Look, you'll be so senile and incontinent by then that the guy that wipes your ass will probably be the one casting your vote, so I guess I can't attest to his political leanings, but regardless, you'd vote for him until he dies if you could, guaranteed.

I just can't picture a scenario where his term ends and he just goes "Well it's been great, I'm endorsing Vance for president in 2028". He will say his first term doesn't count against the term term limit because reasons. He will be sued. The supreme court will shrug, and he will be on the ballot in 2028. He will lose to Newsome or whatever Dem runs, but it won't matter by then. He will have the power structure in place to throw out ballots, send it back to the legislatures, or whatever else he needs to do to stay in office. Please tell me I am wrong and or crazy. The language of the 22nd Amendment isn't ambiguous at all. Roberts won't go along with something like this, and frankly neither will ACB or Kavanaugh. They didn't fold on his election idiocy. https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/amendments/amendment-xxii#:~:text=Section 2-,Section 1,the President more than once. Quote No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Yeah, but what if people said really nasty things about the President during his term? Like probably the nastiest things that have ever been said about any President ever? I think there's a pretty strong legal case to be made that that could trigger the "treated very unfairly" clause of the 22nd.

The 22nd Amendment says "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice." So clearly, if Trump were to win in 2024, then he could not be elected a 3rd time. However, if you want to play semantics, it says "elected" and not "serve." The 12th Amendment states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." But it does not say ineligible to be elected, it says "constitutionally ineligible to the office of President." Well, per Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution, Trump is eligible to serve as President because he is 35, a natural born citizen and has been a resident of the US for 14 years. So crazy town is Trump is someone's running mate, and that person immediately steps down. While such a move would violate the spirit of the 22nd Amendment, it does not violate the strict wording. To bar him, SCOTUS would have to rule that "ineligible to the office of President" includes the prohibition of the 22nd Amendment (like it does the 14th Amendment). But the 14th Amendment says "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State." So it says HOLD, not ELECTED. I'd think SCOTUS would have a hard time barring him based on the drafting.

I saw a tweet recently that described Kristen Welker as the Chuck Todd of Andrea Mitchells and couldn't stop laughing. I don't even know any of them that well, but I was still picking up what the tweet was laying down.

You could put a bag of produce in that chair and it would do a better job.
October 7, 20241 yr For perspective Trump is leading Harris among men by 5 points. He beat Hillary with men by 11. Trump beat Biden by 2 points among men. So yeah it'd be nice to get those 3 points. I'm not sure its the panic button Mitchell claims it is.
