that seems like the draft. I think now you’re almost forced into taking a corner in the first two rounds that needs to start right away. You don’t have the luxury of just going any direction you want with those top picks. It is a huge hole. Especially if you don’t resign Chauncey Gardner Johnson then you have two major holes in your secondary. And really we don’t know exactly what Reid Blankenship is as a starter for 17 games, so potentially three holes and you still need help at Lb and DT.

it’s still really early in the off-season and I’m guessing will have answers to these questions. but eagles have a ton of work cut out for them.

I don't think the Eagles played mutch matchup with Slay on the number 1 WR last season.  I think they both got receivers based on how the offenses lined up.  Additionally, if Slay was so good you would think Bradberry would have gotten more targets towards him.

Wonder if McPhearson has any trade value at all.  He seems like a guy without a job.  They aren't giving him CB2.  Maddox is slot.  Josiah Scott is his backup.  Josh Jobe is outside CB depth.

well, that is true. Although I dont see how that would benefit them. I would think they would be responsible and just spend what money they know they are going to be receiving on june 1st.
