It's interesting to think about the potential ramifications of this election on each of the parties going forward. Here are the 3 scenarios as I see it.

1. Trump wins (40%) - any Trump win at this point will be very close. If he can hold on to GA and NV, then he only needs 1 of PA, MI or WI. If he wins, then it is the end of the sane Republican party and the full on transformation into the MAGA party. People like McConnell will follow Romney into retirement, and get ready for Senate Leader Cruz or Scott. The GOP will steer harder into trade protectionism and isolationism, similar to the 1920s. I'd expect all funding for Ukraine to be stopped, as well as a renunciation or equivocation on our support for Taiwanese independence. Democrats will likely, as they are prone to do, completely miss the point and decide the issue was they weren't progressive enough. I'd expect a harder turn left as they decide more government largesse is the way to win back working class white voters. Expect more Bernie type policies to be embraced (Medicare for all, UBI, etc.). Moderate Democrats will be sidelined.

2. Harris narrowly wins (50%) - Harris holds the blue wall of PA, MI and WI, and wins NV too, for a 276 - 262 win. Democrats will largely be unchanged -- they will continue to drift left over time as younger, dumber leaders (e.g., AOC) replace older, more pragmatic folks. The GOP will be interesting - sane Republicans will want to reassert themselves, but in this scenario Trump will have lost by less than he did in 2020. If he's alive, he's the 2028 nominee unfortunately and we just get a repeat in 4 years.

3. Harris blowout (10%) -- Harris wins 319-219 by getting AZ, NV, GA and NC. Democrats move a little more left than they do in scenario 2, but since the Senate likely flips red, they are blocked on key issues. Meanwhile, MAGA is finally repudiated once and for all. Guys like Cruz and Rubio turn on Trump, and people like MTG, Boebert and Tuberville are sidelined. The GOP returns to being a fiscally conservative party focused on limited government.

It's likely this one.

Even if he gets blown out IMO Trump is the 2028 candidate if he's alive.

Those rallies are going to be lit.

If he loses worse than 2020, then I think the GOP may actually look to throw him overboard. If he can't win when ~70% of the country thinks we are on the wrong track, then he's useless as a candidate. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but let me dream. I fully expect it to be extremely close, unfortunately.

Republicans should do one of those where they just keep cycling through Kid Rock, Scott Baio and James Woods

Principled republicans are being overshadowed, there aren't as many as you might think. But even then, the vast majority of them that hate Trump will still either hold their nose and vote for him again because they really hate democrats that much, or at best, they'll stay home or write-in someone else. I know so many people like this and they just can't bring themselves to vote for Harris because politics has apparently become their identity and to them, voting for Harris would like killing off a part of who they are.

I genuinely don't understand how they could sit on the sidelines for this one after seeing what he has done for the last 8 years, but it is what it is at this point. It's going to be an insanely close election, and I wouldn't be shocked if it came down to less than 10k votes in a single state. I sat out 2016 and voted for Johnson, but there's absolutely no way I could do that again knowing that my inaction could mean Trump being reelected. Apparently most of the Never Trump republicans I know don't agree though.

You get guys like my dad who think that a Harris presidency would be bad from a policy standpoint and that if Trump gets elected then at least some of the policies will be good, and he will be gone in four years since he can’t run again.

Im pretty sure that if Trump wins then the GOP is just gonna be MAGA forever.

Oh 100%, I don't know when I'll even be able to vote for them ever again. It's frustrating as F.

I don't see how that happens.  At least 70% of the actual voters in the party are completely in the tank for him til death do us part. He is literally deic to them, He's also got the purse strings of the party and will never, ever give them up. The sooner everybody lets go of this fantasy that the party of Reagan will ever be back the better we'll adjust to what comes next.

It's 100% guarantee.  It's also 100% guarantee that you'll fully support it.

I think they'll try, I just don't think they'll be able to unfortunately.  The one thing we know for sure is that he won't bow out gracefully. He's in it for him. And as crazy as it is the cult-following of "Trump or bust" voters have shown themselves to be a big enough number that he can handicap any other republican candidate right out of the gate.

IMO there will be some hand-waving about "moving on in a new direction" from some of the party higher-ups, Trump will insult them all (along with their families), his supporters will show up en masse to the primaries, and they'll all go back to kissing the ring as soon as the tides start to turn.  They're going to need a MUCH stronger force pushing back on him than Nikki Haley (and let's be honest, a white male) and I just don't see one in the GOP right now.  They're all little Trump cucks.

Hope I'm wrong.  Even if I'm not a conservative the system works best when both parties put together their best candidates.  But unfortunately I don't think I am.

If this were to happen I don't see any scenario where we don't get a 3rd, 4th, or even a 5th term of Trump (if he's alive). I just can't picture a scenario where his term ends and he just goes "Well it's been great, I'm endorsing Vance for president in 2028". He will say his first term doesn't count against the term term limit because reasons. He will be sued. The supreme court will shrug, and he will be on the ballot in 2028. He will lose to Newsome or whatever Dem runs, but it won't matter by then. He will have the power structure in place to throw out ballots, send it back to the legislatures, or whatever else he needs to do to stay in office. Please tell me I am wrong and or crazy.

I'll never vote republican again. Even the "sane ones" were Trump enablers save for Romney, Cheney, and Kinzinger who are all out.

Ok Procus.  Look, you'll be so senile and incontinent by then that the guy that wipes your ass will probably be the one casting your vote, so I guess I can't attest to his political leanings, but regardless, you'd vote for him until he dies if you could, guaranteed.
