Ahh yes and I remember a certain someone telling me a few weeks ago Colorado was going to the college football playoff.  Can't remember who it was.....🤔

As much as we hate them, Mark Davis, JJ and Micah are all contributors to the NFL and stories about them or reactions by them are 100% relatable to the product on the field. The TS love is just over the top annoying.

I asked a colleague about it yesterday who is a HUGE TS fan and she became so defensive. It was such a strange reaction to a basic question about why people like her so much. You would have thought I shot her dog. Might say more about my colleague but I also think there's a lot of TS fans who just aren't stable.

I also realize  NFL fans can act the same way, just look at the weekly fights we see.

Bottom line, I think it's pathetic to idolize anyone who makes money off of your idolization. That goes for athletes, Hollywood, musicians etc.

As a youth, I grew up as a Grateful Dead fan and a Jimmy Buffett fan.  Both were famous for and made money by maintaining their own marketing instead of letting outsiders make money off of marketing them.  I also watched John Fogarty shut down the most popular band in America at the time, Creedence Clearwater Revival because he hated that thee record label and managers would own his catalog.  Well Taylor Swift, also a talented songwriter maintained control over her catalog and rereleased her albums so she, not the past record company would benefit from her intellectual property.  Pretty damned smart.  I doubt I could name a Taylor Swift song but my adult kids could.

The Kelces have made more marketing money off of this relationship than she has.  That’s fine.  I don’t mind Travis,,Jason or even Mama commercials.  The NFL benefits from increased audiences and may even have some stick. Good for them.

I do find it ironic that it bothers you so in that you complained about the diversity messaging, commercials and even halftime acts.  Can’t get more Wonder Bread York County than Travis and Taylor.  Sure beats "America’s Team” and Tom Brady being shoved at us, doesn’t it?

I'd rather they just stick to the game but the broadcasters love to go on tangents especially when the game is near the end or one team is blowing out the other

If we could just hear a play by play or even just the crowd then I'd be happy

You would love condensed play games on NFL+.  Only time I listen with the sound up for games any more.

Not sure if I'm reading this wrong, if I woke up on the wrong side of the bed or what but it comes off as a rather bold assumption about me and quite frankly pisses me off.

If you look at what bothers me, and it includes the field messaging just as much as it does Taylor Swift....The NFL doesn't know where to stop. They go balls to the wall and it annoys me to know end. I don't like being bombarded with things. I also change the channel the minute I hear the Burger King song if that helps! In the long run, the NFL doesn't give a damn about ANY of these things. They care about one thing and that's their wallet getting bigger.

Yes, I've complained about the diversity messaging on the field and the commercials but I that's because I think it's silly and overdone. I also think it's silly when you go to a Hershey Bears game and I'll use your words, the mostly Wonder Bread crowd yells "Go Bears" during the National Anthem. The same fans who probably say don't kneel and respect the flag, yell and scream during the anthem.

Another thing I've mentioned about the on the field messaging and helmet messages is that from an aesthetic standpoint, it changes how the game has looked. I've said many, many times how much I love the way the sport of football looks. From the uniforms, equipment, logos on the field and everything. I've got books upon books about the pictural history of football the NFL and have mentioned how as a kid I would study the cards, preseason magazines and Eagles Digest to see what gear guys were wearing. Post 2020, the NFL game now looks different as it's no longer just the players in their uniforms but social awareness messaging. You can even go back to when the Breast Cancer Awareness fad started and how the entire NFL stadium was pink. Another money grab for the NFL.

What I've pointed out about the halftime shows is that Jay-Z is now heavily influencing what the NFL does for SB Halftime shows are going to be geared more towards hip hop/R&B. FYI, the Dre, Snoop, Mary J and Eminem halftime show was one of my favorites. That's who I grew up listening to. I also loved Usher so I have no problem with him for 2024.

Maybe, and hopefully you didn't mean anything by that statement and I apologize for the minor rant in response if so.

It seems like quite a bit bothers you. Maybe you need to just pop a gummy tonight,, grab a bag of chips, park your ass on the couch to watch a nature documentary, and chill out a bit.

Yup. Some people just don't "do math" very well when it comes to sports. There are good stats and there are stupid stats. The most ridiculous one I think is average kickoff distance for a kicker. The way the league does it is simple, yet it is also asinine. And anyone who cites it to attempt to make a point about it is obviously oblivious to what's really going on. The league simply measures all kicks that go into the endzone for a touchback as a 65-yard kick. (Assuming it's kicked from the 35 yard line.) So a kickoff that sails out of the back of the endzone (75+ yards in the air) is treated statistically as the same as one that lands at the ten (55 yards in the air) and rolls into the endzone for a touchback. In other words you can kick the ball twenty yards further and it's measured as being the exact same. A kickoff that lands at the ten yard line (again, 55 yards in the air) could be measured as being a longer kick than one that lands at the one (64 yards in the air) if it ends up as a touchback while the other one is returned.

I get the idea from a record keeping perspective. But from an "evaluation" perspective, it's massively misleading. Statistics can be very misleading if you don't know how to interpret them correctly.

So yes, citing "total" yardage in anything when teams have played a dissimilar number games is stupid because it doesn't have any meaning behind it. It may be "true" in the purest sense of the word but it's largely irrelevant.

Figures don't lie, but liars can figure.

Phils in 6... ( I really think 5, but want them to clinch at home, so 6 would make me happier in a sense, but also more worried...)

I don't know, man. You might want to give it a shot at least. If you're off the rails enough where you're starting to claim the breast cancer awareness month is just a big money grab for the NFL, maybe you need to course correct a bit?

I’d like for them to clinch in 5. I’m gonna be at that game.

Nothing off the rails about that statement at all. Yes, the NFL donates some of the proceeds to cancer research, however....

According to data obtained from the NFL by Darren Rovell of ESPN, the NFL "takes a 25% royalty from the wholesale price (1/2 retail), [and] donates 90% of royalty to American Cancer Society.”

In other words, for every $100 in pink merchandise sold, $12.50 goes to the NFL. Of that, $11.25 goes to the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the NFL keeps the rest. The remaining money is then divided up by the company that makes the merchandise (37.5%) and the company that sells the merchandise (50.0%), which is often the NFL and the individual teams.

Then consider that only 71.2% of money the ACS receives goes towards research and cancer programs. After everyone has taken their cut, only 8.01% of money spent on pink NFL merchandise is actually going towards cancer research.
