Not a surprise at all.  I would love to see him get that big bag from the Eagles with no Signing Bonus but hefty Base Salaries making the total contract the same dollar value, and then have as an Eagles asset either to continue playing (unlikely in the long run) or to trade (much more likely).  The high Base Salaries can be restructured later by the team that trades for him.

of course that is a very long shot possibility, and if it happened it would drive @downundermike crazy.

On one hand you could argue the Eagles would want an answer from Kelce before Seumalo hits free agency; on the other hand it doesn't really matter because Kelce would very likely only play one more season.  Either Seumalo is in the Eagles long term plans, or he isn't.

It was mentioned by someone on here a day or two ago that the Eagles likely let Seumalo walk, move Jurgens in at center and have Driscoll fight for the RG spot at camp.  I'm inclined to agree with that assessment.

Yeah you can't pay everyone. Seumalo is a good player but one you probably have to let walk

I wouldn’t take him in the 1st at all.  When I first started getting interested in him he was projected for the end of the 2nd or top of the 3rd.  Still, I do like the potential, but not in the 1st … too many BPAs ahead of him there.

I take a flier on Diaby later in draft .

some front seven players I like .

Uzomah

Sanders

Dorian Williams

Mike Morris

Garrett Nelson

Pace

Byron Young

Ojomo

Dexter

Tuipuulotu

Kind of the opposite of the speculation that some in the blog had early in the season that Hurts was going to make AJ Brown want out of here so he didn't have to play with Hurts.

Mosher said he talked to two teams that have Seumalo as their top G/C entering FA. Sounds like he's likely getting a bag somewhere.

Kind of figured he would after looking at the FAs this offseason along the oline. He’s been underrated by eagles fans. The fact lane, kelce, brooks/Dickerson and even mailata and his story were so good and great that he’s considered a weak link and on another team he’d likely be one of their best 3 olineman in a league desperate for just above average olineman

I just don’t see how anyone from our vantage point could possibly be comfortable with putting Elliss in the lineup.

I respect your opinion and judgement.  I just don’t agree.  Spending north of $13 million per year to retain Edwards means less money for retaining other FAs that are significantly higher value to the team.  CJGJ needs that $13 million more than Edwards.  CB2 needs some of that $13 million more than Edwards.  Either Hargrave or Payne would be a better use of that $13 million than Edwards.

The same logic applies to the choice between Epps and Blankenship.  The idea floated by @ToastJenkins yesterday of moving Maddox into centerfield Safety is intriguing. Having a Safety trio of Maddox CJGJ and Blankenship is attractive, which means we need not only a CB2 but also a CB3, which brings us back to the best use of that$13 million.

I agree Seumalo isn’t in the Eagles long term plans, but it would be nice to get some value for him, not just $7.5 million of Dead Cap.

I know I’m being greedy when I say that,

Pretty sure they have a chance at a nice comp pick in 2024 when he signs. Looking at the FAs along oline he’s one of the best so should get a nice contract

I thought you were spiking your Weetabix with vodka when I first read this, but Spotrac lists Edwards' market value at $11.9M

That'd be a "no way" for me.  I'd rather find a way to pay Hargrave than give $12M per year to Edwards.  Even Kyzir White has a market value on that site of $8.5M per season.

No wonder Howie said "we're getting comp picks"

I’m not advocating re-signing Edwards. I’m trying to understand why you would slide Elliss into the lineup at Mike.

The Eagles will spend resources in the draft for the position.  Given Stoutland's ability to assess and develop talent, I am confident they can fill the role.  I like Seumalo but he benefits by playing next to 2 HOF players.  Any decent player will look good in that position and it's not too long ago that Seumalo struggled as a starter.

Did I miss it or has it not been mentioned what he said about Hurts and his contract?

He called for Howie to get it done and if Hurts isn't coming back then he asked to be traded wherever Hurts goes

AJ Brown isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I wouldn't give the comment the time of day because I think everyone knows the Eagles will extend Hurts, sooner than later.  It's how Howie does business.  He knows it wouldn't make any sense to allow Herbert, Burrow, and/or Lamar to sign a deal first.  Hurts' price will only go up with each passing contract.

Now -- if Hurts' reps are insisting on a market-resetting deal, that would be a different scenario.

I wasn't the biggest advocate of keeping Edwards, but looking at the FA linebackers and the draft crop of LBs, I'm not sure the Eagles have a choice. The FA market for LBs is quite bad and it's not a strong LB draft class.

Unless Howie has a trade target or something he could pursue.

Which mean Edwards will cost alot of $$$$

Coming off a good season and a weak free agent pool... I doubt Edwards will be in Howie price range.

There's no doubt in my mind that his agent is asking for a Watson type deal that's fully guaranteed. I also wouldn't be surprised if his agent is asking for $50M

That all depends on a few factors:

-- Do you rate Edwards closer to impact player, or JAG?

-- How much better is Edwards in the defensive scheme than Kyzir White?  Not sure about these 'market values', but taking them at face value, White is $3-4M cheaper per year.  Perhaps White would be the smarter re-sign?

-- Could Tremaine Edmunds be on the market?  His market value is listed as less than Edwards, and IMO is a much better LB.  Even Devin Bush might hit free agency.

Hurts agent would be a fool not to ask for at least 50. I understand that Hurts style of play scare some here bc of risk of injury but that same fear is why Hurts and his agent should try to get every dime they can get now. Hurts style of play, could make this his last opportunity, to maximize his worth.

I think we’re going to sign a cheap LB and hope to get competent play. Ideally Dean is our three-down guy anyway.

Also wouldn't surprise me if she asks for a 10 year contract for Hurts

Not that I want to trade back with Dallas, but I really hope there’s a QB at 10 that a team wants to trade up for. As nice as it is to have a pick that high, I’d love to stock up on more picks. I hope we come up with a way to add at least on fourth-round pick. Looks like a great spot to add a RB.

I see the knuckle-dragging portion of the Eagles fan base has officially targeted AJ Brown as the focus of their bizarre, mouth-frothing ire.  They finally got their man.

I blame AJ.
